It was good and fun. I like the atmosphere and with friends it's so much fun. Nothing to complain about.

Two weeks in and it's been a blast! Tons of fun for no more than regular bowling prices. Cheaper in fact.

"I knew you were gonna be a white dude"…read more :) Those were the first words I heard out of my new little brothers mouth as his mother shushed him and asked if it mattered to him that I was a white guy. Funny, I thought. He's got a great personality and this will be a fun match. Since that day, my little brother and I have seen the famed Austin cathedral of junk together (just in time, I hear they are gonna tear it down!), checked out the texas juggling society (I had no idea this even existed) and helped each other to take a step back, explore austin and enjoy life. Once on board you will find BBBS has match specialists and staff that will help you in every way possible along with giving you ideas and activities that yelp wouldn't even help you think up (mostly free, like kite fest, juggling society, etc.). I'm on my 3rd little brother (hate to tell you but sometimes littles move and/or break up with you, that's life) and the application process/background check can be a little lengthy but it's definitely worth it. Your initial commitment is that you will be a stable influence in a kids life for a minimum of a year. If you've got the time, give it a shot. BBBS of Central Texas is a great organization and they need bigs. If you decide to do it, msg me... I'd love to hear about it.

I really like the location-it's central for everyone around Austin, and it's a classy place to have our lunch meetings. Plenty of parking with the parking garage and our group had plenty of seating in the banquet hall that we reserved. Food was good and the staff was very friendly. We did have a large group so next time we may need additional areas where food is served to avoid having a huge line of people waiting for food. The only downside (and not a junior league problem) is the light at Bluffstone and 360 is awful and not timed correctly. It lets maybe 2 cars go before it turns red again so plan accordingly when you leave if you have a lot of people. Looking forward to more luncheons here each month and I'll make sure to update throughout the year.

I really wanted to give The Junior League one star - but they do some good things for the…read morecommunity, so I added another one for that. This review is based on the way the organization is run, as well as the requirements for new members. I joined the league last year, and quickly experienced frustration with the following: -There is hardly flexibility in the type of volunteering you want to do. It all goes towards 3-4 programs, and you must work a certain amount of hours for each. -It is nearly impossible to book shifts. For the volunteer program that you are required to spend the bulk of your time on as a new member, shifts were released at 6am. You are basically refreshing your screen as if you are trying to score concert tickets, hoping to get a shift! There were at least 3 occasions where the shifts were not released the time they were promised, after members had made time in their early morning schedule to be available. Very frustrating. -The shifts you DO work are often overstaffed. This is especially true of the Christmas Affair, which we were required to work 8 hours in one week. We stood around bored for most of the 8 hours, as there were way too many volunteers on each shift. The league has been made aware of this over the years, but refuses to adjust the requirements. -There are many meetings you are required to attend, which cover hardly any valuable information. This could be emailed, rather than sit in traffic trying to make the 6pm weeknight meetings. -The communication from Junior League was terrible. Tons of conflicting emails, multiple emails with the same content, confusing messages, etc. Many time was spent in a group text with my small group trying to understand what exactly we needed to do, how to achieve the requirements set forth for us, etc. Overall, Junior League is very unorganized, and for the expensive membership and all the hours you are asked to volunteer, they certainly could be making better use of your time. Since nobody from the league bothered to ask my feedback when I resigned, I wanted to let others know. It is very disappointing that the Junior League of Austin has no desire to hear feedback or try to improve the organization.
