It was not busy when we walked in but the wait was still 10 mins. They have some cute T-shirts and a small selection of comic books. I ordered a chocolate malt which was delicious. I came here with 2 other people, so 3 total. We were told a 35 minute wait, no biggie! When we got sat our waitress rarely checked in on us and we waited over 2 hours for our food to come out. It was busy, but not that busy and the other tables around us that got sat after us got their food before us. Perfect travel stop. We've been dieting way too long, and we've started our vacation with some comfort food. Bullseye! Bloody Marys and Mimosas to start. Brioche French toast (licked the plate), veggie burger/onion rings ( had to try the baked beans, too - just like moms!), mac 'n cheese & hot fudge sundae to go. She sat us down and took our drink order...now what a concept taking your drink order and saving some time. Wow. Disappointed. Would give 2-1/2 stars if I could. Where do I start? Thinking because today is a holiday even though tomorrow is officially Veteran's Day, maybe they're just very busy and short-staffed... My omelette was taken by mistake off of the warmer so they had to make a new one. Ok no problem, these things happen. Omelette brought about 10 minutes later without toast. Ugh! Said they'd bring it shortly...about five minutes later... I had cold unbuttered toast brought to the table, buttered it with the cold butter brought for my husband's meal & asked for it to be warmed up so butter would melt. They burned it. Anyway, long story short, meal was comped, we left without me having any toast & left a tip for waitress. I so wanted a good experience like I've had before at their Tilton restaurant. Now we have no place to go for breakfast tomorrow morning lol Regarding the other food... I had the Greek omelette, it was good, home fries were undercooked and average at best. My husband got the meat omelette, it was very small, two chopped up, sausage links, minimal bacon in minimal ham. His toast was cold, too which is why we asked for butter before my meal came. They are busy, but it was worth the wait. (I wasn't in any hurry, and I kinda love the diner vibe to begin with.) They seated me at the counter off to the side in a second room away from the entrance. It was quieter there, and the decor didn't disappoint. I was soon greeted by the area manager who engaged me in polite conversation (I was traveling alone, so this was a welcome touch for me) and then introduced me to my server, Gretchen. I noticed she spoke to every customer in the room, knowing several by name. I appreciated the feeling of community and friendship here. I had stopped in for a late breakfast. As such, I was pretty hungry, so I decided to go with country fried steak. This is NH, and I am from south of the Mason/Dixon line, so I'll be the first to admit it was a risk. I was impressed--from the consistency of the gravy to the seasoning, they are doing it right. The batter was crispy and the portion was huge. I had bacon and home fries (don't judge me for my choice-it's a diner after all), and they offered to add some grilled onions and peppers to the potatoes. Being the self respecting southern woman I am, I gladly accepted. Everything was delicious, and my coffee mug was never empty. Since moving to the area a year ago, I've wanted to eat here, and foliage season seemed like the perfect opportunity to stop by while out for a drive. The main dining room is all done in vintage decor but I requested a booth in the old diner section facing the road. Seeing that we were a little tight, our server offered to ease the booth seat back a little and we were quite comfortable. As you can see from the photos, this is the quintessential diner of old, music and all. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The menu is filled with mouth-watering goodies at every turn of the page. I finally decided on the Philly Cheese Steak omelet and marble rye toast, and of course, I had to try the hand-battered onion rings. This was hands down the best omelet I've ever eaten! Do not waste your time eating at this establishment. This place leave a bad taste in your mouth. Wait before sitting took about 30 minutes which was fine, but they failed to let us know that they were short staffed and that the wait time would take more than an hour with a half full restaurant. Also they were out of potatoes and sour dough bread. Staff did not checkin with us or apologize for the wait the entire time we were seated. Food was okay, but did not make my eggs right. Today my kids and I ate at the 104 diner. We were greeted with a big smile and awesome atmosphere. We sat down and all that changed within minutes. Our waitress was pleasant in a condescending way. The coffee that I heard good things about, well mine was burnt coffee so can't really judge. So I ordered a soda. My son loved his burger and ate it all. My daughter liked the pancakes but only at half. Before all that, just minutes after sitting, my daughter said "dad, it feels weird in here" I agreed with her, the atmosphere had changed drastically from our walk in. As for my meal, the meat omelet fell short with no flavor and lack of cheese. The sour dough was tasteless, dry and cold. However the side of corn beef was great! We have been there before and had a wonderful experience, it is very rare you go anywhere and get bad service and bad food. Talking it up as a bad day. We will give it another go in the future. Traveling North to visit Family and were starving! Hubby loves diners, so we tried the 104 Diner. Glad we did. The wait wasn't too long, hostess was super friendly and got us the seat I had asked for. Our bubbly waitress Krystal came right over and got our attention with her blue hair and load of information. She took our drink order, was back in a flash and then took our order. I had the tuna melt, it was awesome, thick buttery toasted bread with melted cheese and crispy bacon! We tried this place on a recommendation from a local. Big mistake.....so many issues. First, I ordered the Cuban roadster classic. I saw it came with chips and pickles which was good. We were on our way home from an amazing vacation in the beautiful white mountains and we needed food. We stumbled upon this place by accident. Boy am I glad !! From the old fashioned decor, to the amazing pictures painted on the wall. This diner is so special!!! Our server Maryann was a sweetheart & so on point. We watched party after party go ahead of us, after 50 minutes we spoke to one of the waitresses who told us there were 2 more parties ahead of us that had come in after us. The Route 104 Diner (formerly Bobby's Girl Diner) is a 1950s style diner which opened about 7 weeks ago and is now a venture of The Common Man family of restaurants and Plain Jane's Diner of Rumney. This diner is located approximately 2 miles east of I-93 Exit 23 along Route 104 towards Meredith. The front of the diner is an old Worcester style diner with booth and lunch counter seating and main back portion is an attached dining room and kitchen area. The place is decked out in 1950s decor and music playing over the speakers. Old Life Magazine & Saturday Evening Post prints, candy, and Route 104 Diner tees are for sale near the entrance. The menu offers the typical diner fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. See the trial menu with prices at http://www.thecman.com The menu offerings are very similar to The Common Man's other diners: Tilt N Diner (Tilton) and Airport Diner (Manchester). The desserts are identical to other diners including the toll house pie and grasshopper pie. I stopped in here for dessert only since I already had dinner down the road. I walked in on a rainy fall evening and the place was very busy. I walked around to the old portion of the diner and sat at the lunch counter. I ordered the Toll House Pie ($3.99), which was warm up real good and topped with warm chocolate sauce and whipped cream. No vanilla ice cream??? The pie was supposed to come with ice cream as I recalled from having this same treat at the Airport Diner. I informed the waitress and point out the description and yes, vanilla ice cream is served with the pie. The manager dropped off a separate bowl of vanilla ice cream (1 scoop) two minutes later. After that, the toll house pie was pretty good, very rich and dense with lots of chocolate chips in a flaky crust. The Route 104 Diner is now on two of my Yelp lists for convenience. I will definitely return whenever I'm in the area for work or a leisure drive to the Lakes. (Overall 3.5 stars) Please note the diner is closed on Tuesdays during the winter.
