So, since the last time I reviewed George's I have been back a few more times. The service is so much better. The hostess places you on the wait list right away. The young people setting the tables are right there with water and asking if you need anything else to drink. The waitress is over right away to get your order. The food is warm and plentiful. What a turn around from since the changing of management. For a good hearty breakfast or lunch, George's will do in a pinch. read more

THE best cafe in town!! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming as well as the staff. We are always greeted with a smile. The food here is sooo delicious! It is so hard making a decision on what to order because everything item on the menu is so tempting. Be warned you WILL want to order one of everything on the menu and be sure you bring an appetite because the portions are huge and so good. Ahh George. For a quick breakfast you will do. Simple down to earth and a stones throw away from my friends house. I was in the mood for a corn beef hash and wanted to see if maybe this could be a secret spot for that. The search continues for me... George is frequented by regulars of the retired kind. Awful. Gyro meat was thin & dry. Eggs overcooked. The" greek" bread was dry and tasteless. The only thing that tasted good were the potatoes and tzatziki sauce. This was the Greek skillet. Coffee was lukewarm. This was at 9:30am. Perhaps 6am is better ? This was my first time. Never again. read more

I've been to George's before. I feel like their portions are large for the price. In the past service was slow, but today the food came out quickly. My problem was with waitstaff (Bianca). I felt like we were bothering her. After the meal was delivered she never asked us if we If we needed something, we had to flag her. She put the check down and didn't even say have a good day. I tipped 15%, even though her service was BAD. I normally tip 25%, but you have to be more friendly. Maybe she was having a bad day. I don't know, but I rarely go out to eat. Georges has a wide selection of food this is consistently very good. The service is quick, pleasant and they make sure you are satisfied. It was just ok. Huevos Rancheros were meh. It seems restaurants don't realize what that dish should be. It is not just eggs with refried beans on the side. Service was lacking friendliness. Atmosphere was nice. Prices were good. We won't be back any time soon as it was underwhelming. read more

Love this place and I have been coming here for years. I always get the green chili smothered on my eggs & potatoes (fresh potatoes, not frozen). French toast is also very tasty. I have dined here a few times over the years and I don't understand why I keep trying to get good tasting food at this restaurant. I was at the DMV yesterday and thought I would grab a bit of lunch. It's been about 3/4 years since I dined there last. I noticed the restaurant is beautifully painted in Greek style blue and white with murals on the outside. Now I love Greek cuisine. I eat at Pete's Greek Cafe and Yiannis on Colfax when ever I'm in that area. They have fantastic Greek food! That being said, yesterday I ordered a simple lunch of Pita Gyros sandwich and fries. The wait staff is very pleasant and prompt. When my Gyros sandwich arrived I noticed the gyros meat was the kind that was the processed kind that you would buy at Sam's Cub, sliced thin like bologna slices. I have never had gyros meat like that and I must say it had no flavor at all. The best tasting gyros meat is the kind that is sliced fresh off a roasting pit. The fresh tomatoes and red onion had more flavor that the meat. I feel that this gyros meat is an insult to Greek Cuisine. The menu has several Greek dishes listed as well as the American cafe favorites. I have no doubt that a lot of their entrees are great, but if they cannot make authentic Greek food, then I think George should take the Greek items off the menu. Cafe looks Greek from the outside but so far there's not proof in the Greek food on the menu. read more

