WARNING*** Do not go here for any kind of radio installation. I had a sound system put in for $2600.00. (Receipt attached). I began to wonder why I had to buy a cord that went to my phone from the new radio. After I bought it online, the screen changed. I could now see my GPS. And no, they didn't provide one. I went back and the brothers said that it was what I bought. Later I drove to Ontario and had problems with my speaker cutting on and off. I found a business that informed me that the wires to the amp were bad. The placement of the amp was also bad. I took it to a business here in Chicago, the owner said he would need to change the amp wires, get a screen that doesn't need a wire to connect to my phone, and fix my two phone jacks that Auto Sound Barrier, Inc said was okay, but they still don't work. The system, I was told, was not set to "run" with the radio starting up either, so the subwoofer pops when the Jeep is turned on. BEST AUTO SHOP IN CHICAGO! ABT electronics almost had me paying $500 for non-sense even though I had told them the problem. I had asked them to check the amplifier to my car radio but they told me it was my radio that was the issue and that I needed to buy a new radio THROUGH them even though they didn't check which one wasn't working (Their hourly labor fee is $80 and their radios are VERY expensive). I looked on google and came across Auto Sound Barrier. I walked in and they took care of me immediately. I told them the issue and they checked both the radio and the amplifier. I ended up being right, they told me the Amplifier was faulty and they replaced it. My radio was working again and I didn't have to waste money on a new one. They saved me HUNDREDS of dollars. Great service, The shop may look small but the service is top notch. Owner and tech were able to walk me through an alarm and remote start install and had no problem modifying things to how I wanted. They also had no problem doing the work in front of me and showing me what they were doing. Speedy install. Viper alarm took about 3 hours total with a walk in no appointment. 2 hours labor, one hour of prep and wait. This one star given is really a star that has burned out. So really, I'm not giving this shoddy, shady, unscrupulous business any stars. After not getting any traction from ASB, I took my car to ABT. I explained what was going on and these guys immediately drilled down to the problem. Told me the issue was the speakers, as I had suspected. ABT, in fact, told me what to do in case I ran into the same problem again so that I wouldn't have to shell out further money. That's customer service; that's connecting with your customer; that's understanding the dynamic of doing business to get repeat business and referrals. Family business or not, a refusal to acknowledge any of these key components of legitimizing your business as a business that cares about the value of your work and how that reflects on your clients, is an unfortunate experience that customers, like me, have to just chalk up to as, "a really bad experience." Took ABT less than half an hour to fix the problem. Cost: $50.00. As stated before in the other thread, the work done by ASB was incompetently done because that whole family is incompetent, greedy, immoral and incorrigible. on March 2, 2022, i brought a car stereo from this place and i also paid for them to install the the system. Exactly a month ago, my system shut down completely. I call to tell them and they said bring the car in so they can check the system out. Yesterday, i came to the shop and when i tell you they are disrespectful and don't care about the customer. Just trying to make a buck. It was and experience, i had and argument with the owner and his two sons because i wouldn't play extra money for a system that went out within 6 months. I find it unbelievable that a "professional" company would install such a costly product with such pour workmanship. I payed $600 up front and they had my car from 9am day one until 530 day 2. When I returned to pick up the they gave me back 100 bucks because the didn't have time to install the remote locking part of the alarm. Ive dealt with these people twice. First time I went in to have a stereo I purchased at Best Buy installed, while I was waiting my turn to speak to the horrible, angry receptionist 2 other customers were arguing with the owner (who happened to be chain-smoking at his desk) about bad car alarm installations. The one guy appeared to want to punch the owner as his leg was shaky ... lol. Anyway, I figured it couldnt be that bad. Installing a stereo is a piece of cake and hard to screw up. I think they charged me like $100 bucks and they did a decent job. The floor of the car was left with black tape, clippings and leftover wires but.... whatever. My second run-in was much more brief. I bought speakers for the car and wanted them installed as well, I called around to 5-6 places including most of which are already rated on here (Solomons, Armandos Sound, etc). and they ALL gave me quotes over the phone as well as estimated time for the project. The receptionist here, honestly, is one of the most horrific human beings Ive ever had the