It was not crowded, as you'd probably expect for a not-vacation-season weekday, and we took over a couple lounge beds and had a corner of the pool to ourselves. The poolside bar service was great, which is not a given when the clientele is sparse. If you were coming in to find a hot party scene on a Wednesday you'd probably be disappointed. But I thought it was great! There's a restroom with showers by the pool, too, so easy to fix yourself up and transition to a post-pool activity even if you're not a hotel guest.

The music was on point for the audience and everyone from the staff to the guests were warm and welcoming. Being from the west coast you can definitely notice a difference in friendliness. The layout is really fun, with the club being front and center on the first floor and the play rooms up above in an atrium style. There are two stages, one for dancing and another with a pole. The area is huge, with plenty of tables and space to mingle. If I could give more than 5 stars I would because of what happened afterward. I forgot a very sentimental purse there. I called as soon as we got home and the manager, Vannessa, stayed in touch with me over text, coordinating with the staff and cleaning crew to track it down. Weeks went by and just this morning I got a text that she had found it. It's in the mail on the way home. I'm so touched by this gesture and will be sure to visit again when we are back in Austin.

Based on an invitation from a Yelp friend, I ended up at Pershing Hall again for Motown Mondays…read more On December 22nd, Pershing Hall not only featured Motown Mondays, but also their Yule Groove and Holiday Market. The Matchmaker Band was belting some soulful songs while guests danced the night away. In addition, local vendors were selling their wares from jewelry and fur coats to books and winterwear, i.e. Spider Goddess Divination, LA LO LA Clothing, and Thunderhouse Media Group. Guests consumed holiday cocktails, competed at Pershing Hall's Ugly Sweater Social, and shopped at the Holiday Pop-Up Market with local vendors. Saint Nic aka Santa was milling about for photos along with his naughty elves. This event was free to the public along with free parking (normal entry fee is $5 for ladies). Doors and market opened at 5 PM, social from 6:30-8:30 PM, and Matchmaker Band began singing and playing at 8:30 PM. It is always fun dancing at Motown Mondays. In full transparency, I enjoyed the band more the last time we were at Motown Mondays. However, I am sure I will return.

Security had to point my old, confused ass in the right direction, after 3 trips around the venue. Finally got in and ordered a drink and was rudely and loudly told that CASH IS NOT ACCEPTED. (I'm guessing his mom must have yelled at him when she dropped him off at work.) So I played along and swiped a card and asked if I could leave it open and if I could leave a cash tip. The King of the Bartenders told me "NO, I have to close out and that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill". Thats when the senior citizen in me said, nope, nope, nope, that is absolutely unacceptable and called him a thief. But with more senior citizen-y words. I might have even rolled my one good eye and threatened to take my teeth out. Ol' King Bartender decided to take my drink back, threaten to call security and told me to "get the fuck out". If I recall correctly, (and maybe things have changed in my old age), tips are performance based and completely voluntary. I'm not sure if this is club policy, non-member policy or an angry bartender policy that can't get tips any other way. And based on his performance, a 0% tip would have been too much. Maybe its my fault for not researching the venue or maybe there should be signs up explaining the rules to non-members. Either way, I would not recommend this place to people with more brains than money. Or anyone. Brains or not.
