Just wanted to thank the people at Williams Auto for doing a great job on my vehicle and let the community at large know that these guys are dependable and reliable.
I started taking my car there for minor maintenance when I began working down the street from them, oil changes, tire repair/replacement, etc., you know how it is....always wary about taking your car somewhere for the first time. Anyway, at first I thought my fears had been realized when I came back to pick my car up later that day and they explained to me that they had found several problems while they had my car in the shop that they felt I should address either now, or in the near future.
My first thoughts were, uh-oh I've taken my car here and now they're trying to sell me a whole bunch of stuff..sheesh who do they think I am!? Right?! Some of the stuff they told me about was that my transmission fluid was discolored, my tires tread(sp?) was getting low so they recommended a rotate, and my air filter was dirty. To me it just seemed like they were trying to find something wrong with my car. Needless to say I didn't address any of the issues they warned me about.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. A month or two later my boyfriend took my car on a road trip and when he got back he asked me whether I had noticed anything odd about my transmissions performance lately. I said no, why? He said the car had begun to pause and jerk between shifts when he was on his way back. He had stopped on the way back home at a shop along the way to have someone look it over and they ended up telling him that the transmission fluid was in terrible shape and that they recommended changing it, commenting that it should have been changed some time before in order to prevent possible damage to the transmission.
Later on, after I mentioned to him that I had, in fact, been previously informed of the transmission fluids condition by Williams Auto he shook his head and explained to me-as he has some experience in the automotive industry-that looking a car over and giving the customer recommendations is standard fare for shops. He said yes, the shop is in the business of looking your car over and inspecting it for any OBVIOUS signs of wear and tear and advising me(the customer) that certain things are nearing the end of their useful life, such as fluids, tires, brakes, belts, lights, etc.
He explained it's a symbiotic relationship when you really think about it. The benefits go both ways.
Since that incident I have continued to take my vehicle there faithfully and have found what my now ex-boyfriend said to be true. As I take my car in for minor maintenance and they give me their recommendations (sometimes none, yay!) they act as a kind of monitor, keeping an eye on the condition of my car, giving me the ability to catch most, but not all, problems before they occur. Obviously if they did not go above and beyond and look my car over(and they happen to be particularly thorough ie. good mechanics back there) I would be forced to pay for these services elsewhere!
Just goes to show, first impressions aren't always right. Thanks again Williams Auto!
