The worst front desk customer service. I was in the waiting area where the front desk receptionist came in , proceeded to pass me to turn on the radio with no hello. She then went to the back area and chatted with someone for a bit. Once at the front desk, she specifically asked me, "What is it that I want" I told her of my 8am appointment that she gave me the day prior. Proceeded to argue with me that it was for 9am. Even if it was my mistake, how about leading with, "My apologies for the miscommunication, are you able to come back in an hour?" And a smile goes a long way. I have to change my review of Gerber, I went in today for an estimate on painting a part of my fender... And they didn't even want to look at it. Basically they said there is a paint shortage and are only doing the cars they were already working on. When pressed they said they are still taking new customers, just not me, unless my car was in an accident. So do they only paint cars in accidents? I'm disappointed they had zero interest in giving me an estimate and suggested I consider going somewhere else to have the part I wanted wrapped. Apparently they have too much business and judging by the way their receptionist talked to me I was an inconvenience and not worth their time or consideration. read more

Drove into this location, and asked the front desk to get an estimate on fixing my windshield. They said they couldn't give me an estimate until 2 days later. I said "an estimate cannot be given for two days?" She said Yes, would you like to make an appointment? I was like no thanks, I will have it fixed before those two days, and I did. Lost business, I guess they are too busy. If I owned the place, I would be out of my mind. 10 minutes of work and possible customer... gone forever. Once again I want to say that the service at this particular Gerber location on Northwest Highway in Norwood Park Chicago from manager Tom and his team is superb. I had a door issue (I wanted my mini van electric door deactivated) and they took care of it within a day and refused to charge me anything for it saying "you are a good customer and you know where we are if you ever need us". They even made sure to reactivate the code that works the radio, GPS and other electrical parts so that my Honda van was "good to go" the minute I picked it up. Epic work... if i had three thumbs up i would give it that or 6 stars!!! There are a few times in my life I could say that I had a spectacular experience when dealing with repair jobs and this is one of them. I am mind blown from the minute I walked into the place from the front desk, Angie, whom was super helpful and guided me through the whole process and always kept me up to date. The work exceeded my expectations and the staff was incredible all the way up the GM Alekael and Tom who went out of their way to make ensure I was in good hands. They handled everything with such professionalism as well as making sure my car was in good hands and repaired and made suggestions along the way to make sure the car was given back to me in better condition that I was completely satisfied with. Took my car here after an accident since it's in the repair shop network for my insurance . The initial contact was great ...when my car got to Gerber i went in and spoke with the adjuster and he gave me a step by step on what work they would do . He said he would follow up by a certain day and that's when things went south . Over the next two weeks, I was constantly having to follow up myself , being promised a call back by a certain time and never hearing back . Unfortunately, my car was beyond repair so I cannot comment on their work. But their communication was horrendous and based on that I would not return or recommend Gerber . read more

Can I give zero stars? I wish I could ... I filled out an online form to have two rock chips repaired; this form was completed on 3/3. I received a call from Gerber on 3/4 to setup the appointment. The customer service representative assisting me was nice enough but her only goal was to make the booking and not answer any questions. For example, despite the online form requiring me to submit two preferred times (3/8 either at 9-9:30 or 9:30-10 am) I was told my appointment window was 9 am through 3 pm. After suggesting that a six hour window was somewhat unreasonable I was told someone would be at my house between 9 am and 12 pm; a confirmation call would be placed on the morning of the appointment. I was then told not to bring my car directly to the location but that someone would come out to my residence. Great, sounds convenient. Received a confirmation call on 3/7 with the three hour window still intact. Today, 3/8, I received a call from the technician at 10 am who informed me that his morning was booked solid and he would not be arriving until some time between 3 and 5 pm. I'm sure you can imagine how wasteful this has been to my morning and the arrangements I made to be here for the agreed upon service window. I am also very disappointed with the incredible disconnect that seems to exist simply have the repair performed. read more

