Overall, I am happy with this barber shop and will continue to patronize them. I've been twice and had 2 different barbers. I would say that their beard shape ups are top-notch. I am incredibly picky about my haircut and both times I couldn't stay longer, but if I could have, I would have had them get it perfect. I don't doubt the skills, I just need to explain exactly what I want better. I am about 90% satisfied with both haircuts (Again, I am a bit crazy about how perfect the cut is). But I expressly said what kind of cut I wanted and I even made sure to spend time pointing out an issue that from a prior haircut that I wanted addressed. Barber said sure, no problem, I got this. $120 later and it turns out - he didn't. Six weeks later, not only is the problem still there, it's even MORE pronounced. Ive always had long hair, it has never been shorter than an inch. I went and this place And asked that I wanted my hair to look like it did a month ago. I have returned to Andrew and Suite Barber Shop twice since the party and even though it's up in Takoma, I will continue to make the trip. Andrew's shop is remarkably clean, and the casual environment he turned the former office space into is impressive. No matter how many guests are waiting, Andrew is courteous and will offer you a beer or water upon your arrival. Just make sure you call a couple of hours in advance. He takes his time with each customer, so even if you're waiting a little longer than you wanted, know that he will not rush when it comes to your dome. Again, Andrew knows how to cut hair and he knows what hair is best for your face shape. If you're not sure what you want, talk it out with him. If you do, but he suggests something else, I would recommend listening to him. He's got an eye for hairstyles, and is, without a doubt, the best barber in the DC-Metro area. I can't WAIT for them to get their female hair stylist into play so I can start coming here on the regular to get my stylezzzz on boys & girls. This place shouldn't be judged from the outside appearance. It is shared with a daycare center & another local business upstairs, so don't judge, just give it a try. On the INSIDE it's stylish, local and has the perfect vibe. Nothing stuck up, nobody pressuring you to get something specific done unless you want that. Drew owns this space and has worked hard to get this going and now everyone can see why. It's a personality that belongs there,...if you don't have one, you'll get one as you walk out with your brand new hair style. Black & white photos surround the space with low lights, nothing bright and up in your face (sometimes we all need that when we're trying to change our style up). This place is GREAT! To start off, The Suite Barbershop has a FANTASTIC appointment scheduler all done online, making it fast and easy to get an appointment. I really love this about them since I've had horrible experiences at other barbershops and having to wait up to an hour before my cut starts, even though I called beforehand to confirm I'd be coming. This is NOT the case at this place. As soon as I came in Danny was ready for me. Drew (Andrew), who is a barber there and I later found out the owner, was very welcoming along with the rest of the staff who are just as friendly. To top it all off, they have an assortment of hair products that are great and aren't pushed on you like other places try to do. I haven't even gotten to the haircut itself yet. Even though it was my first time there, Danny gave me EXACTLY what I asked for and from what I could tell by the other people in there, all these guys can cut! Beautiful establishment and Mauricio is the man. The place looks nice and clean. It has a minimalist lay-out and the rooms feel a lot larger than they are due to the well laid out decor. The waiting area is great. It gives you a spot to relax before your session without being all up in the face of customers or the barbers. The music was hip hop and was playing at a level where it could be heard BUT you can still have a conversation/consultation. If you're looking for hair to be all over the place this ain't the place for you. Due to technical difficulties we got rolling late but I don't care, he more than made up for it with his time and attention to me this day (computer thing, it wasn't his fault). He made sure that I got his card to prevent that in the future. My goal was to get my beard rolling right. Mauricio greeted me and took me to his chair. Got me set up and comfortable and then we got into my desired look and overall goals for the visit. He let me know how realistic it was and we even made adjustments to my goals and set up a plan that should realistically help me accomplish them. He let me know how to maintain it until my next visit in a couple of weeks. I love how he set up my beard and the plan that we layed out. I can't wait till WE (he definitely let me know that I have to do my part) are done with it and I see what my beard looks like in a couple of months. It is pretty clear to me that The Suite Barber keeps safety very seriously AND still tries very hard to satisfy customers despite the difficulties, which makes me feel safe and happy while getting a haircut. The price is worth it. If you can afford it this is the only barber shop in the DC area that gets how to f****** cut hair. I personally don't think it's that expensive but get that we all budget for different priorities. Make this a priority. Want a fade, need your beard tightened up, need a botched hair cut fixed when you tried to go cheap? They can do it all. If it's your first time, there are actually two "rooms" to the shop so you may need to ask who your barber is and where you should wait if you're early. read more

I've been to many barber shops all over the dc area in VA, MD and DC, but this is hands down the best barber shop in the DC area. I drive at least an hour, sometimes even longer, to get my haircut and the drive is always worth it. You don't have to worry about which barber to book an appointment with, they all will hook it up with a fresh cut that will make you feel great when you walk out the shop. Some people may think $45 for a cut and beard trim is expensive, but you won't even think about the price twice after one haircut there. When you think about it, cutting hair is an art, would you rather have Picasso cut your hair or some random joe? The barbers here are like Picasso, so don't think twice about the price. read more

