I have used Tim on and off for at least 12 years. I have the good fortune of having a mechanic for a son-in-law so I only need a shop occasionally. Tim has always been timely, honest and prices are reasonable, he doesn't look for things to find wrong and often will suggest alternatives to save money. I've had to pop in twice in the last month - fully prepared to leave my car because I didn't need it -- instead he said, let me run the diagnostic or check it real quick to see what we are dealing with - both times it was a big issue that couldn't be solved that day. The latest issue is stolen catalytic converters -- which he immediately suggested I file a police report and insurance claim. Honestly it never would have occurred to me. So thankful he suggested it as it is going to be an expensive repair. I am thankful to have some I trust so close by and one last note -- whenever I do get advice or quote from Tim I always run it by my SIL and he's always in agreement. That's a positive sign in my book. I saw a negative and somewhat negative review below - I can't speak to their experiences but what I can say is I have never had similar experiences. read more

So happy with my experience at this car shop! I took my car in to have it serviced for an oil change, new fuel and air filter, new spark plugs and a new battery change as my battery recently lost its ability to hold its charge. Left the shop and my car ran just fine for a couple of days. Fast forward two days. Drove my car to Costco and parked the car for all of five minutes. When I tried to start the car it was the same problem again. The battery didn't have enough juice to start from my small battery I carry in case I need a jumpstart so the guys from the tire shop got me started and I took the car back to Tim. He asked me some questions and I was thinking I might need a new alternator. Tim looked at the car for five minutes and then discovered the problem. Squirrels were storing their acorns in my car and also chewing on the wires from the battery to the alternator! He said the problem usually occurs when you have a rainy season during fall/winter. What could have been a very expensive fix turned into a five minute job. Tim didn't even charge me for the diagnostic. Great diagnostician and service! DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. My boyfriend took his car here about 8-10 months ago to get some things fixed in order to pass inspection. After he picked up his car it started making a thunking noise near the right front wheel. I kept telling him to take it back, but he waited about a month before returning. Turns out some thingamajig was bent, which put pressure on the doodad, which cause the wheel bearing thingy to go bad and need to be replaced - and they charged us $600 to fix it... Fast forward to this past week, he decides to drop his car off for an oil change and asked them to take a look and see what it would cost to fix his A/C. They called him mid-day and said that if he even wanted them to put freon in the car and look further it would cost $180. He told them to go ahead and do it just to find out it would take another $1500 to fix?! No thanks. So we basically paid $220 for an oil change. We went and picked it up that night and lo and behold, now the heat and the defroster don't work either. He called them the next morning and the guy got pissed off and told him that the blower was broken to begin with. Now, I guess it's possible that between sometime last week when he used the defroster and Tuesday the blower broke on its own accord. But that's too much of a coincidence for me. Another reviewer mentioned that they've had issues come up after getting work done here. For a second opinion, and because they'll work with my extended warranty insurance, I took my car to Headlights to Tailpipes on Lakeside where they found NOTHING wrong with my car. NOTHING. Tim and his crew were pleasant and thorough - took my car out for several test drives, with and without the parts McGeorge Toyota said were in need of repair. All they were able to find is that my spare tire cover moves around a bit. That's it! My father is a mechanic, so I know a good one when I see it. I was referred to Headlights to Tailpipes randomly today after panicking when my car failed inspection at Midas. Midas told me I needed a new power steering rack and that it would cost $1700. I desperately posted on FB asking for recommendations for an auto repair shop that was more reasonably priced. A friend told me about H to T and in 15 minutes I was there getting my car checked out. Not only did I NOT need a new power steering rack, but my '07 Toyota Highlander passed inspection with flying colors. Went to have a muffler replaced, instead I as told I don't need the muffler but desperately needed brakes. I was charged $215.00 just for front end brakes on my 2003 Alero, to make matters worse the new front brakes squeal so horribly when I apply any amount of pressure. It's embarrassing. I took the car back and told them that if I paid that much just for front brakes they should not make a sound. Naturally I got the "oh it's natural" story and some line about it should stop in "500 miles or so". I was livid, then just for kicks I asked for a quote on headlights. I received a call back from the young lady at the front quoting a firm $500 for 2 headlights. Because I felt in my gut I had been clearly taken advantaged of I went to two other reputable shops in the area. Firestone confirmed what I felt to be true, I was clearly ripped off. The normal rate for front brakes and back would have been $144.00. Another shop quoted me a price of $112.00 front and back. I priced headlights at Bruce car parts for $80.00 each and I was informed that I would only need one, not two head lights. It p's me off when I think about it because I did not get what I initially needed for my car, secondly I was overcharged for something that made my car worse and most importantly I was clearly taken advantaged of because I'm a female, and I was not given an opportunity to discuss, review or compare what this shop was going to do. Women beware of this place unless you are absolutely certain you are getting the best deal, quality and service. read more

Went here a couple times but think I will try elsewhere since this was the first time my inspection cost over 300. I don't really think wiper blades should be written up unless they are broken or missing parts. Having older cars can be a savings but one has to be reasonable when replacing items if they are not absolutely necessary. read more

I just don't like this place anymore. I think they know what they are doing but the owner doesn't explain anything and he jacks the prices up really high. I think they are just dishonest and don't care. I came in to check out a leak and they made the car leak coolant like crazy when I specifically asked them if testing it would spring a major leak. I left with my young daughter, who I had with me, saying I needed to think about it. BUT I HAD NO IDEA THE CAR WAS GUSHING ENGINE COOLANT BECAUSE THEY SAID NOTHING. Later, he admitted a pressure test could just do that. Obviously, they knew that leak had increased, they didn't sound surprised, but they couldn't care less that my daughter and I could have been stranded somewhere on the side of the highway when the coolant ran out and the engine overheated. He was furious when I called him on it even though I was really polite. I won't go back and there is no way the quote for this was right. $500 to fix? A tube? I don't think so. Never again. Now, I have to tow it to another mechanic and we are stranded for about a week. read more
