In the lakes region area, this is the best breakfast I have had. There's flavor and unique-ness to the food. A simple plate of French toast or pancakes has you wanting to finish the plate. You can tell it's just more than your average breakfast place's toast dipped in egg or a quick batter whipped up without any thought. I can say this for the rest of their menu as well. The service isn't overbearing, they hear your loud and clear. Although they are short and simple, they are respectful at the same time. They get your food in quickly, it comes out quickly, and they give you your check quickly while telling you to take your time. If you're in the area and need a quick, but worth your time, breakfast, I would highly recommend Gilly's, without a doubt. Can't forget about the prices. Gilly's is always my go to in Bristol no matter what. The food is ALWAYS great and comes out just as quick as it takes you to browse the menu. The one lovely lady that cooks 90% of the time (mostly by herself) is still more then happy to pop her head out and say hello to the regulars, let alone the servers who remember you're order and asks you if you want your usual is comforting. I never once had to ask for a refill on hot coffee--a must in a diner setting. The corned beef hash was served in an almost patty form, with a great crust from the flat top holding it together. The home fries were cooked and seasoned very well. A large, fluffy pancake served on the side rounded off a great (and huge) breakfast. We were in visiting our daughters. They insisted that we eat breakfast here before going home. We got here a little before 7. Our server was quite welcoming as she handed us our menus. The food was good and the portions were too. We had the omelette (spinach, tomato and feta) and the Irish Benedict. Both were quite tasty although the yolk on the poached eggs were cooked pretty hard and I prefer a runny egg for a Benedict. Our server knew we were headed out to catch a flight so she made sure we got our food and check quickly. I'm glad we got up early to include breakfast at Gilly's before we left. read more

Another satisfied out-of-towner! We stumbled in with a large group and they all seemed so happy to see us. We quickly got served coffee and it was fantastic. The prices almost seemed like a mistake, it feels like everything should cost at least 50% more! I had an omelet, which I couldn't have been happier with. You can tell when you're getting fresh ingredients. A lot of breakfast places treat the home fries as an afterthought, but these were outstanding. My girlfriend got strawberry pancakes...two giant pancakes for under $3 is unbelievable, and they were delicious! I also had the chance to taste the french toast, which might have been the best thing of all. If I came back to Bristol I would look forward to coming here again. read more

It looked like a little house, and it probably was, because almost every business in the area, was in what was once a house! Overall I was not a fan. I do not understand why this has very good reviews on Yelp. The food is not interesting, or particularly good. The people eating here looked happy, however. The wait staff was pleasant but glacially slow bringing menus (I eventually got them myself) and taking our order. The food was basic average diner fare. Wonderful! We visit Gilly's every year on vacation. Breakfast is very good and cheap too'!! Seat yourself when you walk in, if you can find a seat (it is usually packed). Staff is friendly and all the locals come. Huge variety on the menu to choose from. Homemade pancakes are enormous and delicious! I was so excited about the parfait they had for a summer special - it sounded delicious! Unfortunately, they were all out so I wasn't able to try. Because the dining area is so small, it gets a bit noisy in there when there are a lot of kids. Would definitely recommend Gilly's!! P.S. They do not accept credit cards, cash only. My husband and I have been to Gillys several times for breakfast. Each time we've really enjoyed our meals. This morning I had the banana stuffed French toast and it was delicious with plenty of cinnamon. It came with a side of breakfast meat and the bacon I ordered was cooked crisp just the way I liked it! My husband had a meat lover's omelet that he really enjoyed. Single stack is really like having four. They say breakfast is the hardest meal to do well especially eggs. We visit Gilly's every time we go to Newfound Lake, which is several times a year. It's an awesome hometown restaurant, and it's no wonder it's been around for a while. The place itself is tiny, but that adds to the charm. The waitresses are very friendly, and the food always comes out quickly. Make sure you buy a Gilly's mug when you go! The food is delicious -- it tastes so fresh -- you can tell there are a couple of cooks back in the kitchen making your food as soon as you order it. I love how they don't overcook the bacon. The eggs aren't greasy like a lot of breakfast places. Oh, and pumpernickle toast?? Yes, please! The pancakes are light and fluffy, and I love how they always have a ton of different flavors of jelly right there on the table. And the best part is that you get a ton of food without spending a lot of $$. I feel really good about supporting this local business...they really do a great job. I think the only negative thing is that they don't take credit cards...so be prepared when you go. They do have an ATM right across the street though. read more
