We've been members for a long time and I've always been impressed with how much more this club is…read moreable to do for its members with the amount they pay for it. While other clubs are demanding entry fees above the average American's annual income, high monthly rates, periodic multi-thousand dollar assessments, etc., balcones somehow gets by with a monthly fee comparable to a cell phone bill and still manages to be more fun, especially for families. Swim team, golf, regular fun family events, various clubs, tennis, pickleball, cornhole tournaments, the list goes on. The staff is super friendly, the food is very good, and the value you get for your money is remarkable. Finally, the youth golf program is just truly exceptional. It's led by JJ Jennings who is one of those incredible people you feel very lucky to have the opportunity to meet and have your children taught by. An endlessly patient, fun, and talented teacher, JJ churns out great young golfers, and had my son truly loving the game even after only a few lessons. 10+ lessons in and we're now able play together, and at 12 years old its like playing with a mature little man. So much fun. Also under JJ's leadership, the other coaches emulate his style and I've heard nothing but great things about them as well. I really can't recommend the youth golf academy enough.

Every Friday they do a buffet for $20 (for members) and each Friday it's a different spread. Awesome managers and a months FULL of events. There are two different ways to talk about this place... as a country club and as a golf course…read more Let's start with the latter. Let's be real, GCC is never going to host a US Open qualifier. But now that that's out of the way, my advice is to take this place for what it is instead of complaining about what it is not. It is NOT a super long or super challenging course. It IS a beautiful, old school golf course that is well maintained and cleverly laid out. The course was built in 1925 so many of the fairways are pretty narrow. If you're used to just bombing away, slices be damned... you won't play very well here. But if you enjoy figuring out tricky approaches and aren't intimidated by hilly lies, there's plenty here to keep even the best players engaged. What about the club? Same principle applies. Take it for what it is, not what it is not. The club itself is NOT a place where you'll see Teslas and Ferraris in the parking lot. And you're probably not going to find investors for your new startup here. But you ARE going to find great people and a tight little community. The bar is busy most nights and the food is good. If you've been a member at any golf clubs, you know that these are not things to be taken for granted. The tennis community is active and the club is very friendly towards children and families. Basically, this might be the perfect country club for people who never thought they would want to join a country club. If that's you, you'll love it! If not, you've got plenty of other great choices.