My experience isn't over yet, but so far has been abysmal due to a lack of communication from Gerber. I was rear ended on Thanksgiving (11/22). Dropped the car on 11/24 for an estimate and authorized whatever work it needed since Gerber is a guaranteed repair shop through my insurance. I was promised an estimate and a timeframe within 48 business hours. 72 business hours later I called for an update (11/28). They estimated two weeks from that point. 13 days later (12/11) I got a text saying the estimated completion date would be the afternoon of 12/17, and they would call if there were any delays. On the afternoon of 12/17, I called to verify it was ready and was told "No, I don't see your car ready yet." Ok, any idea when it'll be ready? "Oh, they only update that information on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have no idea." Wow! So now I have to call my insurance agent to chase them down. He finally gets the whole story: the car was more damaged than they originally thought, they needed different parts, the wrong parts were sent, and now finally the right parts are on the way and my car will (hopefully) be ready Friday 12/21, a mere four weeks after dropping it off. I think I'm a pretty patient person and I understand that it may take time (maybe even a whole month!) to repair the car properly. The problem I have in this situation is that I had to call them EVERY TIME I wanted an update, and to get the whole story, I had to sic my insurance agent on them. That's not acceptable. Keep your customers posted on progress, especially when estimated deadlines are not going to be met - I should not have to chase down updates from you after those deadlines have passed. Communicating delays and/or bad news is infinitely better than not communicating at all. read more

My last review of this place was a little less than 4 years ago. I'm placing yet another bad review due to the horrendous job this repair shop did to my car, costing me hundreds of dollars down the line. Lets start with what I have currently found to date: Front end of vehicle is not square- causing excessive wear to other metal and plastic parts; this in-turn caused my hood to open up on the highway and destroy the hood, windshield, pillars, and other parts. Moving on, the exhaust that was badly damaged from the original repair at this facility should have been replaced, instead only the tailpipe was straightened out, and two years later upon a better inspection, the entire muffler was crushed like a tin-can. (Other one wasn't damaged) I believe this could have been a factor in why I suffered engine failure down the line, seeing how a turbo car requires precise air-flow coming out of the exhaust. Next up, are the trunk liners (plastic pieces that cover all the metal in the trunk, that is also covered in a fabric-like material) When my rear-end was being repaired, the person, or people working on them, did such a bad job, that they plugged the holes some of the clips go into, and now it looks like a trunk from a car at the junkyard, with pieces sticking out at odd angles. A more recent inspection showed that the metal clips that hold the bumper, were never replaced from original repair, which? You guessed it, the bumper managed to get loose, and become obliterated by a truck while driving on the highway. (Bent metal clips remained on vehicle, which were not attached to bumper) Last but not least, which is absolutely a joke: behind the bumper, on each side, are these little louvers with rubbery flaps. They are designed in a way that when you shut the doors in your car, the rear window doesn't shatter due to the uneven pressure. Four years later, FOUR years. I found that one side had been installed upside down!!! This means for the past four years, I've been driving with the vent stuck wide open (as it functions via gravity to close itself after doors have been shut), meaning I now have rust inside of my trunk. All in all, bang-up job. Took over $6,000 if my memory serves me right. Didn't even do a half-assed job. I'm beyond words at this point. The best I could do is to let others know what this place has done to my vehicle, and hope somebody takes my advice with a grain of salt, and goes anywhere but here. read more

Such a shame that one employee can turn what would've been a 5 star review into a one star review. I hesitated about even posting this but figured it was necessary to help others out in the future. My vehicle was taken there because it was close and in my insurance network. I used them years before and didn't have an issue. My issue this time was not with their work (which was great!) but with their employees stealing from my car. We know to remove all valuables like loose change anytime your car goes in for repairs but this was different. Someone at this shop removed and stole my license plate holders! These were custom made Marine Corps plate holders. I had them made to remember my fellow Marines that died in Fallujah. The work to my car was the front passenger tire/fender. Why did they feel the need to remove the front and REAR plate holder?? When questioned, all they could do was come up with a lame excuse that they thought it was garbage and luckily for me, they hold onto garbage for a bit so I was able to get it back. Lucky for me? No, I was on my way to make a police report for theft when they returned them to me. I don't know if the thief working here is just anti-American or never seen plate holders like this and decided to steal them. Thieves can work anywhere, but there is for sure a blatant one working there. You have been warned! S/F read more