The pros and cons of my experience: Pros. -Like the poster "Sean M." stated, Andrew has a certain knack for pairing the facial type with the hair style type. -Andrew greeted me with a nice frosty beverage -- a first in my experience and something unique to me. -Andrew asked what I usually go with for a hairstyle, and without hesitation, translated my string of words into the palette of perfection that was my hair. -Easy parking -The haircut was even, no stray hairs sticking up, the finish was great and detailed -- time will be put into your haircut -Received many compliments about my haircut from colleagues. Cons. -Cash only, though I think they were working on getting a CC machine? -Sign/business is a little difficult to find... This isn't your AARP barber shop (not that there's anything wrong with that). With hip hop playing in the background and all fairly young barbers, it has a different type of vibe. Despite pushing 47, I didn't feel out of place and they were all extremely welcoming. The location is about a 30 minute trip for me from Gaithersburg, but it was well worth it, as I received an awesome beard trim and shave from Mauricio. After growing out a full beard for 2 months, all I had to do was tell him I wanted a Van Dyke, but professional and squared off, and he knew exactly what to do. He took his time (the appointment, which I booked online, was supposed only for 20 minutes but he took 40 minutes) and the results were excellent. Loved the hot towel and hot lather shave with the straight edge. The whole experience was $20 (without tip), which might be a bit more expensive than "regular" barbers, but still extremely reasonable and a great value compared to any of the upscale men's grooming places that are popping up. Will definitely be back for touch ups to keep the beard sharp! read more

I really was not pleased with the haircut that I got from Andrew. I have been looking for a good, consistent barber since moving to the DMV area four years ago. I was encouraged when I came across this shop since it has such great ratings. So I was quite surprised when the haircut didn't turn out the way I would've preferred even to the point where I was trying to convince myself after leaving the shop that it wasn't really that bad. But soon I came to the realization that it was as bad as I initially thought it was...maybe even worse. One of the reasons for my 1-star rating is because I specifically explained to the barber what I was looking for and the style that I preferred and he didn't do anything I asked. I even showed him pictures of what I liked and even a couple of pictures of what I didn't want because I have consistently noticed that barbers make the same mistakes when cutting my hair and so I tried to be as descriptive as possible to avoid any such mistakes with this barber. But unfortunately, neither of my requests were followed as I got a haircut that was completely different from what I asked. A barber once told me that a bad haircut can ruin your week. Kelvyn proved to be a highly skilled barber. After an initial consultation, he went to work on the fade and even cleaned up my beard. While he maintains a cool, casual back and forth with his clients and colleagues, he is secretly extremely detailed with the clippers and straight razor. The appt lasted well past the suggested 30 minute window, which shows his attention to detail. Other shops typically spend more time "finishing" the cut: using a hair dryer and the product of the customer's choosing. That said, it was 7pm on a Thursday. Still, I would appreciate the option as barbers often have great styling tips or allow you to try new products. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at the Suite and will be back. A clean, well designed shop. While I was not offered an adult beverage or a hot towel or other unnecessary frills, I was given a great haircut at a fair price. One odd quirk- the suggested tips seemed a little high (starting at 25%). But Kelvyn certainly earned one. I will be back. read more

