Kitty's is a chill spot to get a good drink. The espresso martini is stiff! They had a nice brunch-ish special on mimosas on Saturday. Up until this past visit, I had only sat inside at night. Went to this interesting, fun venue with my wife, and two friends, on their invitation last night. Got lucky and parked across the street, but I think parking could be a bit challenging later on in the evening. The place was decorated for Hanukkah, which is a change of pace from typical Christmas decorations this time of year. Nice touch. A woman named Ming that cooks up some delicious Cambodian food put her Hanukkah spin on three items, and all were good, but special mention for the curry matzoh ball soup which was fantastic! Happy hour prices are a steal, cocktails range from classic to creative and not a dud on the menu, and the frozens can't be beat on a hot day (which is most). The little pool outside is adorable, perfect to dip your toes in and pretend you're at a fabulous resort somewhere. Plenty of space, indoors and out, to chill with friends or relax solo. Plus, easy street parking. The only thing that's missing is food, unless there's a special event, but walk a few blocks and grab a bite somewhere else if you need to. I've been going to Kitty Cohen's for years and it was hit or miss for me at first, but now I love it. The turnaround point was when I was an extra for the show twentysomethings and they filmed a scene here. I got a drink ticket or two, but I befriended the bartenders and ended up getting hooked up all night. I've enjoyed their pop up Halloween bar when that happens. But recently Kitty Cohen's added a Sunday night whisky special... all top shelf whisky is half off and they have $7 Old Fashioned's. Amazing! Always great service from whoever's working. My boyfriend took me here because he's been here a lot with his friends, and we needed to pass the time before a movie. He'd never been here during the evenings because it's supposedly jam-packed and filled with people during the day. I can definitely sense the vibe because there's a pool in the middle and their drinks are really reasonably priced. We sat at the bar on a Sunday evening during MDW, and there weren't many people at all. However, the bartender was really nice and kept checking in on us. I had a nice visiting this bar. It's super cute and I love the outside and inside ambiance. All the servers are great and they had Zee's Wiener System there so I ate two hotdogs while having my drinks. The hot dogs were a pop up but they were absolutely delicious!!!! The dried Oranges and lemons were a nice touch on the drinks. It was a bit chilly outside and the patio heat lamps weren't on. We actually saw a patron trying to turn theirs on herself. Once there was space inside we finished our drinks there. There was an employee walking around clearing tables. It was odd though, she would clear glasses of those that weren't even finished. A dog was tied to a table with drinks and we tried yelling they weren't finished before she grabbed the cups. When inside she quickly grabbed my boyfriend's drink without asking if he was finished with it...he wasn't. It happened so fast. I have kept Kitty Cohen as a personal secret ever since Luci H introduced me to this gem a few years back, and she has been the reason why I even get an ounce of street cred. Before East Austin, was East Austin (IYKYK), then y'all will understand that a few years back Kitty Cohen's was a safe haven for locals and the true cool kids of the city. The ones who are such badasses with their own sense of style, flair, appreciation for live music, and didn't exude any of the LA-ish wannabe behavior. This spot was like my version of heaven if I ever end up in heaven (pretty certain I have a table reserved in Hades lol). The Palm Springs vibes, mini wade pool, frose, all with some of the best music and bartenders. What more could one want?! I've loved Kitty Cohen's and it's one of my favorite cards to play when I'm in charge of date night or HH with friends and family. I can seriously die here happy. The drinks are always superb and the energy here is reminiscent of a dive bar your rich widowed aunt whose husband mysteriously passed away would hang out at. Kitty Cohen's personality, as a bar, is one I hope to have in real life. What I love about this place the most is the outside pool which comes in handy during our hot texas summers which fun fact they also serve frozen treats like the expresso martini and the dreamsicle which I got to try this go around. Both are super tasty and refreshing but if frozen isn't your thing they also have plenty of beer and wine options as well. My wife and I dropped by for drinks earlg on Fri. around 4pm...parking on the street was easy, and we really enjoyed the poolside vibe / ambiance and umbrella atmosphere. We were unfortunate enough to have a gust of wind pull our umbrella down on top of us, but only drinks were lost, no injuries, and the bartenders wete quick to comp refills. we began w Aperol Spritzes, but loved our mezcal drinks even more. I stopped here with my husband on a Sunday afternoon after our original plans went south. We could find on-the-street parking, a bonus as it was outside the entrance. My husband ordered the banana old fashion, and I ordered the daiquiri off the cocktail menu. Cocktails are getting expensive in Austin y'all! I love this place so so so so much. The gimmick is that they've got an in-ground concrete wading pool where folks can cool off their feet in the summertime. It may sound a bit weird but it actually facilitates a very hip summertime vibe. But I come for the cocktails. They're so great. The bartenders know what they're doing, are happy to engage in a conversation about cocktail preferences, and aren't afraid to improvise a substitution here or there. I've been in Austin for years and finally was able to check out Kitty Cohen's yesterday. There's something about sitting next to the pool drinking frose that's makes the Texas heat a little better! We went for happy hour, which is until 7 weekdays. Although it wasn't on the happy hour, we tried the frozen swirl drink and it was delicious! After the swirl, I got the honey lemon gin martini, and my friend got the margarita. Both were in happy hour and both were amazing. The bartenders were also so much fun, and the entire staff is beyond friendly. There's even a cat that hangs out there that may come up to you to say hello! Lastly, we thought they didn't have food but they had a burger food truck there that smelled awesome, that you could order from at your table. We didn't order anything, but will be eating next time!
