I moved to Montgomery County 3 years ago and visited a lot of shops for walk-ins. Ed is by far the best barber in the area in my opinion. I got my first cut from him about a year ago and after that I've been going back consistently and started bringing my son to him too. I highly recommend booking through The Cut app ("Ed Goodfella") as his hours are different from what appears on the shop's search results. The shop is actually open 7 days a week and there are always a few other solid barbers available for walk-ins. The hours posted online aren't accurate so I recommend calling if you're considering walking in. Ed has decades of experience and I've seen him cut every type of hair you can imagine to perfection! I finally found my barbershop! I made an appointment with Frankie on the "the Cut" app and was very happy that I did. I walked in a little before my appointment and he was ready to go! It's a very pleasant atmosphere, everyone one in there was friendly and the establishment is very clean with a few TVs that can be watched and enjoyed. The shop is clean and bright with comfortable old style movie or auditorium seats. We were greeted immediately which is nice and one of my two teens got in the chair right away. Sadly, went downhill from there. The TV is way too loud. Ridiculousness on MTV with constant bleeps for curses was like an assault on the ears. Ignorant content not appropriate for kids but in fairness no kids were in there when I brought my teens. But why not play it safe for the customers instead of having "PG porno", a fake-boob instagram model in skimpy clothing talking about the a--shots she likes to post and on and on? I thought about getting my brows done for 10 dollars but didn't want to listen to more fart noises from the TV. I will not return because of the atmosphere. I don't get into my teen's business, social media etc, but neither do I seek out opportunities to expose them to ignorant impolite television focused on body parts and bodily fluids. Now for the cuts. The price is way higher than the place I usually take the boys. For my teens I usually pay $16-18 plus a tip. A fade cut here is $30. The lady did a careful job with my son's high top. All of the barbers (3) were working very meticulously which is a good thing but it did take a while. An hour and 20 minutes for one fade was over the top, sorry. Then she took her time photographing it. My other son got done in 20 minutes. 90 minutes for a high-priced cut combined with the loud foul mouth TV put me in a foul mood. No thanks. read more

I have been taking my son here for over 3 years now. We have always had a good experience here. My son (5yrs old) does not like to get haircuts and can sometimes get fussy in the chair. Sam handles my son with care and professionalism and gets the job done. If Sam is unavailable there are other capable barbers that can cut like Coleman and Edwin. I highly recommend this business. The only issue I have is finding parking can be a little frustrating. But the great hair cuts my son receives is definitely why we keep coming back. read more

I thought I'd get a decent hair cut here. The barbers are inexperienced, if all you want is an all over head shave this is your place, tho something you can do yourself. If you're expecting something with a little more detail I'd recommend you look into other places. Money not worth this place, even if the prices start at $25, also, they don't take cards, cash only, and they may not have change. Their way of getting a tip since they know they probably did a bad job. Try anyways and see for yourself. read more

First off, don't mistake the 2 star rating as an overall indicator of the type of skills that these barbers possess because they really are great at what they do. This rating is due to the overall noise level in the barbershop. Between the Television being on, the music playing in the background and two of the Barbers having a heated debate about sports, it was virtually impossible to hear or speak to my barber! Please understand that I have no problem with people being passionate about sports. However, when your passion becomes loud, annoying and shows a blatant disregard for the customer experience, it can be a big turn off for new or existing clients. I've been coming to S&M barbershop for 8 years now and I never plan on finding another barbershop. All the barbers are friendly and greet you the moment you step in. All can cut any kind of hair. Best part is that they all come to know you at a personal level, it becomes a family. It doesn't get any better. I've been here multiple times since I moved to Silver Spring and I must say that this place is a blast to go to. I come here every two weeks to get a haircut by Coleman. He does a very great job and the environment is a home like feel. I've tried a lot of other barbershops but I must say that this place does provide a great haircut.