This was my first accident and I can genuinely say Gerber made it as pleasant of an experience as possible! They not only did a wonderful job repairing the damages from the accident, but did a couple of minor courtesy touch ups too! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and seemed very organized. I had a broken piece of furniture in my back seat that I've been meaning to fix, and they even called me and asked if I wanted them to glue it back together for me-I couldn't believe it! My 1995 BMW 325i was recently repaired at this location. Gerber was recommend by my Insurance and it was close to my home. In the past for any collision repairs I would always take my car to Knauz Collision in Lake Bluff. They only reason I didn't do it for this incident was Knauz is just to far from my work and I'm to busy to drive all the way there. After this I think I will make the 40 mile drive there. The first time I went there to get the estimate I felt I wasn't really listened too. I auto-crossed on the weekends with my BMW and it never left a garage except to race. I don't race anymore and the car is my daily car now so I know every dent this car has. I told the estimator all the dents in the front ( the hood, side panels, front bumper and windshield) needed to get repaired. I saw him circle on a sheet the major damages that were on the car and I reminded him all the little pin point dents on the hood need to get fixed. He said yeah we'll take car of the whole hood. I drop the car off for repairs and pick it up a couple days later which I thought was quick. I pick up the car in the morning before work, I was running late to work so I really didn't really look at the car that well. But the hood looked funny, it looked hazy but the estimator told me the paint needs 30 days to settle. But I still wasn't really persuaded but I needed to get to work. The day after I really looked at the car the paint job felt grainy and it still looked hazy. And I saw about three small dents (2 on the hood and 1 on the front side panel) Dents that should've been repaired, I called Gerber they apologized and told me to come in and they would get the dents out. I said sure but I was little upset. Meanwhile it rains and the windshield they had replaced drys with a spotty film that doesn't come off I tried windex and it did nothing. I just got very upset called my insurance complained to them. I ended up taking my car to Knauz Collision to get it repaired the second time. When Knauz saw my car they just laughed and said they gave you the car like this, because it looks horrible. To make a long story short my insurance wanted me to give Gerber a second chance to repair the damages that should've been fixed, so I gave them a second chance, and to apologize Gerber agreed to fix 3 rust spots that were starting to develop on my car. I picked up my car from the repairs I started to drive home and my rear view mirror is just flopping around so I called Gerber they apologized for the mirror and told me to bring it back in. Which I told them I would on my day off . I thoroughly inspected the car when I got home noticed a dent ( the same dent thats have been there from the beginning on the side panel) The car looked like it was hastily washed and waxed, there was wax residue everywhere. I could do a better job waxing my car. This is work that was supposed to make me happy. NOT HAPPY with Gerber. Anyway I drop the car off again, the mirror gets fixed and so does the dent. I've had the car for a day and then I noticed the paint where the rust was fixed is coming off and the rust is showing. It's only been 1 DAY I was expecting maybe a year or two and the rust would re-appear, nope 1 DAY. !!! I am absolutely unhappy with the work done to my car, they did a very sloppy job and I regret giving them a second chance. read more

I am extremely happy with this business. My truck was involved in an accident. The other person and I both brought our cars to Gerber on Northwest highway in Norwood Park. Hers was done in three days with beautiful results and she is very happy. My truck had quite a bit more work but Tom and Dave made sure that the whole back of the truck looked fantastic and was done asap. Since I didn't have rental car on my insurance they worked extra fast to get the crew to get it done promptly. I even think they repaired some stuff that was damaged before the accident. So if you call there to get an estimate you will probably talk to Angela on the phone. A real sweetheart and very professional. I am extremely happy with Gerber's service. A couple weeks ago I got into a moderately bad accident in Glenview and we had my car towed to this Gerber. The mechanic who gave us an estimate on repairing our car -- Maurice -- was WONDERFUL. He gave us an honest estimate, and when it looked like the car was totaled, he recommended we sell it on Craigslist. He even offered to keep the car at the shop at no cost for several days after he'd given us the estimate. We ended up finding a buyer for it (which we never expected) and two days later the guy buying it met us at the shop. When it looked like the buyer might back out, on the sale Marice said "you'd be crazy not to buy this car for that price" and talked him back into buying it. *whew* Anyway, Marice was the best, and we'll look him up again in he future. He also mentioned though that he usually works at the Glenview shop, but that's outside of Chicago so I couldn't put the review there. THANKS MAURICE!!! read more

Scheduled appointment was from 800-1200 on a Monday and at 230pm, we're still sitting there waiting for the driver that "cant be reached on the phone." After multiple calls to random CS reps there, i finally spoke with a manager who had every excuse in the book. Technician finally showed up at 5pm and didn't really offer an apology. Wasted an entire day waiting for this company. Never again will i call Gerber. All this could have been avoided with a simple courtesy call to us... THE CUSTOMER. read more

This Gerber location has repaired my car twice along with my mother's car once. They are always very friendly and very accommodating. They won't give you the run around and are honest in prices. Being a single female it is a bit worrisome to get any kind of car repair but they offer a fair price and wonderful customer service.
