Upon walking in, there were a lot of boxes around... I don't know if they don't have a proper storage area or if they just got a delivery that day. To the left is the counter to order, refrigerators with drinks, desserts and a couple other items and about 4 tables for eating in. There were two tables outside. The menu consists of salads, wraps and sandwiches. My friend and I both ordered wraps; mine was turkey with cheese, lettuce and avocado, hers was cranberry walnut chicken salad. They were good, but nothing to write home about. The chicken salad was very mayo-y and we found it kind of weird that the cranberries and walnuts were just in the wrap, not actually mixed in with the chicken. Each wrap came with a pickle, and for me, that was the star of the show. It was dilly and crunchy and not too salty. The staff was super friendly. It seems like a popular spot for lunch pick up.

I don't know if our server was new, or if they were understaffed. I also don't know if the cook was new. At the end, I will tell you why I won't eat there again. Let's start with after we were seated it took a good 5 minutes or more before our server showed up. We almost left, but we had gone to El Tequila first only to learn that they are out of business. Darn! (We loved El Tequila! Tell me if you know, if they left the area or what). I should have known not to eat my food when the server thought I had ordered coke though I ordered lemonade! I have never had anyone ever confuse those! I ordered a Mexican omelet and hash browns (because I was really in the mood for Mexican food)! The omelet was good, but there was no seasoning in the ground beef, certainly not taco meat by any stretch of the imagination! I used all my sour cream (which had a lot of water in the container--does sour cream spoil?). And I used all my salsa. It was the only way I could even get an inkling of Mexican flavor. The hash browns were dripping with oil, so I onky had a couple bites of them. Sad! I drank about half my lemonade and asked for a To Go cup, but that never showed up. I waited as long as I could because the cramping started and I told my daughter, "We gotta get home." (I had the runs!) So, no, we won't be going back to Union diner again. Later I remembered this happened to me once before after eating there, but I had blamed it on the eggs. I think now, it must be the oil they use or something.

I…read morewas a little put off by the perma-stained coffee cup interiors and after looking through a couple of them I found one that was not stained. Probably not an issue but I'm a freak about that stuff. They make their own corned beef hash which was pretty good ( though mine is much better!). Their bread selection is also pretty good in that it's all hand sliced thick. However, on that note they did not have Rye bread- which is my go-to bread. Overall a good breakfast though not a great breakfast. I was happy we stopped in as we were all hungry.

Service on a Saturday noon seemed casual - no wait, got pointed towards a "high two-top" (waitress' words). I ordered some hot coffee and, more importantly, the chicken & waffles ($20). Now, this price point might seem more appropriate for Downtown Portsmouth or Boston, but it exists for a reason. Not only do you get a large portion of fried chicken, waffles, and syrup, its adorned with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Effectively, you're getting chicken & waffle eggs benedict. One would need quite the large appetite or have skipped another meal to finish it all.

It has its charm, but they could really use some fresh paint and some updating, and if they redid the booths, they could certainly fit in way more tables and you'd think make more money. The first day, my omelette was OK, though I have to say I prefer George's Diner next door. But the coffee was hot and the coffee cake muffin that was grilled was phenomenal! We came back the next day because of that muffin. Our second experience was not good at all, and the reason we did not go back again, despite being there for 13 days. Service was absolutely horrible! When we walked in, there were few tables seated. We ordered sunny side up eggs with potatoes (fruit for me) and a coffee cake muffin. It took 25 minutes to get it, and made us late for work. They do not turn over tables quickly here. It's a diner folks, and if you can't get eggs out quickly, how do you make money? It's back to George's for us. I have to say this really pissed us off. They tried to say it was a full restaurant, but when we came in, it was not. We ordered something very simple. My dining partner tips 20 bucks on breakfast, and had done so the day before, so though a different server, you think she'd be aware he's a very good tipper and it's a good idea to take care of him. Of 13 days there, we ate next-door at George's 11. The coffee cake muffin here is good, but when you're on a time crunch and have somewhere to be, choose somewhere else.

I however was not warned or happy about the price of add-ons. I didn't realize adding a "side" of hash into my omelette was going to cost 8, yes 8 dollars. I thought adding something to an omelette was more like 2 dollars?... I also asked for a side of salsa because I like salsa on my eggs. I was given the smallest plastic ramekin you can buy in the world with salsa in it so I asked for another. This also cost $1.25 a scorching price for such a small amount of food product. My mother also ordered extra blueberries in her pancakes and it was 2 dollars. When all was said and done, we got a bill for 70 dollars not including the lowest tip I could muster (5 dollars), which she DID NOT DESERVE!!!!!!! This is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!! I was also NEVER once warned of these extra charges especially the 8 dollar one, you think someone would say something like; "By the way that's going to run you 8 extra dollars are you sure you want it?" The waitress was a disgusting savage silent beastie. I was with my mother though and decided not to be irate and complain to management. I should have though, I really should have refused to pay that bill or demanded a discount. I have rarely encountered such a greedy establishment in my LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The place was a dirty rundown mess too, the photos are true, stained drop-tile loser ceiling. Stupid gross walls, no atmosphere whatsoever, just a hog feeding pen for fox news watchers. This place reminds me of LONGHORNS!!!!!!!!! I guess I have to ASK every single establishment I go to now DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR THAT, DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR THAT, DO YOU CHARGE EXTRA FOR THAT!??!!!?!?!?!?!!?!!
