I came to Tilt'n Diner with a group after a day of intense hiking... needless to say, we were quite hungry. I'm pretty sure anything would have tasted delicious at that point, but this meal really did hit the spot. I went with the Hash 'N Eggs, which was nice and hearty, and everyone else enjoyed their meals too. The service was solid, what you'd expect from a classic diner. It took me back to my home state of New Jersey. If you have room at the end of the meal, go for some pie. I'd happily go back! read more

We headed to Tilt'n Diner early in the morning after a sunrise hike, and the breakfast food was a much needed reward and refuel. I got an iced coffee which was just what I needed. I had the eggs Benedict with hash instead of Canadian bacon which was really good! The eggs were slightly overcooked, but the home fries and hollandaise were great. And the portion size was huge. The side of bacon was also delicious. I think the best thing at the table was the baked beans and breakfast burrito which was truly the star! I think if I went back, I'd get this. Our waitress, Liz, was super friendly and was easy to joke with. She was attentive with grabbing drink & food orders, food orders arrived promptly and wow!! Everything was delicious! The tables were clean and not tacky. The floors were not that way,Very tacky. A neat touristy kinda place you can buy their coffee mug, T-shirt, Maple syrup yummies. My husband and I treated our son-in-law and three granddaughters to a dinner out tonight, while my daughter is out of town. Service at the Tilt'n Diner was excellent! Our food was good, and the only complaint was handled promptly (our son-in-law and hubby had ordered the cheese sticks appetizer and had to ask the kitchen to remake them as most all the cheese had cooked out of them.) The second order of cheese sticks came out great! My husband, son-in-law, and me, all each got the Shephard's Pie, which was delicious. I am just not a big corn eater so I pushed most of those aside. Our eldest granddaughter got an adult order of spaghetti and ate about 2/3 of it. I don't think she liked the sauce, because she kept going for more of the plain noodles. She also did not want to bring the rest home. The youngest granddaughters (twins), had a chocolate shake first and that was our mistake. Then they only ate about half their meal. A kids portion of chicken tenders with fries and cheeseburger and fries. We brought the rest of those two meals home. I'll post a couple of pics. read more

This is exactly what you'd expect from a diner. The staff are pleasant and professional without being intrusive. I had liver and onions and it was cooked perfectly. Let me start this by saying I'm from New Jersey. So when you put the word "diner" in your name, that comes with certain, let's say, baggage. Because while Tilt'n is on the side of a highway (box checked), it is not, in my humble opinion, a diner. New Englanders have this obsession with diners having counter seating and I don't know what magazines they've been reading, but that's tourist nonsense right there. The main requirements of a diner are 24-hour greek omelettes, ageless cakes in cloches and grease. Oh, and quality. Grease, Tilt'n has. Quality? Ehhhh. One kind of infuriating thing about this place is that it's the temperature of the inside of a fridge every day of every season. Seriously, I feel like this place must be run by reptiles because I needed a jacket in summer. In general Tilt'n tries to do everything and nails basically none of it. It's the common Common Man problem - they try to accommodate everyone and everything ends up a bit homogeneous. It's very chain restaurant in that way. I can have my lobster roll and pancakes, but when I do, I realize that maybe there's such a thing as too much freedom. read more

Had breakfast this morning with two friends. Two of us ordered "over easy" eggs with home fries and the third person ordered the Benedict. The eggs were all very much overcooked, more hard boiled than over easy, and what few home fries they put on the plate were cold and soggy. I also had ham. As was the case with the home fries, the portion size was a joke. Apparently the owners have concluded that they can serve sub par food, quantity and, especially quality, and their customers are so stupid they will accept this without a complaint, Noticing that some people have rated this place above two stars apparently helps them justify this opinion. My advice, go next door to the gas station and get better value, and probably better food, that at the Tilton Diner. read more

