This place is the best of the best and THE fanciest of them all!…read moreI've been to many poker rooms in the greater Austin area and this place blows them all away. They didn't skimp on the interior design and and giant TVs all over the place. The staff is always nice and respectful and the dealers are very professional as well. The have a full food menu with notably all day breakfast and a full bar. The food is delicious! Yes, you heard right, delicious food in a poker establishment! My favorite so far is the Cajun Salmon and my friend loves the skewers. The first time around I got mash potatoes and string beans. It was so good, I ordered it the next time but with jasmine rice which is also good. There's a huge lounge area with comfy sofas where you can watch TV on several giant screens or you can just hang out at the bar with full drink menu. My only minor nit pick is that the TV's are a bit out of the way at the bar so you kinda have to rotate around to see the games. The price for membership is $10 per day or $30 per month and the hourly fee is $12 if you are playing on the tables. Unfortunately you can't pay with chips so have your credit card or cash ready. This place has become my all time favorite and poker room of choice. Thanks TCH!

They had a frozen watermelon rose I tried which I really like, if you get an additional shooter to go with it, make sure you mix it in! They have a good amount of drinks to choose from, it's a great place to chill with friends and enjoy the weather. Lots of seating and picnic table style seating. I've been twice and would definitely go back!

The venue itself has a lively, open feel with an urban backyard vibe and plenty of space to move around, mingle, and actually take in the installation without feeling crowded. What stood out most was how well the space complemented the event. The layout made it easy to engage with the installation while still enjoying the social vibe. They had space for working virtually as well as displays to test some of the technology. There's a nice balance between indoor comfort and that signature rooftop-style setting, which gives it a relaxed but elevated feel. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly, and the overall setup felt thoughtfully organized. Whether you were there to focus on the installation or just take it in casually, the environment supported both. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda. The bartender was efficient even though the lines were long. The cocktail was enjoyable with the balance of smoky and citrus flavors. They also had a variety of food bites available including chips and queso. creamy street corn, and sliders. The food was gone relatively quickly due to the crowds but it would be replenished periodically. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline proved to be a solid venue for a creative SXSW event versatile, welcoming, and very on-brand for Austin's arts and tech scene.

The club is beautifully decorated, and the restaurant/bar serves good food and drink. We stayed in a nice hotel room, but were quite surprised to discover that we had no hot water. After many attempts to fix it, and move us to another room that also did not have hot water, and offer us a third room, we decided to stay in the original room. We wasted a lot of time packing/unpacking, moving between rooms. Eventually one staffer admitted the property had poor hot water circulation in some areas and that the "property was not built as a hotel". The maddening part of all this is the reluctance of the management to admit to what is a known issue, and to offer us a free breakfast as compensation for a $1000 stay. The staff are highly trained to be polite, engaging and outwardly helpful, but are totally unequipped to deal with a real problem that is not easily fixed or papered over.

Think of it as a calm, upscale sitting lounge with lots of natural light (but still a moodiness, owing to the dark furnishings), that also happens to have food and drinks available. You may not be promptly served menus like in a restaurant; they aren't going to rush you out to turn your table after 45 minutes either. Come to sit and chat or work, and appreciate the fact that you don't have to dash out to get a bite to eat when you get too hungry. The guac is great. The protein in the smoothies is not sufficiently blended.

I do believe some locations are nicer and safer than others but I won't get into that. This location is nice and safe. And very well run. Obviously, TCH Austin is going to see enormous market-share gains due to recent events in the area. I believe smaller TX rooms without a fun vibe and character will fade away, market-share will continue to improve for TCH across the state and GTDs will continue to move higher. Side Note: Bullets and Champions are smaller rooms that are fun and have character and are on the good side. I believe the same thing will happen in Vegas. All the poker rooms at the ends of the Strip are closing, which is leading to increased traffic for the bigger and more centralized rooms. There is only one poker room left at the end of the strip and I think it has a few years left at best. However, Vegas rooms that are fun and with character--just like in TX--will thrive. I put South Point at the very top of that list. Getting back to TX, I think TCH is at zero risk of suffering the same fate as other rooms and will become an absolute juggernaut for a long time. Even if the casinos move in, they will likely buy the brand--if it gets big enough. These are just my thoughts and opinions. If you're a poker player traveling to TX for a poker tourney, I highly recommend TCH.
