Something's going on at George's. We are longtime customers who have enjoyed the food, country diner ambiance, the friendliness and professionalism of wait staff of this local diner. Today, however, for the second time in recent history, as we ate our meal, we were been surprised and disappointed not being greeted, seeing so many uncleared tables that remained uncleared with wait servers appearing not to noticel, and floors looking grungy. We visit Center Harbor often, but had not heard of George's diner before. A neighbor told us about it and we tried it. Great place, food, and service. The staff was efficient and courteous. The food was excellent including homemade corned beef hash. Great new find for us. read more

For basic diner food, George's cannot be beat. We've tried most of the menu items at this point in time, and everything has been good. The food is made from scratch, and very tasty. There is nothing fancy about this place, but if you are looking for good food, and service without a flourish, you wlll find it here. Note that George's can get quite busy during peak hours, especially during the summer. They will not seat until your entire party is present. read more

This was one of two diners my hubby and I visited during a trip to Weirs Beach (the other being the Union Diner in Laconia.) George's was ok, but we liked the Union Diner better. First of all, there weren't that many choices for breakfast. I ordered a breakfast wrap off the specials board, and it came with home fries, which were just ok. Hubby wanted french toast, but he was concerned because the menu indicated an additional charge for maple syrup. I surmised that this might be for genuine syrup, which I knew he probably wouldn't like, anyway (he's weird like that) so he stuck with eggs and toast. I'm sure that, like any other diner, they will put together whatever combo of eggs, meat, toast, and/or potatoes that you desire. But the choices aren't spelled out well on the menu, and the prices were higher than average for such fare. Not bad, but not worth going out of your way. read more

The food was great, and reasonably priced. We were surprised to be told by the waitress that no vegetable or potato came with the baked fish meal. Only potato chips came with the meal and there was an additional two dollar charge for fries. The waitress was very inexperienced and never asked if I wanted more fried chicken, although it was an all you can eat special. We would try the restaurant again when in the area, but hopefully the waitress would be better trained. Walked into the place it looked quaint on the outside, as soon as we came in hungover as we were there was an overwhelming stench of bleach. There were waitresses on duty and neither seemed to acknowledge our presence the whole 10 minutes we were sitting in at our tables. People who walked in after us got service before us. Pricey!! I went here with my two kids, and even though they ordered off of the children's menu, the bill still came to almost $30! Anything "healthy" on their menu is expensive ($9 for a chef salad...I was shocked!), and the fries that came with the kid's meals were very greasy (even for a diner) and soggy. It's been my experience that some of the best comfort food can be found in unassuming, lowbrow restaurants. Alas, George's Diner didn't offer that experience. Signed up for a Yelp! account just to write this review. We have been to George's before and have had a decent meal - typical diner food. That is what we were expecting, however we made the bad decision of going there on a Friday night. On Friday nights there is ALL YOU CAN EAT fish and and a limited other menu. We were wary to begin with but as we had eaten here prior and had a good experience we decided to proceed. First off the cheapest thing on the "special" menu is over $10 for chicken tenders. The available side items include beets, stewed tomatoes and squash. But as we had decent fried seafood here prior we ordered. Big mistake. The "Sirloin" was a pan-fried, fatty, strip steak devoid of flavor. The $18 fried shrimp plate came with FOUR previously frozen fried shrimp that were smaller than the shrimp you find in a shrimp cocktail. The fried scallops were more plentiful (also $18 a plate) however tastes as though they lived in the freezer for too long and required a knife to cut. My daughters fried fish was actually borderline excellent, which implies that the only goal on Friday night is to pack in the customers as tight as possible, and serve them fried fish all night. And packed in we were - even sitting on the patio left us with claustrophobia. The total for three adults and a child that night (without tip) was $72. We may visit George's again in the future, however it WILL NOT be on a Friday night. George's needs to remember that they are a diner and as such people expect good (albeit greasy!) food at good prices. If the special Friday night menu and subpar food quality continues, George's may find itself in a big hole to dig itself out of. read more

Visited here over bike week. There was a steady flow of people coming through and they seemed ready to handle this. The service was prompt, casual and attentive. I had the house special with wheat toast. The eggs were cooked just right (over easy) , the bacon was crisp but not brittle, home fries had a little firmnes and were tasty, sausage had nice flavor and the hash I got was very tasty. It had a nice crispy outside and nice pieces of corned beef inside that were still moist and flavorful. I could have used a slightly bigger portion of the hash, but it was good and tasty. The funny thing was the wheat toast. It was awesome. Thick slice of an airy mouth watering piece of wheat toast, I can't get over how much I enjoyed it. I wish more places had bread like this. Overall , they were serving delicious food at a very fair price and they were kind and attentive. Would definitely recommend. read more

On vacation with family and stopped in after reading reviews. I love greasy spoon diners and this place fit the bill. I went early bc I had kids and didn't want to wait. Everybody in there was a local and they were all chatting with each other. Love it! The breakfasts were really good. Husband had hash and eggs and I had an omelette. Both excellent and the homemade raisin bread was amazing. Another note: My coffee was always full which is important to me. As we were leaving one of the patrons came over and said how well behaved my kids were and asked them their ages. It was my sons birthday so he said " today I am 9 yrs old". Then the patron tells the whole diner and they all proceed to sing happy birthday. A nice gesture and I will be back again when in the area. read more

It was our anniversary and I wanted to go for clams. My wife ordered the turkey sandwich. Always herd good about George's. We put are order In and in about five minutes are food was ready. Well a little to quick my clams weren't cooked right soggy with oil not crisp at all. Fries same way limp loaded with oil. My wife's sandwich was crumbly pieces of turkey. I don't cook for a living but I know when food is cooked right. It's a shame a professional cook would send out food he knows isn't right. read more

My boyfriend and I went there in the spring of 2015, and were double charged for our breakfast! We order just a normal amount of food (two meals, coffee, and juice) and ended up spening $40?! Two people cannot spend $40 at a diner! Sorry for not leaving a tip, but you were awful. read more

First time for Dad and I. Had simple breakfast eggs home fries etc. Very nice homemade food and waitress excellent service.

At the counter, we were ignored by the waitstaff, and had to vocally request menus after 10 minutes of trying to attract attention. We also had to make an effort to get the waitress' attention to order. We noted the order was not put in to the cook for several minutes. About 20-25 minutes expired from arrival to receiving the order. Prices seemed high - $20 for omelet, coffee, pancakes and sausage. The food was OK, but for $20 and the aggravation, there are plenty of better places in Meredith and Center Harbor where I have had better. read more

To be fair, I have eaten at George's many times and the food has always been good. I don't understand what happened on this visit, but it was the worst restaurant meal I have had that I can remember. I ordered the chicken pot pie. It seriously lacked salt. Once I salted it, it tasted fine. It really wasn't a pie. It was pot pie filling in a casserole dish with a disc of puff pastry on top. I was expecting a pie, so I was disappointed. There were also a couple of bone shards and a knuckle joint in the mixture. Proof, I guess, that it's homemade, but the kitchen should pay better attention. My husband's meal however, was horrible! He ordered the BBQ plate. He got two pieces of dried out chicken,some pork slices, and an over cooked beef sparerib, all doused with a ketchupy wet BBQ sauce. And by doused, I mean DOUSED! There was so much barbecue sauce the entire meal was inedible. Additionally, the baked beans were cold and mushy and the french fries, while freshly cooked, were over done and unsalted. We overheard a fellow diner complaining about the barbecue sauce as well. Two stars because of the friendly service, although our waitress did not offer to refill our empty iced teas until after the check was delivered. An unexpected and disappointing visit. It will be a while before we return. read more