What a lovely theme. A great place for just hopping round' Laconia. The 50s theme hits, decorations to food and outfits. It's a wonderful setting and the place is also clean, plus colorful. Thumbs up to David, the manager, he was very patient with us and I know my party was a bit rowdy and impatient. Please expect a waiting time, it's very crowded. Usually you'll have to stall in your car or in the diner for 15-25 minutes, an estimate. Parking lots pretty big though, so you won't have a problem looking for a spot. The menu is big, and of course, has 50s food. I'm pretty sure some of it is New England food but I may be wrong. Food was fairly priced, dare I say cheap. I got my money's worth. The dishes tasted fresh and delicious, very warm and hearty on cold day. The food's also light in my opinion so I had some room for dessert. They sure do have very unique menu items here, for i've never had a grapefruit custard before. It was refreshing and bouncy, super yummy. The grasshopper pie isn't what you think. Please don't laugh at that. Overall, I had a great time. Portions are decent but some of them could use a pal or two to share with. Delightful old time dinner in one odd the busiest highway corridors in the state. Entering here is going on a beautiful time warp. We sat down to the Crystal's "And then He Missed Me" and continued with Peter Paul and Mary. As good an ambiance as I expected and even more. Our service person was superb. She acknowledged the iced tea was bland and rapidly brought us substitutes. I had the chicken tacos and they were really good, I must note that these are quite Americanized and made with chicken tenders. My husband had the turkey club and was also quite good. Stopped here on our way to Woodstock New Hampshire for lunch. We decided on sharing two appetizers. I ordered the meatballs and my wife ordered the sampler player. Let me trr we ll you these meatballs were topped with a slice of salami and melted cheese and were probably the best meatballs I've ever had. They were so tender. Horrible experience. The waitress took forever to get to us and had an horrific attitude. We must of waited 45 mins for our food to get out to us and it was under cooked and very basic. Even the bacon tasted like dried up jerky. Our drinks were horrible bc the orange juice was ridiculously watered down. Even after all that , the most horrible part was their bathrooms. We stop here on our annual trip to Lincoln NH. We love the throwback decor and home cooked meals that are classic American food. The service is always friendly and the kitchen is always quick to deliver our meals. They serve breakfast all day and have a great kids menu too. The appetizer portions are very small for the price. $10.99 for 4 very small pot skins. Then $10.99 for 4.5 pieces of very very small tenders. Kids meal is $7.99 with 6 pieces same size with fries. Well then I still had to wait for the food that they had 30 minutes to cook. They didn't even put a rush order on it. So no rush order on the meals she forgot to put in. No apologize. Just oh well. When I call and speak to a manager about an issue with a bill that was charged i told him about the issues we had. Do you think they even cared enough to apologize. Nope not at all. Maybe we just have higher standards and we believe in customer service. We don't believe treating customers as nothing. They treat people as they don't really care about them spending money at their restaurants. Went on 8/13 before a concert. There was 4 of us. I ordered the veggie burger. It's not just that it didn't taste great- I've eaten many veggie burgers like that. Throw on some more ketchup, maybe more salt and pepper. But this-was inedible. It had such a horrible taste and after taste. 3 bites and I couldn't do any more. My husband got the pulled pork. When you picture pulled pork, you think juicy....puled high, moist. It was none of that. There was hardly any pork on the sandwich and it was dry. I specifically asked if the fries were hand cut. If they weren't, I was going to get a different side. The waitress assured me that they were indeed hand cut. They were NOT. Our friends food- just as undesirable. Grilled chicken patty -per my friend- fry, tasteless. Oh! And I ordered a large salad as a starter for my husband and I to share. It was delivered the same time as the other food. We couldn't eat it because there was no room on the table. We always go here before concerts... but we have finally given up on the diner, since the previous visit was mediocre. $80 bill. And only 1 of us had a soda and I had a coffee. All other drinks were water. No dessert. We were so disgusted. I used to go here every once in awhile but it has been years. At least 15 years since I have been. Yeah, I'm old. Lol. Today, though, we found ourselves in the area and decided to stop in. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait but it was only about 5 when my phone buzzed letting us know our table was ready. We were seated and greeted by a very friendly waitress. She took our drink orders and returned soon after for our orders. It is quite loud and very busy, but has a fun atmosphere. Portions are huge here and the food is mostly homemade. I had the turkey dinner which was delicious. My dad joined me on that. My uncle had breakfast and my aunt had chicken fried steak. Mom had tenders. Everyone loved their food. Not much has changed here. The food is still very good and it's as busy as ever. The prices are reasonable, too. Come hungry! read more

