Typically use a different barber in the area and, because of a work schedule conflict, wasn't able to secure an appointment with my primary locale I had used 8k years ago and decided to give them another try. At first I was confused, as their location seems to have changed (ok, likely changed years ago and I'm just now catching up), but I kept following my GPS just til I saw their new storefront just down Wisconsin. I immediately recognized the staff so I was in the right place. I didn't have an appointment, and I was walking in maybe 45 minutes before close, and I was quickly accommodated. And let me say, I was thoroughly impressed with my haircut. So impressed, that I will be taking a reluctant teenager back there this weekend... Clean, courteous, efficient - a tad bit more expensive that my other location - but I now have second place to go to for a men's haircut. read more

I recently moved to Bethesda at the end of the summer and immediately looked for a good barber. My first day here, I decided to take a chance on 8K after reading so many great reviews. After visiting myself, I will keep going back for the rest of my time here! My first time here, I just went for whatever barber was free first, which happened to be Luckee. I only waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. Luckee was fun to talk to but clearly knew what he was doing. There were also 4-5 other barbers who all seemed to have very happy customers. After my cut, I was extremely happy with results and decided I'd come back for sure. Since then, I have made an appointment with Luckee every time, just calling about an hour before. However, I quickly realized he can get a little busy so on my last visit I decided to sit at Thang's chair. Thang was so quick. I probably was done within 20-25mins. He was nice but not super talkative. My only complaint is I couldn't see what he was doing until it was over, but when he turned my chair around, I was more than happy. A simple low fade with a trim off my top. I will continue to come back here for all my cuts. read more

I can't stand the idea of spending $30 for a haircut, so I've tried a few of the more affordable barbershops around Bethesda. While I frequented one for a few years, the quality seemed to drop and I went searching again today. I gave 8000 a try for the first time with Lucke as my barber - Best experience I've had in years! I actually forgot to look at the prices when I walked in, but was pleased (and a little surprised) to see the men's cut was only $17. The barbershop was clean, albeit a bit cluttered with wires, scissors, and all of that stuff. The news was on and there were a couple other barbers hanging out waiting for customers (~1pm on a Tuesday). The location is a quick, easy walk from the Battery Lane parking garage. Lucke (I'm hoping that was his name - that was the name on the mirror) knew just what I wanted after looking at a couple old facebook pics I showed him. The cut wasn't rushed, but didn't take forever. In the end, my sideburns and neckline were cleaned up with a hot shave, which was again surprisingly, followed by the hot-towel-on-the-face thing (clearly I'm super refined). Everything was awesome and the cut looked great. As with any haircut for me, I readjusted it a bit when I left to make it a bit messier, but that's normal. When I moved here, I had a hard time finding a barber I really liked. Every barber I went to cut my hair like I asked but for some reason I just didn't like how it came out. One day I tried this place and Brian cut my hair. He did a very clean fade on the side knew how to take just the right amount off the top to make it look clean but still have enough (important for guys like me who are losing hair up there). What really won me over is that, after he was done and it already looked pretty good, he was like "oh wait hold on" and went back to clean up a few spots. He did this about 3 times which really showed me he's very detailed and really cares about his work. The result was one of the best haircuts I've ever had. On top of being very detailed, he makes good suggestions. I started combing my hair to the side and he suggested a "hard part", which I love and now have added to my regular haircut. Even though I'm one of his many regulars, Brian remembers me and exactly how I want my hair done. Brian has been the only person I let cut my hair for the past 1.5 years and I plan to keep it that way even though I'm moving further away. Parking was a bit tricky to locate There are some meter parking spots in front of the store, as well as some located behind the building. I believe parking is free on weekends. I decided to stop by here for a men's hair cut. The place is clean and well-lit, with some chairs and magazines for those waiting. My barber was sweet, polite, and struck up a conversation while cutting my hair. Every barber has their own style and I don't fault those who don't speak while they work. She asked me how I wanted my hair and confirmed with me before cutting. I'm not that great at speaking to barbers, but she was very patient with me to figure out what exactly I wanted. I was satisfied by the result! They don't accept credit cards, so bring cash. A men's haircut is $18. Circumstances bring me to the area roughly twice a month and I wait until I am here to get my haircut. I like each barber so I always feel confident that I'll get a good cut but I've recently become particular to Thang if he's available. He pays a lot of attention to small details and, somehow, I never get the annoying little cut hairs down my shirt. I also have gotten compliments on my haircuts which is not something I used to get and I kind of like that. Finally, I don't tend to splurge on myself. The current price of a men's cut is $25 and that is the upper limit for me where I can still leave an appreciative tip. I highly recommend 8k Barbershop. read more

