Well run smaller room in the area. Lots of regulars you get to know, which can make the games more social and enjoyable.

The venue itself has a lively, open feel with an urban backyard vibe and plenty of space to move around, mingle, and actually take in the installation without feeling crowded. What stood out most was how well the space complemented the event. The layout made it easy to engage with the installation while still enjoying the social vibe. They had space for working virtually as well as displays to test some of the technology. There's a nice balance between indoor comfort and that signature rooftop-style setting, which gives it a relaxed but elevated feel. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly, and the overall setup felt thoughtfully organized. Whether you were there to focus on the installation or just take it in casually, the environment supported both. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda. The bartender was efficient even though the lines were long. The cocktail was enjoyable with the balance of smoky and citrus flavors. They also had a variety of food bites available including chips and queso. creamy street corn, and sliders. The food was gone relatively quickly due to the crowds but it would be replenished periodically. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline proved to be a solid venue for a creative SXSW event versatile, welcoming, and very on-brand for Austin's arts and tech scene.

Since we ordered basically one of everything - here are our recommendations. Appetizers GET THIS: 1. Corn dog shrimp (think shrimp tempura) - light, flavorful, crunchy YUM 2. Cathead biscuits NOT THAT: 1. Street corn queso dip not a favorite for our table. The cheese tasted thick and plastic like... Velveeta vibes... not much flavor Meals GET THIS: 1. Hangar Steak 2. Creole shrimp & grits 3. Chicken fried steak Not that: 1. Horseradish crusted salmon - I didn't try it but the two people who ordered at our table were disappointed and wished they would've gotten one of the above Desserts GET THIS: 1. Bread pudding was delicious! Not overly sweet & the added white chocolate gives it that dazzle dazzle 2. Chocolate Espresso Brownie - perfection NOT THAT: 1. Banana cream pudding. This was a no for the table because it was over the top sweet (I think because of the added butterscotch) 2. Peanut Butter Mousse Pie super super thick & sweet. Didn't taste much other than PB - it was like eating a giant spoonful of it and trying to swallow.

Friendly staff overall. The food fell flat for almost all of us. The salads were fresh and good. However, the ribs were below average. Cornbread was stale and not tasty. Biscuits tasted more like firm bread and not at all flaky/soft. That seemed weird to all of us. Chicken fried steak was soggy and not crispy. Drinks were ok. Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? We didn't try that.

We asked if it would be okay to order food from the bar in the lobby, and they were more than accommodating -- which honestly says a lot about their service. The bartender was incredibly nice, attentive, and made us feel completely taken care of the whole time. And the food? 10/10. Every single bite was on point. Corinne continues to be one of those places you can count on for great food, great service, and a relaxed but elevated vibe. Perfect for celebrations or even a casual night out. We'll always come back.

Our server didn't give us time to settle in, look over the menu, or enjoy our drinks and appetizers at our own pace. We felt like he wanted to rush through the service, and when we asked for a bit more time, he seemed annoyed. The prices are high for the quality and portion sizes you get, even for a hotel restaurant. We ordered the burrata and spicy tuna bruschetta -- both were good, especially the bruschetta. Our party also ordered the filet mignon, Scottish salmon, and rotisserie chicken. The steak was overcooked. The salmon was good, while the chicken looked pale and had an okay flavor. The key lime pie had a very hard crust (possibly stale?), and the sorbet was just okay. Overall, the service was not as welcoming as we expected and made us feel rushed to finish. The prices also do not feel proportionate to what you get. I don't think we would come back, especially with so many other options around.

The food was incredibly creative while still feeling approachable and shareable. Every dish felt thoughtful and unique without being overcomplicated. The burrata with curry was unreal, the beet hummus was packed with flavor, the shrimp was perfect, and the desserts completely lived up to the hype. One of those menus where you immediately want to order more just to try everything. The atmosphere is also part of what makes it special. Tucked into a former laundromat in a quiet neighborhood, it has that effortlessly cool Austin feel. It was charming, relaxed, and unexpected. And the staff truly elevated the experience. Warm, polished, knowledgeable, and attentive without ever feeling pretentious. Absolutely worth the short drive from the airport area.

The asparagus Benny just made so much sense when you think about it. Eggs Benedict requires hollandaise and asparagus with hollandaise is always delicious. Why not put it all together for the best benny I've had in a long time? Just delicious! Lattes were cute and the perfect start to a brunch meal. We added lavender to mine and a little brown sugar flavor to hers. Good stuff! Turkish egg? Yep, exactly what I was thinking. What in the world is that. I don't know if it was a traditional dish but what an explosion of flavor. Put it all together on a perfectly toasted piece of bread and bam! Perfect accompaniment to a perfect brunch. Last but not least the Salmon Gravlax. Looks simple but by no means did it taste simple. Caviar on a buttery spread. Spicy pickles, perfectly cooked egg, seasoned tomatoes, rye bread. None of these are special in themselves but when combined, yes! Amazingness! Oh and the service? Wonderful! Attentive, kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. Space? Super cute! Felt like we were in a vacation town somewhere in Florida. Very retro, cool. Loved everything about this place. Zero complaints. Millions of compliments. Highly recommend!

The menu changes seasonally which is always a good sign that fresh, high-quality ingredients are being used. This visit, I went with the three-course option for $55: the ahi tuna tataki, Georges Bank scallops and blue corn pudding. Everything was excellent, but the tuna was the clear standout as the presentation alone is a real showstopper. My only minor critique was the tomatoes in the scallop dish, which were a bit too large and ripe for my taste. That said, the service here is consistently impressive. I especially appreciated that the manager stopped by to introduce himself, a thoughtful touch you don't see very often anymore. They also validate parking which makes it easy to visit, especially if you're pairing dinner with something else nearby. I'm already looking forward to seeing what new dishes they roll out next season.

We did the 3 course for $55 deal - everything was masterfully crafted and just a pure culinary sensation. The dishes were also so incredibly beautiful and had fresh, local garnishes on top. I had the pork belly appetizer (incredible), the scallop entree ( a tad rancid but the BBQ succotash and hush puppies were amazing), and the vegan black forest cake (deep cocoa and rich). Each dish had many sauces and components / veggies that melded together perfectly. The portions were generous too. BF had the cauliflower soup, steak, and blue corn pudding and said it was the best meal he's had in Austin too. The interior is dimly lit, classy, and romantic. Edgar was the best waiter I have ever had the delight of interacting with - he was polite, attentive, and the pinnacle of sophistication. I can't wait to come back!
