Hilariously bad service. Like, if every bartender wasn't experiencing their first night then they may want to consider whether or not they're cut out for bartending. Stood at the bar and watched this guy make one cocktail a minute, not look up at all between movements or drinks and went to the cooler 4 times to get a single ingredient each time for ONE drink and that happened several times while I waited. And the only reason I went back to the bar was because I realized they'd rand me up wrong and overcharged me. Guess the house won in this case because I got tired of waiting. In my way out I asked someone at the north bar who the manager on duty was so I could let them know what my experience had been. He muttered a name and said he wasn't in yet and went back to slicing fruit. ‍ cool cool cool thank you so much. We've been here many, many times and always had a great experience. George's keep is such an amazing hidden gem! It has a speakeasy feel very moody and dark. The music is always great. They have the best whiskey sour and egg white! The only downside is they are very packed after 1030 which makes it difficult to find a seat. The mixologist are majority male which makes it very difficult for a guy to get a drink. I have been there multiple times with my boyfriend and it always takes forever for him to get a drink. This particular night we got there at 8pm wasn't busy and it still took him a long time to get service. Cool place but service might take awhile. read more

I can not even explain the experience we had! We had dinner below at Uni-Ko it was incredible! After dinner we came upstairs and o have a drink at George's Keep... my second time. My gist time here wasn't great, actually pretty bad was hoping for better this time. Hate to say this time was even worse. After sitting for 15 minutes waiting to order a drink with no acknowledgmen, my husband walked up to the front bar where a couple bartenders were making drinks... he asked if we could get two drinks (glasses of wine) the bartender replied "NO" my husband laughed thinking it was a joke and asked again the child behind the bar told him no again and said old him to go upstairs or leave. So we left as we walked out the door he laughed. As a travel advisor have to say there is no way I would suggest this place to any of my clients. Very great cocktails and knowledgeable staff with good recommendations. Not gunna lie it's a lil douchey(sp?) but so is the whole beautiful soulless development inwhich it lies. Even with all the liquor they have a great beer selection and good happy hour. I had a Manhattan made with port and it was Delilah. The wife loved her so fresh and so clean. She rarely gets more than one of the same cocktail but prolly would have enough of these to drink till she dies - luckily it hasn't come to that. Inside is pretty cosy and classy with two bars. The cocktails aren't super quick because they are very precisely made and delicious. I really like the outdoor patio - it is spacious and I like that it is high up above the restaurants. A lot of people I like really like this place, my wife loves it, and it is great for the area so I will definitely be back. read more

Tucked in the corner of the main staircase leading up to the Eilan Resort sits this cool bar. They have happy hour 7 days a week and their drink specials are actually pretty good! The ambiance makes me think of a speakeasy from prohibition. The cocktails are really good, the bartenders/mixologists are quality and friendly. Beer selection is meh, wine selection is okay, but the cocktails are worth driving a bit out of the way for. One thing to note is that this bar does not serve any food at all. Went on a Thursday night about 9:30. The place has a mix of people from different backgrounds and dress. Very nice inside, but the DJ they had played the music so loud you almost had to shout to talk to your date or the bartenders. We finally had to sit outside in the humidity to talk. We only had one drink and left. The place is too small and subtle decor to have music so loud you would think you're in a dance night club (but there's no dance floor). The place is a cozy setup to feel like an upscale tavern/bar. Management needs to decide if they want to facilitate patron conversation or be a night club without a dance floor. read more

Oh George's. Probably one of the coolest bars San Antonio has to offer, and very speakeasy style. But with everything great comes a price. George's is not for someone that wants cheap drinks. But I can honestly say that the drinks are made well and worth the extra cash spent to get one. All of the bar tenders are excellent and very compassionate people. They have happy hour on sundays and mondays as well as drink specials throughout the week that I recommend taking full advantage of. Only been here after midnight. In my four or five appearances here, I can recount a nearly identical scene every time: Bouncers guarded the noisy crowd on the landing/patio set halfway up the grand Eilan staircase, but really there was no line. People out here were mostly standing, smoking, laughing, soaking up the fresh air. Because beyond the tucked-away door things were not so breezy. Three steps down from the entrance I entered a room that seemed cool, clean, white and green. A small bar with some booths beyond, I could have imagined this as cozy old-school luncheonette, if the lights weren't so dim and everybody wasn't so loud and drunk. The mass of bodies piled in closer and closer as we approached the belly of the beast. The back room, another few steps down, with a center island bar, seemed like the pulsing heart of George's Keep. There was no way to navigate without brushing close against strangers. This room was even darker, and had an orange glow. Crowded booths and rows of people encircled sweaty bartenders who worked furiously, and had to, because patrons yelped and barked like dogs vying for attention. Clearly swanky, but a little too chaotic to be classy, partyers dressed up here. Frankly, people looked rich here. And maybe that's why the prices were so high, because people came to impress and be impressed. read more

Upon entering George's Keep I was brought back to a nautical den like feeling with family photos displayed around the bar. There is no waiter service so you are in charge of seating, and retrieving/returning your glass. I had ordered the Latin Lover, the taste to the pallet was minty and had nice kick to go along from the distilled sugar cane liquor. What tossed it off was the cream in my opinion. This is not why I rank my experience 3/5. Usually one bartender but we always gotten good service,they have old paintings on the wall with old fashion wall light fixtures,lighting is dim and the music which I think is played depending on the crowd cause we been here when they are playing blues,jazz,classic music or contemporary rock even 90s music and if there's small crowd they keep the music low so you can have a decent conversation,but if the crowd is big which means it going to be loud then the music is raised a little bit but not to too much. Aww George's Keep...such a secret hide away, very hidden and almost secluded. It can be hard to find if you've never been, but then again you may not want to share where it's at and would like to keep this place to yourself. Located on the 2nd floor, this place will throw you back in time. Although it's on the 2nd floor, once you enter, it appears as though you could possibly in the basement somewhere. They have booths, tables and of course bar stools at the bar, take your pick. The bartender took her time to make my drink, took her time in a good way. These drinks aren't just mixed and thrown at you. The mix was perfected by an expert. I had an old fashioned and this drink, not much in quantity but definitely in quality, packed a mighty punch. This drink is one to sip and perhaps marinate on your palate for a bit. It's quite the sophisticated cocktail. You should try it. The Northwest Side was on the other side of the drinking spectrum. Tastefully crisp and light with that cucumber zing. I enjoyed that drink as well.
