Ventured from Southern New Hampshire to do a little Christmas shopping in the White Mountains. Needed a halfway point for a late lunch. Found this gem on Yelp. Old style Tavern/pub. The first thing we noticed when we walked in the door was that Christmas smacked us in the face with the best smelling Christmas Tree candle , burning in a super cute entryway. I could hardly wait to get inside to see what else this place had in store. First, there was a fireplace and a couch and a table. In the rest of the dining area, we're all high tops. Not so high that a barely over 5 foot person such as myself couldn't sit comfortably. Our waitstaff (there were two) and were great about offering menu suggestions when I shared flavor profiles I might be looking for and they were attentive and so pleasant. They had super cute Christmas decorations, and were putting up more while we were there. The vibe is super warm and welcoming, and for a short while you feel like you stepped back in time. The tiramisu martini was delicious, as was the blood orange martini. I had the cauliflower with juju sauce at the recommendation of the waitress, and it was honestly the best cauliflower I've ever had! My husband enjoyed his macaroni and cheese with buffalo and bleu as well. The owner/chef, Leslie, came and chatted with us for a little bit before we were on our way. We learned that in the summer they hold concerts, and they have a golf course. There is a distillery on site as well. Everything about this place was excellent, and we are already planning a day date to go back and try more menu items! read more

Adorable tavern with a fireplace-don't miss it. We're only in the area for 2 days and we'll be back. I couldn't decide between the chicken rice soup and beef stew and got both. Both were great! The star of the evening was the amazing chicken tenders with the honey mustard sauce. They were DF and GF and SO juicy and flavorful! Service was the best I've experienced in ages. Our waitress made recommendations for local spots for us to visit...including a place to snowshoe in Maine! Another couple from Massachusetts came in an hour before closing time (kitchen was closed) and joined us at our table at the fireplace. Even though we'd paid, we hung out another half hour because they were so much fun. Ironically, they were coming from the restaurant at our hotel! We checked the vibe there, but far preferred the friendly intimacy and twinkling lights at Tavern 27. I think you will too! Don't miss the Earl Grey vodka--with honey notes. Best vodka I've had in my life. Went back the second night-had a modified version of the pistachio martini with vegan cream that was the best drink I've had since being dairy free. LOVE the owner for suggesting it. Bought a sweatshirt there for the memories. Definitely try the popcorn shrimp and Jou Jou sauce. Bliss!! read more

Food and service was amazing! An absolute must stop for those with celiac or gluten sensitivity. The gluten free mac and cheese is the best I've ever had, even pre-celiac. They offered to make my son's gluten free chicken tenders with or without spice which was so appreciated. They even gave us a separate little side of fries for him without the parm/cheese in case he didn't like it. So thoughtful and above and beyond! We bought a cooler and ice afterward so we could take our leftovers with us since we weren't heading back to our hotel for a couple hours. read more

They accommodated my friend who can basically eat NOTHING! like imagine us out here hungry in NH looking for gluten free, niteshade free, dairy free, but the cook here was like don't worry! And came up with something. I had the chicken and waffles with a special strawberry sauce it was yummm. People next to us had the lobster sandwich and were raving. Also there is vodka with raspberries, hibiscus, espresso - you can see those things distilled in the vodka bottles. So it's back in the parking lot where there's a tent and a bar. They call to you when they see you walking in case you go the wrong way. Apparently the restaurant up front has been closed but it's the same chef in the back. read more

I love this place. It is small enough to get to know everyone having dinner there (if you want) . The food is always delicious . And the architecture is very comforting. Barn-farmhouse style with huge hewn beams holding up antique walls. I love the spare ribs and this is a great place to share food with others so we order the spare ribs and some side dishes that we can all dig into. The popcorn shrimp are crisp and come with tasty dipping sauces. The feta cheese and hummus is also a tasty side dish. I have eaten at one of the tables. But i also enjoy the easy chairs beside the fire place with the coffee table. This is a wonderful place to go with friends. read more