Good Ole Fashioned Mom and Pop owned businesses like this are sadly dying away faster than Blockbuster Video. Fortunately people like George keep the dream alive providing a wide variety of comfort foods greeting and chatting with every customer from lifelong regulars to first timers such as myself. Being that this is a Greek american cafe- you can expect everything from Green Chile topped Breakfast items to burgers, Mexican Food , salads, traditional dinner offerings and of course Pitas and other Greek style favourites. I opted to a basic lamb filled Pita served with fries. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. I'm looking forward to trying out breakfast and some dinner options. George's is a familiar ilk, and one that I enjoy. To my mind it's a diner, but George says it's cafe, so a cafe it is. Friendly service from good humored waitstaff. A huge menu - daily specials - breakfast served all day - comfort food/home cooking with elements of Greek, Mexican and Italian. Large portions and prices so reasonable you wonder where their margin is. Good food - not great but surprisingly good given that the cook has to be able to prepare dozens of different dishes off of the too large menu. Yes cooks, not chefs - not a criticism as they are good at what they do in sending out a wide variety of good eats. Lots of (Greek) blue and white. Not divey but "tired" fixtures, flooring and decor. Don't think it's been updated in years. Maybe never. But that's okay - part of the charm is the absence of pretense. George's is what it is and I like what it is. I'll definitely be back - even know what I'm having next time - a Greek salad with gyro meat. Saw one last time I was there and it looked great. I ordered the Santa Fe Sunrise breakfast- homemade hash browns smothered with green chile and cheese + 2 eggs and toast. Everything was great. When you're hankerin' for a hunk of down-home local goodness, this is your haven. Perfectly cooked eggs, unique and flavorful flat sausage, delicious greasy (in a good way) potatoes and good coffee. When I asked if they had espresso, the lovely waitress said, "Our specials? They are...". I love that she didn't recognize the word espresso and that they have none. They let me sit for a long while as I worked on my computer. They filled my coffee cup several times. It was perfect. I got to George's super early so there was no shortage of attention. I love it here and wish I lived closer to enjoy it often. The waitress said that the lunches and dinners are also outstanding. You can find George workin late. Great diner with classic American/Mexican/Greek favorites. Visited on a Sunday around noon and parking lot and waiting "area" was packed. After 20-25 minute wait, we were seated and orders taken promptly despite the packed house. We ordered hamburgers &fries, pancakes, huevos rancheros, BLT & fries, Greek salad w/chicken, and a Reuben sandwich. Every plate was empty at the end of the meal. George's Cafe is wonderful! We LOVE their breakfast burritos. The generous size, fresh ingredients, and the green chili are delicious!! The green chili is not like any other green chili and to be honest you could find me secretly eating this in the closet because I can't stop. See for yourself! Other dishes we enjoy and recommend are their chicken fried steak, burgers, and sausage sandwiches. The owners treat everyone like family and when you eat at their restaurant, the hospitality is just what you would receive if you went to your best friends home. We were a bit disappointed today, this is usually really good so to say it's only a 3 is sad. I had the chili rellano, eggs, hashbrowns with green chili and a tortilla, hubby had the huevos rancheros, both got eggs over easy (they were) both asked for extra crispy hashbrowns, the top was somewhat brown but the potatoes were basically warm and white, not even close to crispy, had the waitress take them back the minute she brought them. I don't ever blame a waitress for how the food tastes but I do blame them for bringing me food that they know isn't what I ordered even if they tell me they put it on the ticket, you can see it isn't right so make the cooks do it right before you bring it out. The chili rellano wasn't completely cooked but by then we were tired of waiting for the hashbrowns to come out and the rest of the food getting colder. I hope it was just a glitch but it might be a while before we come back. read more

I have been going to George's Cafe for years. Yesterday, I went in to have coffee and chill and was never treated so rude in all my life. I typically pay for everything on either my credit card or debit card as it serves as a tracker for my spending. Not thinking I went to pay for an $.85 cup of coffee and pulled out my card. Rather than asking if I had cash, George picked up my card, threw it towards me and began reading me a riot act at the top of his voice. I reached in my pocket to pull out cash and again he picked up the card threw it towards me saying, "I don't want your money, you can't afford it, I will buy your coffee, just go." I will not tolerate rudeness as I am NEVER rude to anyone and if this is all he cares about a long time customer then, I will eat and spend my money elsewhere! read more

Good news is their breakfast plates look amazing, bad news is I came for lunch. I had their catfish w vegetables and this is why my rating is so low. Catfish was over cooked so it was dry and the veggies, let's just say have you ever bought a can of Veg-All at the grocery store? You know the one that comes in vinegar water. They didn't even drain it, just boiled it how it came in the can. Uneatable, really bad. Now the fries were good and great staff. Just come eat breakfast, you'll be better off. read more

Have been a regular for last few years but after incidents that will be my last visit. 1. Food service and food quality is unacceptable. Additionally the staff (Food server #9) is very sarcastic and mumbles. Last week I asked her to change a $20 bill so that I could leave a tip. Her response," We don"t do that". Guess what I did? 2. Today I got the first cup of coffee and that was the last. The waitress just ignored me 3. When I went to pay the bill she processed the credit card and threw the receipt for sign on the counter, and just looked at me. Well I left a big tip ($.01). 4. I noticed that there has been almost a complete turn over of staff and also a decline in customers. I wonder why? read more
