After hearing so many amazing things about the Soda Shoppe I made my way today for lunch. It was not very busy but the servers seemed stressed. One staff sever spoke so loud every word was heard even across the restaurant. The restaurant had a katchup smell to it, kinda weird. We ordered fish chowder that had no taste. My smothered chicken also was not my favorite, the cheese was burnt and the veggies tasted like they were a bit old. This is really disappointing because I heard so many great things. I will try breakfast but my expectations will be extremely high! Let's see if they can hit the target. read more

Wood paneling and drop ceiling. Even a delightfully pleasant and attentive server with a neat bob calling us "hun". On a weekday morning we were by far the youngest (mid-30s) people saddling up for a mid-morning meal, but what a delight it was to eavesdrop on some delightful local gossip. When you're ready to settle, take your check on up to the cash register near the front. Parking was a snap due to a public garage just around the corner. This is a quaint neighborhood diner with an old fashioned flare. Service was prompt and polite, the food was great. The burgers were perfect, tuna sandwich was generous, and I had the best Ruben I've ever had. Prices were fair too. We all loved the fries. read more

This restaurant used to be my favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm talking about from when I was a kid. Ever since the new owners have taken over, it has changed for the worse. They are unprofessional and don't know what they're doing (unsure of how to cook certain items, yelling at each other, rude/unfriendly waitstaff). They have taken the very popular corn chowder (which was the best in the Lakes Region in my opinion) off the menu. Wait times are ridiculous. It's a shame, I really miss the old Soda Shoppe. They might as well change the name because it is NOT the same restaurant. read more

Absolutely disgusting food. Even the food served to prisoners probably would taste better that the so called buffalo chicken sandwich I ordered. It was literally a thawed frozen misc chicken parts patty with franks buffalo sauce on it served soggy and luke warm on a cheap burger bun. You would think they would at least have served a real chicken breast on there for 8 bucks. We ended up returning the food and going to eat elsewhere. read more

This is such a cute place (diner or coffee shop style) with great food and very nice employees! We had the corn chowder, kids mini cheeseburgers, chef salad, and a tuna melt - everyone was happy with their meal! We then went back a second time - the patty melt was excellent and my husband had an Italian sausage sandwich that he said was great. Next time will come back for ice cream too! I went to the Soda Shoppe for lunch once last week and once the week before. I wish there was a 3 1/2 stars option in Yelp because I think the Soda Shoppe is slightly better than 3 stars but not really at 4. The service is quick and the wait staff is willing to hand out seperate checks for your party without any hassle at all. The menu is typical of a diner and they serve breakfast all day. We waited about 35 mins to get our food service was so slow didn't like it at all was honestly tempted to get up and leave message to management pleas step it up with customer service lady who brought food didn't really care about the wait and was like oh sorry. Been in Laconia for five days now. Been to 4 other breakfast establishments and by far this has been the best. It was clean food was piping hot and my server Holly was full of smiles, attentive and seemed happy to be trere. I will be back every morning for the rest of my time in Laconia. I would not even give this one star. I have been coming here on and off for years. Today I called to order food for take out, they said 15 minutes but I gave them 20 just in case. I get in there and only one waitress is on, and she seemed overwhelmed. I asked about my take out and she said she still needed to make my frappe and dessert but it would only take a few minutes. I gave her the benefit of the doubt because there were a few tables, she then goes and helps every other guest. She then starts crying in the dining room and goes out back for about 5 minutes, when she comes out she continues to serve everyone else and doesn't acknowledge me until I asked again about my food. I waited in the restaurant for 25 minutes. My salad with fried chicken was sitting in the window the entire time, to the point the chicken was cold when I went to eat it. The extra thick frappe was more milk than ice cream and I didn't get my dessert (Which I had paid for already)because I had already waited too long and my lunch break was almost over. I should also mention I called in my order at 2:22 went at 2:40pm and left at 3:10. I was not given a refund for the dessert that was paid for and not made. I call back after taking a few bites and asked to speak to a manager. I was told there was no manager in and the manager wouldn't be back until maybe 6pm. I walked back over to see if the waitress could do anything, she told me she "couldn't do anything, I've only worked here a month and have no idea what I'm doing and I'm by myself" Not only was this not good service but this is also poor management/staffing. read more

This is always my favorite place to go for breakfast when I come to Laconia, however today's visit was the worst experience ever. First we waited just about 45 minutes for our food which really wasn't the problem. We understand, it was busy. The waitress never came over to offer more coffee or to apologize for the wait. We sat for 20 minutes or so with empty coffee cups and she walked by us several times. Then the food came and my order was incorrect. She apologized that she had mistakenly put it in wrong. My husband had finished eating before I had gotten my breakfast. Dissatisfied and disappointed to say the least! Then to aggravate the situation a bit more, the waitress was at the cash register cashing out another patron and we were waiting to cash out our bill and she just walked away! Wouldn't look at us! We had to wait for someone else to cash us out.. Worse experience ever! Not sure we will be back!! read more

Three words: Banana Pancakes (and) homefries. If you're a Lakes Region local who ventures away from home, you've almost certainly been here. Everyone loves it. Went here for dinner with some local family. The decor is really the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars. I wasn't expecting fancy but the wood chairs are peeling/splintering and need to be replaced. The server was very nice and speedy. Out of 4 of us everyone loved their food. If I could give it less than one, I would have. This place was filthy and the food was bad. There were flies around our table the entire time. I went with my family and the only thing that was decent were the French fries. I had an open face roast beef sandwhich. The bread wasn't toasted, the roast beef was cold and salty and the corn was cold also. I remember visiting this place when I was a kid in the late 70's. I went here a couple of weeks ago with a friend for lunch on a Friday. The special was a clam roll for $7.99. It was the best clam roll I could ever remember eating. It was packed full of whole belly clams on a grilled roll. The onion rings were fabulous as well. The fish chowder was a little sub-par but I can overlook that. No better bang for the buck. I want to give major kudos to the Soda Shoppe in Laconia NH and to Mike....We challenged him with something he had never done with something he was great at. We asked him to cater our daughter's wedding and she want breakfast for dinner.... He is an expert at breakfast and he never catered a wedding before. Results.... well let me take a step back . The Soda Shoppe is across the street from the venue where the reception was. Mike promised us fresh foods even calling over to his restaurant to cook more hash browns or biscuits and gravy bacon or sausage... which he delivered and all of which is delicious in spite of the severe thunder and lightening storm that occurred when dinner was supposed to be served.