We are so glad we found this place during our New Hampshire adventure. It was truly one of the highlights. The restaurant has a very unique, homey and rustic atmosphere. Service was fantastic and the food was memorable. Food is served in a "larger than regular" tapas portion, which is music to my ears. Even better? Sundays are buy one, get one free pizza day. Hurrah! Alright? The biggest food recommendation you'll want is the clam chowder. Just hook up an IV with the clam chowder and be done with it. So creamy, fresh, flavorful--a huge bowl of this and your heart will be set and content and the restaurant will no longer be able to do any wrong. The chickpea fries? Pretty good. Served with both ketchup and a spicy mayo, they fries are tasty, if just a tad dry that make up for it with the sauce. It's worth trying. The brussels with the horseradish cheese? I'd probably skip next time. I like my brussel sprouts a bit more crispy. Would skip next time. The root vegetables and the mushroom/veggie pizzas we had? Freaking delicious. Do not skip go, get the root veggie plates and the pizzas! I wish we had enough time and stomach room for dessert because every dessert that came out of that kitchen looked incredible. 5-stars for the food, staying true to the farm to table concept and the rustic atmosphere. We just had a very busy day and stopped over here to unwind after work. What a great relaxing place. Such a nice variety of interesting drinks and while the menu is limited, it is limited to things. They do extremely well. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much. The sandwiches come on waffles. The waffles are so light and fluffy, almost like poofy crepes. My friend and I shared one that was fried chicken, bacon, tomato and peppers and it was so good. My other friend had the lobster roll, just wonderful. read more

A true hidden gem!!! The food was so good and the atmosphere was perfect. We had a Powerhouse Salad with Chicken and the seasonal veggies which were brussel sprouts. The veggies were very obviously fresh cut and not a standard delivery type of veggie. They have great vegan and pescatarian options as well! Legitimately one of the absolute best dining experiences I've ever had, no exaggeration. My mother and I were up in the area for the weekend and before we came, my aunt strongly recommended that we try Tavern 27; my mother and I ended up coming both nights that we were staying in Laconia. The first night, a Friday night, we walked in and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get a table, but luckily we were promptly seated. We ordered the chicken skewers with sweet chili sauce, the blue cheese dip, the inside out popper combo, and a meat market pizza; we devoured every bit of it. We were so impressed that my mother asked to make a reservation for Saturday night at 5pm, which was available. Upon our arrival tonight (Saturday) we were immediately recognized and welcomed by the staff and they thanked us for returning. The service was wonderful. The atmosphere is rustic and warm, set in an old colonial house with dim lighting and wooden beams. We ordered our poppers and blue cheese dip again, along with the chickpea fries, steak skewers and a Caesar salad. Again, devoured every bit of it. It was just an incredible experience. I wish I had pictures of the food, but it didn't last long enough for me to take pictures. I've never had tapas style dining prior to this, but wow, what an incredible introduction. What a great surprise to find this place! The variety was awesome to start. Once we'd decided we were very pleased! Everything we had was delicious. The duck rolls were fantastic. The flavors of all our food were super tasty. The atmosphere was gorgeous and even in the small space we felt we had privacy and could hear each other just fine. The only things that prevented a five star rating was Phil the waiter who came across as a bit insincere. Also the radio station classic rock should be something else like jazz, 40s big band, folk or something, anything else. All in all we loved this place and WILL be back! Just to preface this review, I'm not the type of person that sends food back to the kitchen nor do I relish the opportunity to give bad reviews. With that said, I think my family and I just had the worst dinner of our lives at Tavern 27. The problems were many... 1) The duration of the meal: After spending a day in the lakes region with my wife and two elementary school aged kids we arrived at the open of the restaurant, 5PM. We ordered at 5:10 - French fry basket, two pizzas, bruschetta and chicken skewers. French fries arrived arrived at 5:45.. alone. We would sit and stare at the remenants of our French fries for the next half an hour before the 4 chicken skewers finally arrived. 15 minutes following the chicken that the two pizzas arrived. At this point we were somewhat frustrated and I asked that the brushetta be removed from our order. This was not abided and it arrived shortly thereafter. We concluded at 6:50. 2) The food: French fries were OK, a little soggy if I'm being critical. Chicken skewers were tough and the sauce was a strange mix of thyme and soy sauce. Pizzas were terrible, crust was wofully undercooked. The bottom of the pizza my wife and I shared was colorless but did have a dusting of burnt remenants from the previously cooked pizza. My son compared his pizza to a Lunchable which I perceived as generous. Brushetta was fine but it was to little to late. 3) Service: Tapas restaurants are challenging, food has to be paced properly and the previous dishes cleared. We used the same 4" plates for the entirety of the "meal" and we had to ask twice for kids cups. When my daughter wanted a second drink they told us there were only two kid lids and my wife had to shakily transfer an overly full glass into the cup we already had at our table. Lastly, perhaps all this could be explained if the restaurant was busy but there were only two other tables occupied for most of the duration. More frustrating was they received plate after plate while we waited and picked at cold fries. read more

