A few years ago, nobody believed me that they would be expanding. It was just a hunch. This is an incredible poker brand that does almost everything right. I do believe some locations are nicer and safer than others but I won't get into that. This location is nice and safe. And very well run. Obviously, TCH Austin is going to see enormous market-share gains due to recent events in the area. I believe smaller TX rooms without a fun vibe and character will fade away, market-share will continue to improve for TCH across the state and GTDs will continue to move higher. Side Note: Bullets and Champions are smaller rooms that are fun and have character and are on the good side. I believe the same thing will happen in Vegas. All the poker rooms at the ends of the Strip are closing, which is leading to increased traffic for the bigger and more centralized rooms. There is only one poker room left at the end of the strip and I think it has a few years left at best. However, Vegas rooms that are fun and with character--just like in TX--will thrive. I put South Point at the very top of that list. Getting back to TX, I think TCH is at zero risk of suffering the same fate as other rooms and will become an absolute juggernaut for a long time. Even if the casinos move in, they will likely buy the brand--if it gets big enough. These are just my thoughts and opinions. Sam was the trailblazer in Texas club poker and they've taken his legacy and let it shine as bright as I used to think it would one day. Place is well maintained, well run, clean, cheaper rake than casinos, amazing specials and giveaways. $5/mo membership for first responders and military. I've player poker all over the world and this is by far the worst card room I've ever been to. There is awful music blaring everywhere. The dealers are unprofessional and don't know how to keep a game moving. Multiple players at every table I played at were hammered and starting fights. The floor men look like they were all in prison previously. Literally the worst experience I've ever had playing poker. read more

This review is mainly to counter some of the other really terrible reviews that aren't a - accurate and b - terribly written. I never went to the old location but I've been to the new one a few times and it's great. Some things that the other reviews mis-stated: - you can use your phone at the table, at least to text and scroll while you are grinding out hands. No, you can't have a loud phone call at the table because it's disrupting to the table but you can stand up and sit a hand out - the timer starts when you sit AT the table, not when you check in or are waiting. The dealers have a tablet like device that checks you in when you sit down. So, you are not being charged to wait - there is a ton of parking in the strip mall lot. No neighborhood parking is needed - the food and drink servers are super friendly and fun. Yes, there could be a few more of them, it can take a little long to get their attention. But they are great. And the food is actually pretty good. - Some, not all, of the dealers are awesome. Super funny and welcoming. They swap the dealers out every 30 minutes to keep them fresh and non-biased. I'm just your average rec player who isn't looking to go pro or win a ton of money. I just enjoy the game and I make plenty of mistakes and all of my trips here felt easy going. I was never made to feel like a rec idiot who didn't belong. Also, every table I sat at was a good crowd with lots of banter and laughs. I've also won a fair amount and cashing out has been easy. read more

Terrible location. The hourly rate is a joke, they expect tips from every pot that all the staff and management split and they are ridiculous about using cell phones. You're not allowed to make calls and you can't get paged for calls there either. Definitely the worst place to play in TX. read more

Horrible crowd, horrible poker, total non fun vibes. Place was super empty chairs are uncomfortable and they don't allow you to be on your phone. You can't even sit it near/ on the table. The games are incredibly slow and low stakes with maybe occasionally a private game. I just hated it. It's the worst card house I've ever been to and I've been to card houses all over the US this is the WORST. I've never sat at a table where everyone is constantly bickering and arguing over a few dollars. Not one nice thing to say. Just horrible experience with crap people. read more

i was so excited they had a bigger location with food and drinks. it was great at first. the salmon was great. margaritas were great for a couple months. The last few time there the service was horrible. If I sit for 20 minutes to order a drink they are losing money. And they've raised the prices. Plus using a huge old fashioned ice cube for a marg is stupid. It was actually a fourth of a drink. Won't go back. read more

Clean room with friendly staff, lots of tables. You wont find a better poker club in Texas. They are one of the few clubs operating legally.

Had no idea cash poker was legal if done the right way. Just found out there are numerous "social" clubs in town this one being one of them. Texas card house is very cliquey and you tend to see the same players every day. Front staff are very friendly and helpful but dealers are hit or miss. You'll have dealers that are very good and professional yet others that are rude and sloppy. Rules are extremely inconsistent depending who is dealing. I think I will explore other clubs due to these issues. read more

I have 2 issues with the facility. Poor lighting and poor to no security. As far as the games, if you like bomb pots this is your place. Ive been in Austin for six months and have played at casinos all over. Ive had 14 sessions at TCH. Here are the cons and pros. What this place is missing mostly is consistency. First they had a bad beat, then that went away. Some of dealers let the regulars skirt the rules. When really everyone should be treated the same. On top of that the dealers, most of the time, get upset when you call them out on a mistake and are wrong. An attitude adjustment would be nice. They are just not well trained professionals. Still a growing pains process it seems like. Ive had two incidents where my chips have been miscounted cashing out. By two different people. The tables are terrible, 1,10 seat cant see shit except for one half of a table that they are on. Second the hourly rate is okay, as long as the dealer is getting at least two orbits in a half hour. Ive had sessions where its been 8/9 hands. Which at that point, you cant beat the rake. Furthermore scheduling breaks during the tournament an hour an 20 minutes after its began is another way to increase rake. We see that. Don't get me wrong, i don't want anything for free, but i also have little incentive to keep playing tournaments. You want people incentivized. The ATM cost an arm and a leg $5. Why? Ive used this ATM 4Xs and have regretted it every time. Implementing a $3 ATM will stop people from leaving and you should have a row of them. Security does not make me feel any better. Ive left kind of watching over my shoulder a few times. That on top of recent incidents, even beefing security up doesn't make me feel safer. Most of the dudes they hire seem unprofessional. They socialize with the other workers and are on their phone constantly. Distracted= not a secure environment. The positive notes. You can rent a room/ have a private game of your choosing with the same rake. The facility is clean. The response time is usually fast. They seem to genuinely want to get better at what they do. They let you bring your own booze. They provide a food delivery service. They provide an overlay if a guarantee tournament falls short. They have tvs with sports on. The staff, for the most part, are nice people. Would i keep playing here exclusively, no. There needs to be a wider range of games. Limit, more plo nights. Stud. Better accommodations between the cash and tournament areas. I will definitely keep going back in hopes it improves. read more