A must-go if you're in the area! Stopped in on the way to a Waterville trip and would go out of my way to come back. You're met with old time magazines you can purchase on the way in, and we were seated right away. I enjoyed a French vanilla adult iced coffee and it was delicious. Went with the special blt chicken Cesar wrap with homemade onion rings. Other guests got the breakfast country fried steak, the Rueben with fries, and the grilled cheese with ham and sweet potato fries. The food was simple but delicious and helpings were very generous. This was probably my least favorite meal I've had at any of the common man diner locations. The waitress was short and seemed like she really didn't want to be there. I understand this may not be the norm for her and can empathize and understand that everyone has an off day at work so her behavior is not the sole reason for my two star review. The food was just not good. The gravy fries had a very congealed and lumpy gravy on top. Not only did it look totally unappetizing, they tasted awful. I ordered the Thanksgiving style sandwich with cranberry mayo on the side. The sandwich was served with the mayo all over it. The waitress didn't come back to check in so I scraped it off and tried my best to ignore it being there. I wasn't a fan of the mayo at all. The onion rings were lacking in flavor. We were visiting from Montreal, Canada and stopped here for lunch before shopping at the outlets. Convenient if you are planning on shopping nearby but otherwise this location is pretty far from the other touristy spots. It was out first time eating a classic American diner - loved the old school retro vibe, overall look and feel of the place and large menu offerings. The service was great, our waitress was super friendly and upbeat. We got the roast beef and monte cristo sandwiches. Without seing a picture, I thought the portion would be small but these were enormous - very generous portion and meat filling. I just wish they came with regular french fries instead of homemade chips. The fries or any other sides you may want to swap out with come with an extra charge. We also ordered chocolate milk and didn't realise this would be just regular milk with Hersey's chocolate syrup swirled in - not exactly what we wanted. With the menu being so big and so many drink options, I would definitely recommend asking for suggestions or greaty clarity on what the food/portions may look like. I have been enjoying the Tilton Diner for many years but after this morning may not return. I'll break this into the 3 categories listed. 1. Food, I had biscuits and gravy. The biscuits are not what I remember and quite honestly they suck. An English muffin would of been better. The potato's were cold and the gravy marginal. All for $ 15.00, you've got to be kidding me, what a rip off compared to other local restaurants. 2. Service, Jess was our server and did a great job. 3. Ambiance, I expect a restaurant atmosphere and enjoy it. What I didn't enjoy was the idiot at the counter making Dr's appointments over his speaker phone and then settling down to eat his breakfast while watching Judge Judy on his cell phone. He was annoying to several diners and didn't care. I complained to Jess but she did nothing about it. I can't believe how rude and disrespectful some people are. We all heard about his medical appointment as he was using his speaker phone at the counter. He even got up and went to the rest room while Judge Judy was on. Stopped by the Tilt'n Diner after riding the train- it was a wonderful experience! Food was very tasty. My husband and I both ordered burgers; the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings for me and he got the patty melt with potato chips made in house. (Burgers here are smash burgers) Our waitress was the famous Gabriella, who was very attentive! Staff there was awesome- counter staff was very patient with some tourists who were not familiar with Americana food. Definitely a place we will stop for again next time we are in the region! read more

Solid 3 star diner - the hits were hits, the misses were misses and there wasn't a lot in between. We came around 11:15 on a Saturday morning. We walked in as the hostess, Jess, was seating a few other people. We asked what the wait was for 2, she said 35 mins. This was surprising since there were several of empty tables and open spots at the counter. I asked if we could sit at the counter and was met with a condescending, "Those are also wait list, my friend." Fortunately, counter seating opened up about 20 mins into our 35 min wait which was great because we were starving. We sat at the counter for about 15 minutes without any acknowledgement from anyone. Finally August came to take our drink order and about 5 minutes after that, Joni came by to take our order. She wasn't overly friendly, but took our order promptly and then vanished to the other side of the diner not to be seen again until our food was delivered. The food portions were large and the taste was great. The fries were crispy. I was mildly annoyed there's an upcharge for fries which is a pretty standard diner item. The chicken fried steak and eggs was a huge portion and thick. Despite being busy, Joni checked back in with us and got me more mustard and pickles, refilled my drink, and got us the check promptly. The place needs more servers for sure: it's pretty frustrating to be hungry and see empty tables, but still have to wait. Overall it was good food, but a less than pleasant experience. I came here with my mom on a road trip to the white mountains and this diner caught my eye when looking for a place to stop. It's cute and laid-back. It's right off the side of the highway so easy access and easy parking. The inside of the diner really brings you back a couple decades. The staff were so friendly and so welcoming and we had a great brunch here. We both got omelettes and they were massive and well-made. The toast and fresh fruit were also delicious. Coffee wasn't a strong as I like but I'm coming from Seattle, so I know not everyone likes super dark coffee. Nevertheless, the coffee kept flowing. Prices are so reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I would definitely make a stop here again. read more
