Do any barbers nowadays understand the phrase "light trim"? That's what I asked for, and yet the very affable lady at George's proceeded to cut my hair three-fourths of the way up my head, and then thinned out the top of my head hair (already kind of thin). If they can't understand "light trim," then they really ought to warn that they can't do it. In six weeks, of course, this will be just a distant, unpleasant memory. read more

Just called to inquire about pricing for a short hair trim. Was asked is the trim for a man or woman? I said what difference does it make? He said for women a trim is $24 and men it is $17. This place needs to get with the times and leave misogynist behavior and pricing behind. We refuse to go to any barber that charges women higher prices than men! That's just wrong! I have been searching for a good barber since my old one moved away. I tried a couple, but it just wasn't the way I wanted my hair cut. I decided to try George's. There were four barbers the day I went. Three women and one man. I had to wait about twenty minutes, since all four were occupied. One woman, T, cut my hair. She asked how I wanted my hair styled. She expertly trimmed my hair. It probably was one of the best haircuts I ever had. Highly recommend going there for a haircut. read more

Was looking around for a good barber shop after moving here, and I found this place. Staffs are super friendly and they cut my hair splendidly, they know exactly how to cut mine even without much of my instructions on how I want it to be. There are 4 chairs and wait would be around 25min maximum everytime I went, so be ready to wait a bit but shouldn't take long. Definitely will be my place to go to from now on! read more

I recently moved to Bethesda, MD from East Harlem, NY. For the past 19 years, I have only allowed Dominican barbers to cut my hair, aside from two others. One was an elderly Indonesian man in SF, and the other a Pakistani cat in Jamaica Queens. Tony is now the third non-Dominican barber to have cut my hair, and I am not disappointed. I did go to another barbershop when he was too busy, and my hair got butchered. I had to grow it out for almost two weeks and come back to Tony to have it fixed up as much as possible. Been coming to this barber shop for a few years. $16 to cut the hair and $7 for the beard (when I'm too lazy to trim it myself). I'm not particularly attractive by modern standards so need a decent haircut to not repulse loved ones. Wife hasn't left me yet. Always have been happy with how I look leaving this place. There's a few things that by my book make a great barber. 1) He's an artist after all, he is meticulous and pays careful attention to symmetry and caters to tailoring your cut to your face. 2) Masters the lost art using a straight edge razor to trim the edges. 3) Remembers your cut so you do not have to remind him over and over how you like your cut. 4) Provides insight when requested. 5) Reasonably priced. That's why I give this guy 5 stars. I met him when he was working across the street from where he just opened his own shop and I followed him when he moved across the street next to the tattoo parlor. He's currently expanding his shop to add more space but you can tell he loves what he does and it reflects on the cuts he provides his customers. I live in DC, but will travel out to Silver Spring just to get a hair cut by this guy. read more

Donna is the best and been cutting my hair for more than 20 years Cuts your hair exactly the way you want. Uses razor to clean the edges of the cut and price is super reasonable. Other barbers are also great. First come first serve. They also do a great job with young kids. read more

Great place! They take their time and really pay attention to detail. After the cut, they shave the sides and they do a very thorough job drying hair--it feels like a head massage! Also, they are very good with Asian hair. I know this can be a concern. Also, they only charge $16, although I give at least $20. read more

I went in for a birthday haircut with my girlfriend this morning. Donna, who usually cuts my hair, had the day off. After showing the person who was there a picture of what I wanted, she told me she wasn't comfortable doing it and asked if I could come tomorrow and have Donna cut it. Never in my life have I experienced this before. While I was disappointed that I have to wait, I am extremely impressed with the professionalism I witnessed today. A family oriented neighborhood barbershop with friendly staff. Good haircuts too.

First time getting a hair cut here and had a phenomenal experience. I came here because I read great reviews on yelp and google maps. Tony cut my hair and was fantastic. His attention to detail was superb. I went with a cut that was very different and out of my comfort zone but he gave me tips and made it and my beard trim look great. Then at the end I didn't realize they only take cash and I didn't have any. He knew I was running late to a meeting so he was very relaxed and told me not worry about it and just bring it later in the day. im doing in caps because i want everyone to notice this great barber shop!!! i have lived near this shop and decided to give them a try because its hard to find a consistantly good barber that i can go to any of the staff at any given day and they have all given me exalant haircuts!! that is extreamly rare actually they are the only one i have ever seen in my old 54yrs!! you know i dont think i can expand on that much, but i will add a couple also great details. i am extreamly picky about my haircuts and a barbers ability to exacute a proper fade on the sides is the one issue that will determine weather i return and yes they all have with each of the three i have recieved and the other point is that i do not want a barber that spends two hours on my cut but a barber that takes the appropriate time to exacute a proper cut the way it should be done and again really happy i found this great shop with great professinal barbers that care about their work and their customers! in closing i want to mention how kind and friendly the entire staff has been every visit! haha only three cuts but seriously feel as i have been coming my whole life!! extra thanks to tony and donna they both sealed the deal with me im gunna be back and have started spreading the word to all of my family and friends as well as my own plumbing customers now that says it!!!! keep up the great work and im actully going right now for number 4 and there is no worry because i know im in gr5eat hands!!!!! thanks for caring about your work!!! read more