It did not disappoint our gf daughter or the rest of us that don't have an allergy. Waffle sandwiches? Yes please! Ordered 4 dishes - clam chowder - brisket rolls - steak skewers - cauliflower ju ju - not a bad dish in the bunch! Great quality food, well prepared. Struck up a conversation with the owner Ray who sat at the bar for his nightly flatbread. Told us his life story and ate his pizza cold. Great guy and the staff clearly lives working there as they were collectively dotting on us the whole visit. i know i wrote one already, but heres some more. Sometimes shit needs to be hammered home. What can I say that others haven't already? Let's start with the fact that the bread pudding is the best bread pudding in the world!!! I don't even like bread pudding and I love this stuff. The food, oh man the food, so it's Tapas / small plate place and to be honest the plates aren't really that small. If you are a group of 3 or 4 it's the perfect place of your all. Some of my favorites are the Haddock Bites, the calamari, the french fries with the dipping sauces, the steak skewers... You get the picture, this former fatty loves food... The vibe is real cool, it's in a house like a few restaurants around the lakes region, located on a small golf course and away from the chaos of the actual lake. They have a good libations menu, and i usually opt for something in an oversized mason jar because I'm fancy like that. There is a good selection of beer and wine, but again I opt for a big mixed that will last me through my meal. That's the thing, I was never use to food coming out one by one, but this place times it perfect almost always. There is a pianist there on the weekends, Bob. Doesn't sound like a big deal right? Well, if you get a chance to not only hear him, but read about him, you will be feeling that you lived a very inadequate life and really haven't amounted to shit and you should probably just BE BETTER! You will have to trust that I am telling you the truth, and once you have figured it out by visiting this place, you will remember me and say that Derek was right. I am always right, I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken. Did i mention the bread pudding? So the owner seems to be there usually, and we have spoken to him a few times. He's real nice and it's more than just a table touch, he will engage in any conversation whether it be the haunted house this place is in, or the food itself or whatever else you may mention. So yeah this place really is as good as it gets, I wish yelp would consider a 5 star plus symbol or something that you can use maybe only once a year, if it did, this would be the one I would use it on. I really can't stress enough how much I fucking love this place. Oh yeah, make reservations, I mean we were kind of laughed at once when we went there without one. Okay they didn't laugh, but they should have... Oh yeah it's cheap, like inexpensive, like you cheap people won't have anything to bitch about. You people should actually just stay home. We stopped here based on the reviews. We pulled in and realized it was a place we pulled into 1 Year ago during bike week. It looked extremely busy so we left. I have to say we missed out! We pulled in again today and it did not disappoint. Bailey was very friendly and obviously enjoy her job and is proud of the product. She also created 2 new drinks. The upside down pineapple Cale martini and summer bees. I tried the summer bees and it was perfect. Honey Jim Beam and lemonade and a drizzle local honey. The food was plated beautifully and was delicious. We ordered calamari, artichoke goat cheese candied pecan bites, and tenderloin au poivre. All three were delicious!!! We have been going to the Tavern for 10 years now . Leslie & Ray are the owners. This is a tapas restaurant the big difference is they Americanized it . That means they are larger portions than the typical tapas. They grow there own herbs and some spices. The food is all locally sourced when at all possible . The meals are all cooked to order and it is fresh. We have tried just about all the items on the menu and honestly have not found a item we haven't liked. You have to try the chick pea fries, But definitely save room for their bread pudding Leslie has knocked it off the charts when it comes to her bread pudding. We were in here last weekend while in town and really enjoyed the food...andddd that's about it. The staff are awkward and rightfully so, the manager I believe was literally running around barking orders and micromanaging every single person in there. He is a HUGE turn off from returning to this quaint little place and it's such a shame. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly only after we told her what a turn off the manager was, I felt like she was afraid to be friendly because he would yell at her...not ok. Like I said huge shame he's such a tyrant because the food was excellent. We had garlic poppers (so good!), duck confit (the duck was dry), and halibut (out of this world!) and enjoyed a few beers after a long day of driving. It was a Saturday night and we were looking for a gem amidst the rocks. We had sat down at the bar of another local eatery, but we weren't interested in it's fool's gold menu and atmosphere, so we pulled the ripcord and bolted. Thanks to the handy yelp app, up pops Tavern 27. American Tapas in Laconia, OK then, surely worth a go? Ray, the affable owner, started us with a wonderful bottle of wine of his personal recommendation. For those more serious about wine, this place seemed to be on top of it's game. He also introduced us to an excellent artesian water called Pi, that was filtered via some magnetic/magical way and served complimentary throughout the meal. The rustic decor matched the charm of the centuries old structure which was a pleasure to be inside. Each and every member of the staff we dealt with was genuinely friendly and enhanced the experience. It was explained to us that the American Tapas portions were a little larger than the tapas I have had in Boston. With that knowledge we ordered 4 dishes for just the two of us and let the chef decide on the proper order of consumption. We started with the artichoke bites, which were light, fresh, and tasty. Then to the Caesar Salad, which may be the best I ever I had, leaving me wonder to where I was eating Caesar Salads my whole life. Thirdly, Wild Mushrooms with Garlic, if you like those two ingredients, this dish is for you. And finally, lightly clad Calamari, the breading was just right, the ocean flavor of the Calamari came shining though and you still had the satisfaction of devilish deep fried seafood. This was the good Calamari, fresh, with both rings and bodies. They were served with a sweet chili sauce that complemented nicely. I am weary of cake like deserts as my sweet taste buds need very little to satisfy themselves. I cannot recall the exact name of this cake desert, but it was a Harpoon beer chocolatety kind of cake with this super good Bailey's frosting that was full of flavor and not overly sweet. We lapped up every bit of that desert goodness and wrapped up the dining experience with nice hand-pressed espressos. All and all, Tavern 27 appears to be the gem of the area, with the feeling that every aspect of the experience has been thoughtfully considered by the hosts. As with anything, value is important, the monetary damage after all said and done was quite reasonable. Will def return to try more of that menu. read more