Be forewarned.. Been here twice. And both times was cut by owner andrew victor. He supposedly specializes specifically in fades and designs thats why i wanted to try this place out. 1st time was decent. Greeted as normal but was not offered any refreshments as some have described. Not a hard cut , showed him a picture of what i wanted. He was average friendly in the first visit , he asked questions and tried to make conversations. His price was $35 which is steep for a haircut from my normal barber. 2nd visit .. Scheduled an online appt. came in early. Greeted as usual but this time it seemed like he didnt feel like he wanted to be there from his facial expression. I had scheduled my appt for 12pm . When he was ready for me. He asked me what i wanted again i showed him a picture of what i wanted , it was a more of an intricate design than my first visit and he said ok and i asked him if he had any suggestions he said no. Long story short my hair came out a totally different design than the picture i showed him. I told him this looks way different than the picture i showed you and his response was "well The design was more intricate so it requires more time" I said to myself wtf. He basically told me that for next time I have to choose the option for haircut and beard trim . I didn't even bother to get into it with him because I did not want to make a scene. I dont understand why he didnt communicate that information in the beginning when I showed him the picture before proceeded to cut my hair . Not only did he screw up my hair i went out to my car afterwards and i was bleeding on the designs portion of where he was carving out with the razor . What a disaster!! Horrible communication, lack of personality, he did not say a word on the second visit, he appeared like he was high like he was on drugs or something and he seemed very moody like he had his time of the month thing. Everything that others have experienced was not the case here. I definitely will not ever come back to this place again. If the owner doesn't respond back to this review that I'm leaving for his business obviously he doesn't take pride in his craft. I have better things to do than leave a long ass review but the experience was so bad i had to leave it so others know what theyre getting themselves into and if i can save others time from this experience im sure they will appreciate it. I just moved to the Silver Spring area and found The Suite through Yelp. I had been visiting the same person to cut my hair for the last 6 years and this was way out of my comfort zone but was well worth it. I scheduled a cut and beard trim with Mauricio on their website. I had the confirmation within 30m and my appointment confirmed. Extremely easy and efficient. I arrived and found parking and went into the shop. Definitely a cool interior and unique location. Great vibe from the moment I walked in. Mauricio was great, he made me feel comfortable. Talked to me about what style I liked and took an amazing amount of care throughout the cut. This was my first shave and beard trim in a proper shop and it was well worth it. The hot shave and beard trim has my beard looking more well kept than it ever has. I highly recommend taking advantage of their expertise. I am already scheduling regular appointments for my next cuts. I am happy to have found a great barber and shop in my new area. Suite Barbershop is quite a hike for me from Baltimore but worth the drive. I am very particular about my hair and have been looking for a place that is affordable, convenient, welcoming and does a fantastic job. I have tried over 15 places during College and post-grad and Suite Barbershop is hands down the best. I have had Mauricio, Kelvyn and Danny and each have provided great service. They listen to your wants and needs and seem to care about all of their customers. Not too much to add to what others have written about the quality of the cut. Special thanks for the warning about being on the lookout for the shop, though. He does have some signage up but I would have flown by if I wasn't paying attention. Parking is in the back (at least on Saturdays). It seems like he is closed on Sun and Mon. I've been in search for a good barber in the DMV for quite some time. I previously had a great barber, but he was inconsistent on keeping appointments(canceling last minute, never stayed at one location, etc. etc.) I've been coming to SUITE barbershop for a few years now. Extremely easy setting up appointments. You simply go on their website scroll down to the bottom of the page click on the, "schedule" box then from there you would choose the barber of your choice, pick the type of cut you want, haircut, facial trim, or both. When selecting your barbers you have quite a few barbers to choose from. I've always chosen Franky, a young man but you can tell he is dedicated on his craft! I would always see people getting their beard trimmed, or shaved. I've always told myself one day I would like to try it out... Pros: Friendly barbers, artistic atmosphere, always good music playing in the background! And more importantly amazing cuts! They do except all major credit cards, but it's always best to bring cash! After trying a Barber shop in downtown Silver Spring, I decided to look over yelp before getting my next cut. After reading the reviews about The Suite, I decided to give it a try. I made an appointment for 2 hours from when I called (a Friday afternoon) and told them I didn't know any of the barbers when asked if I had a preference. Parking was convenient, they have spaces in the back. The shop itself was pleasant, comfortable, and well decorated. Mauricio offered to cut my hair, since one of his regular clients was late. I told him what I had in mind and he went to work. I usually don't talk much during my cuts, but he was polite and we chatted a bit. A few minutes later his regular showed up. I was struck by the fact that he didn't try to rush my cut even though he had another client for that time slot. He continued to work meticulously and did a great job. My cut came out just like what I had in mind, and he even straightened the lines on my beard without charge. The price may be a little more than some of the other places in the area ($25) but definitely worth the extra couple of bucks. If you're looking for a new barber definitely check this place out, its worth the quick trip up Sligo ave and you'll dish out the $25 with a smile. read more

After a year and a half of playing Russian roulette in Hair Cuttlery and other disappointing experiences, I finally found my barber. I went there for a haircut appointment with Franky, he was nice to me and took the time to make sure I was getting what I wanted. It felt really professional and at some point I just decided to trust his judgment on the details of the haircut. I got excellent results and I'm definitely coming back. Tips: The entrance is on the back of the building, there's a small sign but it's easy to miss. It's really easy to schedule an appointment through their website and you can choose who is doing the cut. Some other reviewer pointed out to bring cash but Frankly has a credit card reader on his phone, I don't know about the other stylists. read more

My hipster 15 y o son, who is really into his hair, absolutely +loves+ the cuts he gets from Kelvyn at SBS. He's had a couple of different looks over the years, and Kelvyn nails each style--perfectly--every time. I love their online appointment system; it is very efficient. The barbers here take their time and do it right. They are all very kind and courteous. They are meticulous with hygiene, but the shop is small, so if you want to, you can get cut outside (they even have a heat lamp next to the chair). The owner said he saw pictures from the Spanish Flu where barbers moved their chairs outside, and he did the same. Very innovative. read more