displeasure of meeting. She answered angry to begin with, followed up with rushing me through my questions and simply said "cannot give you a quote over the phone, bring the car in". I said "but everyone else did, how come you guys...." "NO NO NO NO, we cannot" Seriously, she just cut me off and I ended up hanging up and going with someone else. I should add, although this is "hearsay", that my brother had his stereo installed there as well and mentioned there were others in there complaining once again (he went with me the first time I took my car in). Auto Sound Barrier is a small establishment located in the heart of Lincoln Square. They have a big selection of both stereos and speakers as well as alarm systems. I blew out a speaker on one of my doors and was beginning the process of getting estimates to have the work done by these folks. They quickly looked at the car, made an assessment of what I would need based on what they saw existing in the car. Gave me a prices....a lower end set of speakers, then pricing on a high end and told me the difference. No nonsense talk. Pricing included installation which they indicated the maximum time it would take and when they could do the work. The biggest thing I want to mention here is when they were finished they indicated that based on what I had speaker-wise in my car already, I could purchase similar speakers and do the work myself if I felt comfortable with such installations................I find this type of business the best because they are servicing customers, not looking to make a buck. I'm still getting estimates, but I can tell you if you need good work done at a fair price by folks that are not looking to rip you off please shop at their store! LOCATION NOTE: They are located on the east side of Western, so it is best to come up Western from the south and just turn into the parking lot....FYI a hot dog stand shares the parking space and hides the building from that directions, so just remember to not drive past the Foster Ave intersection. read more

This small family-owned shop has been around this neighborhood longer than I have. I heard about 20 years. Look, the auto-stereo-alarm installation businesses are not ivory towers nor are they non-profit organizations. But seriously, you already know that, right? I can't say that I look forward to going to get work done on my car, regardless of if it is the stereo, the paint job, the tires, the A/C, or even a freakin' oil change. HOWEVER: Just like when I found Speedline, a great car mechanic shop near Foster and Damen (see my Yelp about them), I must admit that I feel a lot better about getting my car to someone I can trust. And Auto Sound Barrier is a place I do trust. Even after I was already using them occasionally, I was specifically referred to them by an acquaintance who knows car stereos. Yeah, the owner may be a little gruff. And the employees who do the installations are not starched white-collar guys who commute from Barrington or Kenilworth. But let's get down to what is really important here: 1. Honesty. These people have been in business a long time for really only one reason: they stand behind their work. If you bought the equipment from them and had them install it, they will bend over backwards to get things done right, corrected, etc. I have seen it. A guy even drove there after the car alarm manufacturer sent him to ASB with an older model of alarm that went bad and was under warranty. The techs jumped on the problem immediately. 2. Price. Sure, the owner is a wheeler-dealer but he is also pretty knowledgeable about what you can get, at his place and elsewhere. Don't think because he has an accent that he is some dummy. He's got some good products that you can find elsewhere and also some crazy weird stuff for people who like that stuff. If you're an informed customer, you can get a very good deal. It's a local business and they exist even with the big box stores for a reason. 3. Location. There are neighborhood shops where you benefit from shopping if it's your neighborhood. These people have long memories and they remember good customers. I always get great treatment, ever since I brought my kid brother's car there to get a stereo swapped out. His factory stereo wasn't working right and luckily this shop had a compatible factory stereo pulled from a customer who upgraded. They gave a great price then and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. NO KIDDING. I highly suspect that some of these negative Yelp comments are fabricated too. Auto Sound Barrier's techs are super. You don't get those kinds of employees if you're a jerk and a thief like some of these comments allude. read more

This place doesn't get the proper attention it deserves. I was looking to get my car tinted, called several places for quotes and these guys are by far the cheapest guys in the city!! They charged me $50 cheaper than other big name places to fully tint a 2014 Nissan Sentra. Plus lifetime warranty! What more can you ask for with a family owned business? The place is small, but that's the beauty of Customer Service. They focus on customers need and make sure you walk out satisfied with their service.