I'll echo what seems to be the prevailing theme here, and that is the overall experience that you're going to have here matters. What a refreshing concept, owners and staff that want to satisfy their guests and truly appreciate your business. We were greeted by Ray as soon as we walked in. He wasn't "working", in fact he looked as though he had been outside slaving away at something. No matter, a big smile and a genuine welcome made us feel right at home. We didn't have a reservation (which is highly suggested in the Summer) and asked if we might sit at the bar, and after a quick check at the packed guest reservation sheet we were gladly seated. We were then met by Cora who gave us a brief overview of the restaurant and how they operate and quickly took our drink requests. Bailey then popped over behind the bar and introduced herself, and went into great detail about all of the different homemade bitters that she makes there as well the organic herb infused drinks. My wife had a giant Mason Jar basil lemonade drink that was really delicious. We then ordered the Antipasto Salad to start. It's always a belief of ours that you can tell how fresh the rest of your meal is going to be based on a restaurant's salad. This was perfect. Absolutely fresh, wonderful combination, and a nice sized serving that left us both ready to order more. Next we ordered the Artichoke Bites, Mezze Plate, and Asian Ginger Shrimp. Let me tell you, the candied pecans on those Artichoke Bites will make your day. Perfect amount of chevre, fresh artichokes, wonderful. The Mezze Plate was a very thoughtful combination of local cheeses with a big bowl of pickled veg and really fresh grilled bread. The portion was huge, really enough for a party of 4 if you're at all considering this. The Shrimp were indeed colossal, char grilled slightly, and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Wrapped up our visit with a couple of drink suggestions by Bailey. She made my wife what she said was one of the best Espresso Martinis that she's ever had, and made me an Old Fashioned with a little Maple/Chipotle bitters that she had made. Perfect amount, didn't overpower my drink at all but added a nice smokey flavor. When leaving we saw Ray outside and waved, and he immediately came over to thank us for coming in. Who does that? Owners that truly care, that's who. We will absolutely be back Ray, and if you're going to be spending any time at all in the Lakes Region I highly suggest trying to get a reservation here. I wish the bocadillo was 1/2 the size (4 thick slices of cordon bleu bocadillo. ) Even if price was not cut in half and only reduced by 30%. Duck confit wonton wrappers a bit too thick but otherwise good. Loved the scotch eggs and Tuscan pizza. Save room for bread pudding. Best in the NE! Last piece of advice - this is third time for us here. Twice we were at table close to the bar area. Don't sit there because it's too loud thanks to some patrons! Get a table instead. read more

Being that it was a Thursday, after Labor Day, and there were only a handful of cars in the lot, it was surprising that reservations would be required... by the reaction of the "host," you'd think that we asked for free meals. Tavern 27 is a must try!! The food was phenomenal. We start with roasted brussel sprouts and bacon with a balsamic reduction. Cooked to perfection (not too soft but not too crunchy) Pepper Poppers and Garlic Poppers. Which were very light and unlike traditional Jalapeno Poppers, the Jalapeno and cheese were blender together and covered with panko bread crumbs, to then be baked We didn't stop there....lol Next was the Loaded Steak Roulade, the combination of mashed potatoes, bacon, cheese, garlic and steak was on point. Just the right amount to taste a delicious steak dinner wrapped up! Finally, we took to-go the Chicken, Bacon and Apple pizza, made on their homemade sour dough crust. Also topped with asiago cheese and a very tasty black pepper aioli! Again a MUST TRY! The atmosphere was very cozy. They gave you the option to sit infront of the fire place, bar area or high tops.
