My previous review of this butcher of Midlothian mechanics was out and out fact. His business literally created my 1966 Corvair to catch fire after leaving his business after only traveling less than 3 miles. My car spent weeks under his terrible care before calling me to say it was ready for pickup. If I didn't have fire extinguishers with me the car would have been a complete loss. I never even got an apology from this ass hole. He should close this crap hole of a repair shop before someone is killed for his incapable workmanship. read more

I would not recommend. If you read back in reviews about sketchy and like they used to be in honesty it is spot on! Had oil changes and the plug each time had to be replaced after coming back from them, they stand around between jobs, and friends of Stuart Rolfe come first. Go elsewhere read more

We have been bringing our vehicles to Stuart Rolfe for several years now. Two things consistently stand out. First, is the level of service. When I can't fix the problem this is where I go. The folks at Stuart Rolfe are consistently reliable in correctly diagnosing and repairing the problem. If there is ever a problem after repair, they stand by their work. Second, honesty. This has become a very rare commodity in our society. Stuart and his staff have very rightly earned my trust and respect. When your family's safety is at stake, it is critical to have people you can count on to give you honest answers and fix your car right. Some shops take a shotgun approach and replace parts until the problem is fixed. This has not been my experience at Stuart Rolfe. There is a lot of value in paying only for the parts and labor needed to correct the problem. This is the shop I recommend to my friends and family. read more

This review is long overdue. The owner, Stuart, has taken great care of me and my family's cars for 25 years. He's very honest. Many times he's told us that some part we thought needed replacing was actually good for awhile longer, saving us money. So when he says something does need to be repaired or replaced, it does. Customer service is paramount. Just left the shop this morning after waiting for 15 minutes a the front desk with no one else in line. The man behind the counter was on the phone but did look up when I walked in. After talking on the phone, he hung up, made another phone call, hung up and walked through the door to the work area for a few minutes, came back out, started shuffling some paper work and took another phone call. At no time did he greet me or offer service. I'd seen enough. Your reputation is relies on every customer you encounter. They won't be getting my business. read more

I have had to use Stuart Rolfes services twice now and both times I have been more than pleased. The first time was to replace a rear tail light assembly on my 02 Jeep grand Cherokee and this time was to replace the bearings in my rear diff. I didn't actually take the car myself this time but the people at Carmax took the vehicle to them. They were able to get the repairs done cheaper and faster than anywhere else that has quoted me on this repair. The first visit that I made to them for the rear tail light assembly was excellent. I should have turned around when I walked in and the gentlemen behind the counter didn't feel the need to interrupt their conversation to address me. But, in case you're considering this shop, here's an account of my experience. The fellow who helped me (Vince, I believe), and I use the word very loosely, should not be a customer-facing employee anywhere. He might be the least approachable person I've encountered in my entire life. I dropped off my car at 11 am for an inspection and oil change and asked for a call when everything was done. I didn't hear anything all day so I decided to stop in at 5:20 (10 minutes before close) and see if there was an issue. I walked in and asked if the car was done and, after Vince made a few impudent remarks, he said it was. He offered no explanation for why no one had called and simply said, "Well, no one has done the paperwork yet." As for the bill, I can't say much about it except that the same oil and filter I buy retail comes with a startling markup here. And I would have paid it gladly instead of begrudgingly had I received an ounce of reasonable customer service. read more

Used to be excellent, but has recently gone downhill. They are no longer thorough, trustworthy or apologetic when in the wrong. My car is still not fixed after having been left with them 3 times in the span of 2 weeks! Very disappointed! Sketchy!!!! I came here on the suggestion of a friend. Thought I was getting good, reliable, honest assistance however, I found out they were overcharging me and suggesting work that did not need to be done. However, at Stuart Rolfe that was not the case. I was treated with respect and given an amazing deal. They had my car up in running in 40 mins . flat. I drop the car off the night before, they fix it that day and I pick it up the afternoon, less than 24 hours after I dropped it off. Problems always fixed. I have been a customer of Stuart Rolfe for about 5 to 6 years now. I found them on Angie's List and when I first started going there I really liked them. I have taken my car and 3 of my children's cars there for various maintenance and repair. The last couple of times I've gone there have been terrible. They are the most un-personable people with no responsiveness at all. I have to call them over and over to get any answers and their prices have gotten completely outrageous. The last time I was in I asked them to check on an engine light that was coming on. I even gave them the code. They charged me $189.00 to check out the car when I did not want to spend $1800 for the repair. I would absolutely never recommend them to anyone! read more

Our family has been going to Stuart Rolfe for the last ten years. They have serviced six of our family cars and have always gone above and beyond what we expected. I have countless stories where they have helped us or found help for us at a fraction of the cost of other places. We finally stopped going anywhere else, even in an emergency so we could take our vehicle to SR. About a year ago, our van had an issue and they suggested a very expensive fix. We asked about other options, how sure they were that this would fix the problem etc. We forked over the money and had the same problem. Not only did the problem still exist but they hadn't checked it out to even see if their solution worked. Then they suggested another much cheaper fix after we had already paid them hundreds of dollars for nothing! We took our vehicle elsewhere. The other shop immediately suggested the cheaper fix by researching the issue before we came in and they did the leg work to make sure it worked properly and it was WAY cheaper and serviced right the first time. Since our long history with SR, we tried again today with a different vehicle when we heard a rocking noise in the engine. They called me and said that they would not know what was causing the problem until they got in and opened up the engine. They believed it could be one of three things. Then he gave me the total for fixing all three. I asked if it wouldn't work to go in and find the problem and fix the one thing causing the problem especially because I knew the timing belt had just been replaced. He told me no, that they couldn't guarantee the fix unless we did all three. Sadly, I know from past experience that they do not guarantee the work at all. I was disheartened because I knew that I would never bring another vehicle back. So many years of trust and good communication just to have two bad experiences back to back. I will not waste my time with them anymore. I miss the old Stuart Rolfe that seemed to communicate well and find answers instead of throwing out numbers without reasonable explanations. :( read more

My battery died and had visible signs of corrosion around the terminal. Advance/AutoZone type places wouldn't do a battery installation for my particular make & model year, so I used Stuart Rolfe. It was a little more than I expected ($172 for the battery & installation), but they were fast and professional. They also checked the alternator and electrical system.
