That is pretty unethical business practice to try and sell a windshield when only a chip repair was required & requested.

I called around town to 8 different places to fix a small broken window on my car. 7 of these places called or emailed back prices of less than $100 installed. Glass America sent a quote of almost $600. I emailed back making sure they weren't confused about which window I needed fixed. They weren't. I spoke with an employee on the phone. When I asked why it was so much more than the other quotes she said in a very bored voice "Sir, we just type it in the computer and this is the price it told us. We don't just MAKE UP the prices." Now unless this window was made by Stuben or installed by a gaggle of bikini clad glass-installers-gone-wild", I think perhaps this price is 'way over the top ridiculous'. THIS is what's wrong with our healthcare system, by the way. Predatory business practices based on insurance claims. Glass America assumes this will be handled by an insurance company who is not as hands on due to the volume of claims they process daily so they'll just pay it. If there is a human involved and/or awake at the insurance company, they will contest the estimate and Glass America will only charge them $300... Glass America still wins... the insurance company wins because they talked them down by half... everyone wins except for the insured car owner whose rates go up due to filing the claim. Boo. UPDATE: Justin from Glass America sent a reply (click the link to read it) which prompted my following response: Justin, Though I appreciate your attempt at an apology, you really do not need to apologize to me. I will never do business with you. What you should do is SHOW future would-be customers that you really do have competitive prices and are willing to compete for their business. Talk is cheap. Of the 8 places I contacted, only yours involved more than one email or phone chat (yours involved three emails and two phone calls). At any point your company could have stepped up and worked for my business but instead you stuck to your ridiculously inflated price (600% larger than the next highest price I found, by the way) and your employee turned up her nose at the very thought of it. My guess is you do 99% of your business with insurance companies who don't scoff at your inflated prices because it is not their money they are spending. You and businesses like you are why my insurance rates are high. You and businesses like you are part of the problem. My only leverage in the market place against such business practices is to NOT do business with you and warn others about your practices. Buyer beware. -Mark

She then went to the back area and chatted with someone for a bit. Once at the front desk, she specifically asked me, "What is it that I want" I told her of my 8am appointment that she gave me the day prior. Proceeded to argue with me that it was for 9am. Even if it was my mistake, how about leading with, "My apologies for the miscommunication, are you able to come back in an hour?" And a smile goes a long way. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

From the time you walk in the door to the time you get your keys back and drive away, this team sets an example for businesses everywhere. They utilize their texting function to keep you updated on progress along with an occasional phone call. You're never in the dark. They help with facilitating a rental and take care of things. The explanation of work done is clear and concise. The billing is easy to understand. They walk you through each step. These guys are incredibly professional and if you ever need repairs, their is only one place I'd recommend. It's a hassle getting into a fender bender but if you are in one, Gerber is your place.