From looking at all the good reviews, I thought this would be a good place to get a haircut. I went in and asked for just a shape up. I made it clear that I did NOT want a lot taken off and put emphasis on the fact that I just wanted a shape up, however now I look like I am about to deploy in Afghanistan, not a bad look, just not the look I was going for. The people here are very nice, but I did not get what I asked for and it is going to take a while to grow out this nut cut. It is the absolute worst hair cut I have ever gotten. read more

I've been in Maryland for about 24 hours. Being in the military is only a few times where you can actually grow facial hair long enough to get the opportunity for a straight blade razor shave. I called a few hours prior and asked a male on the phone either Brian or Lulu and asked if they do straight blade shaves? of course they said. no appointment needed just come on in. Being new I parked in the wrong spot and they were kind enough to show me where I could park due to all the crazy signs and time limits downtown. The place had a friendly almost family atmosphere and even some regulars The Barbers knew their names. I was super excited because it is been so long since I've had enough hair to do a straight blade shave. I had Nary. She seemed new based off of the other barbers had a huge turnover compared to her. My haircut was pretty good. Nothing special. When it came down to the straight blade shave she started off by clippering down my beard, a common thing. Then she busted out these little brown Clippers and start going over my face saying that this was better. I kept trying to explain to her, like I said in the very beginning that I wanted a straight blade razor shave. She told me that the Clippers were better and closer. After she was about halfway done she then told me that she is not good with the razor that is why she did the Clippers. I told her if she would have said that from the beginning I would have waited for any of the other three Barbers. Then she started to blame the fact that they were so busy and that's why they wanted to do the Clippers instead of a blade shave. She took the fun out of a straight blade shave to this military man for the next several months I'm extremely disappointed. I feel like I cannot go back there again. All the excitement of finding and fresh new barber shop that I could spend the next 3 years at is gone and the search continues. read more

For mostly bald guys like me, we don't have many reasons to get to the barber. I normally have my wife cut what hair I do have with clippers, but she's out of town and I wanted to get cleaned up before joining her on vacation. Since I always do a terrible job, and was wanting a professional shave for my face since I'd never had one, I headed out to the barber. I intended to go to another place in Rockville that I'd found on Yelp, but I was tired and didn't feel like going all the way up the pike. As it turns out, I passed 8000 Barber Shop and turned the car around. I work in Bethesda and have passed this place dozens of times, not ever noticing it. I figured why not, they're open, right? It's a small, pretty standard barber shop, which is what I was looking for. Seems like a family owned place, and everyone was really friendly. I decided at the last minute to get a full shave on my head instead of clippers, so I was set up with the expert (think her name was Helen) on the straight razor. She did a great job getting my whole head and face cleaned up with a straight razor and hot towel, followed by a quick scalp and shoulder massage. Overall it was a great experience, relatively quick, and very felt wonderful. If I'm in the mood to pamper myself again, I'll definitely be back there. read more

In my experience the owners are excellent and that's who most of the 5 star reviewers have had their haircut from. However, not all the barbers are nearly as good. Some of the barbers are clearly new and not up to par. For example, I just had a haircut today from a lady who gave me a military style haircut when I asked for a simple fade. Bottom line: go for the owners and it will be 5 stars. The others may not be as good. The problem is that this place doesn't have a culture of waiting for a specific barber plus it's become very busy so you will wait a long time for the better ones. It's hard for a top place to sustain itself when business increases. Naturally they try to hire more barbers to keep up but they just aren't up to par. read more

I always go to Luckie but the other 4 are just as good and handle women and small children very well. If Luckie is busy Brian(owner) is the next best.
