After Veanos II closed on Manchester St in Concord, one of my former lunch spots, I was left without a place where I could get fresh cooked filling Italian lunch specials quickly (25 minute lunch) at reasonable prices. Another place with a very similar name in Pembroke was not as quick and I needed a good hour minimum there for lunch. Fast forward to October 2022, Veanos II has sort of returned, but as Beanie's Bar & Grill which opened over the weekend in the former Hungry Buffalo in Loudon. This restaurant and bar is owned and operated by the Georgopoulos family, who also owned Veanos II. The food menu offers typical pub fare with some of Veanos II menu items such as the sandwiches, homemade pasta salad, cole slaw, seafood dishes, and a few pasta dishes. They do not have pizza and pressure cooked chicken like they did before due to space. I stopped in here recently for dinner and the place was quite busy. I spotted an open table near the pool table room and sat down across the room from the busy bar. The server arrived in about 5 minutes after I sat down to take my order. Since George was cooking in the kitchen, I decided to order for the Spaghetti & Meatballs ($13 plus tax) served with a side salad and hot garlic bread. I would order this often at Veanos II. The salad (chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, & carrot) with thick dressing on the side and the thick buttery slices (3) of hot garlic bread came out first with my ice water. About 10 minutes later, the big dish of Spaghetti & Meatballs came out, soft cooked spaghetti topped with their thick & chunky red sauce with 3 firm homemade meatballs. Their sauce is very hearty with sweet and tart flavors. I finished everything, but I was stuffed, so no dessert (ice cream or cake) on this visit.. Overall, the food here was very good with the atmosphere of a loud locals bar. There are very few places in Loudon to have a sitdown dinner with drinks other than the restaurant/bar at the local country club, a pizza place, and now Beanie's Bar & Grill taking over the former Hungry Buffalo.

Really, really wanted to love this local joint BUT after several disappointing experiences I think we are gonna call it. Server removed dirty dishes so we could sit down but never cleaned the table. I unwrapped my silverware to use my napkin to wipe down the table to be grossed out by the sticky state of the utensils. We tried the corn chowder, a special, with zero flavor and an unpleasant texture, discovered only after I had to request a clean soup spoon because mine was even nastier than my fork and knife. Hmm, why not just leave at this point? We really want them to succeed! So we ordered a round of poppers that were nicely breaded and crispy but tasted like cardboard. Thought we'd also share the fly floating in our water just for fun. The beer was nice and cold, which warrants two stars.

What used to be a sketchy area is now filled with boutique shops, bustling businesses of tech and industry, arts, culture, and restaurants. One such upscale craft cocktail bar is Wolf Tree. If you didn't know it, you might feel as if you'd stepped into a hipster cocktail lounge in Brooklyn as you walk into Wolf Tree. They offer a variety of playful and inventive drinks. My friend was able to get a virgin cocktail but I just wish they had more than one single cocktail on the menu with vodka. With my choices somewhat limited, I went with a drink called "Friday I'm In Love": vodka, citrus, strawberry, mint, and bubbles. It looked beautiful when it arrived to the table and was a palate pleaser with sour, sweet, and minty flavors. They have weekly specials, classic-type cocktails, and what they call "happy meals" - a beer and shot combination. Don't fear, though, they still have Budweiser, Bud Lite, Miller High Life, and other draft beers for those feeling more traditional Upper Valley. We also ordered one of their charcuterie boards that featured local selections of cheese and meats, olives, pickled vegetables, cured mustards, and a baguette. A great selection but like most of Wolf Tree, a little on the expensive side. Overall I enjoyed my first trip to Wolf Tree and I'm glad hip places like this exist in the Upper Valley.

The interior and the cocktail menu reminded me of the cocktail bars that I frequent in NYC. It's quite cute, dimly lit. I think it's a great place for a date. I enjoyed the Night Vision. It's a rum based drink with carrot, ginger and pineapple juices as well as sesame. My friends got the Knife Fight which was a bourbon based drink with lemon ginger pineapple. Tasted like a gingery whiskey sour. If I'm in town again I'll stop by and try something else. Not sure if this is normal or if their AC was broken but it was super hot inside.

These were served with a pea and bacon risotto whose rich flavors matched the meatballs perfectly and the accompanying crisped breads balanced texture for the perfect combo. The pork belly tostadas had a great combination of toppings that gave them a fresh feel and almost made pork belly feel healthy, and the popover short rib dish was perfectly cooked and tasty. This one wasn't my dish, but I managed to snag a nibble and may be ordering it next time if they decide to add it to the regular menu. So good! The dishes were a nice size, leaving room for desert, and the fresh fruit meringue was an excellent finale. The restaurant itself is small, with a bar and just a handful of indoor tables. They had 4 more tables outside, however, which would be great on slightly cooler days. The indoor window seat we got was comfortable and the whole place had a cozy, friendly feel. Service was top notch, from a greeting as we entered to constant attention - we never really noticed our slightly small (bar style) table as all the dishes were cleared so quickly. I loved this place and will probably have to keep returning until I've tried the whole menu. I'm definitely hoping to try the outdoor tables next if weather permits.

Sitting above sister restaurant Vino e Vivo, chefs Nick and Paul bring elevated small and large plates to this casual setting. Cocktails were great, as you might expect. Head bartender Chris has a creative list of cocktails and I'm sure could mix up anything else you might desire. We tried several small and large plates. Really hard to call out a favorite as they were all good. The Parsnip soup was creamy, rich and delicious with several touches such as crisped rice and basil oil on top that really made this a standout. Beet tartare was great as well with rich delicious beet flavor and texture reminiscent of beef tartare. Don't miss the cornbread with pork belly butter! Service is warm and friendly and chef Nick ran many of the dishes to the tables and bar personally. You could see (and taste) the passion he has for food. I know we will be back for sure since they offer small plates and decadent desserts too. Cheers~
