This was the perfect venue, the former Millett Opera House, for the KMFA (Klassical Music For Austin) membership brunch on February 29, 2020. It was indeed a pleasure to be amongst those who share the love of classical music allowing us to engage in stimulating conversation in elegant surroundings. On my plate you'll notice a little aluminum cup with cubed French toast that had already been buttered with maple syrup added as well. The mimosas were rather weak so I had more than one. A saxophone quartet performed and they were amazing. The entire staff was very attentive and professional. I would most definitely recommend The Club Austin to those with the need to entertain in style and elegance.

The venue itself has a lively, open feel with an urban backyard vibe and plenty of space to move around, mingle, and actually take in the installation without feeling crowded. What stood out most was how well the space complemented the event. The layout made it easy to engage with the installation while still enjoying the social vibe. They had space for working virtually as well as displays to test some of the technology. There's a nice balance between indoor comfort and that signature rooftop-style setting, which gives it a relaxed but elevated feel. The staff was friendly and kept things running smoothly, and the overall setup felt thoughtfully organized. Whether you were there to focus on the installation or just take it in casually, the environment supported both. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda. The bartender was efficient even though the lines were long. The cocktail was enjoyable with the balance of smoky and citrus flavors. They also had a variety of food bites available including chips and queso. creamy street corn, and sliders. The food was gone relatively quickly due to the crowds but it would be replenished periodically. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline proved to be a solid venue for a creative SXSW event versatile, welcoming, and very on-brand for Austin's arts and tech scene.

The club is beautifully decorated, and the restaurant/bar serves good food and drink. We stayed in a nice hotel room, but were quite surprised to discover that we had no hot water. After many attempts to fix it, and move us to another room that also did not have hot water, and offer us a third room, we decided to stay in the original room. We wasted a lot of time packing/unpacking, moving between rooms. Eventually one staffer admitted the property had poor hot water circulation in some areas and that the "property was not built as a hotel". The maddening part of all this is the reluctance of the management to admit to what is a known issue, and to offer us a free breakfast as compensation for a $1000 stay. The staff are highly trained to be polite, engaging and outwardly helpful, but are totally unequipped to deal with a real problem that is not easily fixed or papered over.

Think of it as a calm, upscale sitting lounge with lots of natural light (but still a moodiness, owing to the dark furnishings), that also happens to have food and drinks available. You may not be promptly served menus like in a restaurant; they aren't going to rush you out to turn your table after 45 minutes either. Come to sit and chat or work, and appreciate the fact that you don't have to dash out to get a bite to eat when you get too hungry. The guac is great. The protein in the smoothies is not sufficiently blended.

The Matchmaker Band was belting some soulful songs while guests danced the night away. In addition, local vendors were selling their wares from jewelry and fur coats to books and winterwear, i.e. Spider Goddess Divination, LA LO LA Clothing, and Thunderhouse Media Group. Guests consumed holiday cocktails, competed at Pershing Hall's Ugly Sweater Social, and shopped at the Holiday Pop-Up Market with local vendors. Saint Nic aka Santa was milling about for photos along with his naughty elves. This event was free to the public along with free parking (normal entry fee is $5 for ladies). There is not a lot of real networking done. The most correspondence I get from them is either them asking me for me money or them asking me to attend an event and pay money. I feel bad because my mom paid money for this thinking it would provide a lot of networking opportunities for me, but ultimately I think we were just scammed.