too expensive, and now they're going to shame you into paying the dealers tips; the tips are shared amongst staff and management. I thought it was illegal for the house to take money out of the pot? I don't care how they finangle it, out of your wallet or pocket or in chips, it's still money that you brought to the game that now goes to the house. Their greed knows no bounds. But a nice place to play; just too expensive. I'm going to start playing the rake games again; it's cheaper and you get free drinks and food. When TCH feels like it, they bring a pizza once in a while. And maybe BBQ on some saturdays. Their coffee machine puts out horrible coffee. Tastes like Starbucks on acid. It's freezing most of the time. Fat owners and managers feel hot so they don't care if all their players are shivering, they crank it down for themselves. read more

I really enjoy poker and generally play at the Lodge as it is closer to my house. I've been coming here after work for a couple of hours here and there just to try something new. Overall, the place is nice, I have not really seen any operational issues. However, my issue is with security. Its very rare to see a security guard outside, where you are most likely to get mugged. When I leave the Lodge, there's never a time where a security guard have not followed me outside. They usually follow me to my car. Its quiet the opposite at the Texas Card House. I've only seen a security guard, inside or out, 25% of the time. Only once of the 20 times I've gone there, the guard was standing outside. However, it was a quick, hi. He never looked attentive to watch me walk all the way to my car, besides not even escorting me. Its not like there are a ton of people leaving at once. Security is a big issue here. People have died for less than $200. I will give this place another try after 6 months in hopes that the owner will make adjustment. If you are owner, I encourage you to go to The Lodge and watch how much security players get when the leave the facility. read more

This business has made a few Improvements to the poker club game- a sign that they are listening to their members and always looking to better the experience. The security has been upgraded, loyal members are now rewarded with a discounted membership fee, and the tables have been re-felted. The best poker club in the game has gotten better. read more

Very nice, open space with comfortable chairs and many TV screens. Because males are the principal clientele, all screens play sports. This night we had MLB, US Open and Ninja Warriors. Best aspect by far is/are the dealers -- extremely competent. My $1/2 NLHE cash game moved along at a good clip, w/no BS. Front desk ok, could be clearer with club policies, rules, membership costs, etc. Possible improvements: - auto card shufflers; - 1-2 TV screens set to non-sports; - fun promotions, such as: win some monogrammed merch; - eliminate games from website that are not actually spread, such as $3-6 limit; - reduce ATM fee: $5 is usurious. - reduce hourly seat fee and/oroffer discount to frequent flyers. read more

Great location to play cards with professionally trained dealers. Tournaments 4 or 5 nights a week with everything from free rolls to $200 buy ins. A couple times a year they have high dollar gtd events also like the vegas casinos. I've played at most of the clubs in Austin and would rather play here. NLH, PLO, and mixed games spread here regularly. $10 an hour to play. read more

This place is a joke. The attitudes of the dealers are terrible. If you are a regular do as you please if not they scold you like you are in school. I am new to the area and have played in 30 states. San Antonio has better rooms and if you are in S Austin it's an easy drive. No adult wants to be treated with this level of disregard and hang in there Austin the good rooms are coming. TCH thinks they have the only option but not for long. Alamo Card House I highly recommend Any response will fall on deaf ears because the issues start at the top and the employee attitudes start with you. I hope the new coming rooms get here soon. I have been to all the new card rooms in the Austin area and this is my favorite for a few reasons. Most importantly are the dealers. I want to see as many hands as possible and the dealers here make far few mistakes then I have seen at the other rooms and also are more attentive at keeping the game moving. They are not watching sports and they are quick to get a players attention when they are spacing out on their phone. Maybe there was some problems when they first opened but I have been coming here for a month and the dealers are top notch. This room also has the most tables running and it is easy to make a table change if you wish. The room is also the nicest visually and actually feels like a legit card room or poker room in a casino. The only downside is they are slightly more expensive hourly ($10 vs some rooms $8 or 9) and they charge a $2 service fee every time you clock in. The quality of the games overall more than make up for this difference. I still play at the other rooms but I will be playing at TCH the majority of the time. read more

I especially enjoy having the option of taking mini-breaks at the pool table... a good way to reset and come back to the poker table refreshed. Hands down the best Card Room in central Texas, frankly in all of Texas. Legal, Upscale and safe place with high end chairs and good card players. Dealers are consistent, well trained, and professional. Managers are dressed in suits and highly competent. 2 uniformed security guards at night. Complimentary coffee all day and Food every evening from primarily local owned businesses. Just overall a well run operation that provides a consistent, fun and safe experience every time I attend. read more

I have been in the casino business for 10 yrs. and I have to say that the Texas Card House is true Vegas experience right here in the little city of Austin. Management ensures rules are followed and enforced, dealers are trained to a standard well above what one would expect, and the players are fantastic (lots of action and very few issues). If you are a local or visiting from out of town and need to get your poker fix like I did, I would definitely recommend checking out the Texas Card House. read more