My wife and I took our 18 month old grandson here for a haircut (not his first) on a Saturday morning. No choice on the timing and I was dreading a crowded barber shop on a Saturday. This is a small store in a three store center (barber, cleaner, beer and wine store) and I was surprised they had four chairs and each had a barber. With three people waiting that meant we were next in line for one of the chairs! We got into the chair (grandson sitting across my legs) and the barber went to get us some toys out of the box in the window. She worked well with our grandson and gave him a great haircut. Cost was the same as an adult haircut, 16 dollars. Well worth it and a good tip for the time and attention we got. This was a great first visit to the shop and the barber thanked us for coming in. This shop is of the beaten path but worth a visit. read more

Let me start off by saying that the employees at this barber shop are nice people. However, that is not why my fiancé came in here today. All he wanted was a simple fade, not that complicated. He went in and got his haircut and when he got home he noticed that there was a distinct line across his head. So we go back to get it fixed. The lady who messed up his hair earlier tried fixing it but made it even worse and made his hair even shorter from the top. My fiancé even showed her pictures of what he wanted. She ended up having two other ladies try and fix it but they just kept cutting it even shorter and shorter and didn't even try to blend the bottom half or look decent. Which was the initial problem! Our wedding pictures are in a couple days and now we have to cancel them because his hair is choppy and short from the top and he literally looks like a basketball. Needless to say, we are never coming back again. If you just want a simple trim or a really simple haircut you might get a decent one here (maybe, probably wouldn't risk it if i were you) but if you want a nice haircut or a fade DONOT come here. All they said was "I'm sorry" as if that's going to fix his horrific haircut. And don't even get me started on how tiny this place is. Literally only four chairs to sit and wait. We had to stand next to the door because this place is the size of my bathroom. Just save your money and time, go somewhere else. read more

Been going here for over 10 years. Donna is the best! She handled my tangled hair in my days of the Jew - fro and Jew-dreads and still does a fantastic job now that I'm bald as can be. People there are really nice and they just renovated the place maybe about a year ago so it's pretty pleasant place to be. There are 4 barbers working there at any given time; if it doesn't matter which one cuts your hair the wait is often pretty short but if you want Donna you need to plan on investing a little more time. Consistently good haircuts at a reasonable price for this area. I had tried several other area barber shops and got very inconsistent results before I found this one. I try to avoid the guy on the left, he doesn't do it for me. But all the women there have given me good cuts. My hair is straight and my cut is easy. Still those hacks in Woodmoor couldn't get it right. I'm thoughtful about when I go so never had to wait more than a few minutes. The glowing artwork by the front door is a bit weird though. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I normally go to the Burtonsville Barbershop every other week or so where Nick has done a great job for the 10 years I have been going there, even as my hair got thinner on top. Unfortunately, my father passed and I needed a haircut the morning of the funeral and couldn't get to Nick. I was referred to George's from reliable sources and it is near my home so George's it was. I don't know the gents name who cut my hair, but he was kind of middle age or at least older than other people working there. He asked me how I wanted it cut and I said "3" which is what I have said everywhere I have been. I have stopped in barber shops in towns all over the country when on motorcycle rides. He said ok and maybe 2 on the side? And I said ok. He was a pleasant guy who gave a a great experience including a nice head rub, but what I ended up with was more like a 1-1/4 on top and barely a 1on the sides. Of course my baldness really showed up (I didn't realize how bald I was). After about 4 weeks I went back to Nick as my hair had returned to it proper length to cut. Two weeks later I was about to go out of town and once again couldn't get to Nick. Why I decided to give George's another chance, I do not know. I walked in and all 3 chairs we occupied by people getting hair cuts so I sat and waited. While I waited 4 more people came in and 3 sat while the 4th left. When the first barber came available, a young women who seemed to have just given an ok cut, I got in her chair. She asked what I wanted and I said "3", just "3", not too short. Apparently she took that to me very short because I ended up with almost a bald head. Like no joke, the top of my head had hair that was maybe an 1/8 of an inch. She spun me around and said "ok?" and I didn't know what to say, I was dumbfounded. I got up and left figuring they can't put it back so, I just won't be back. read more
