I have been going.here for over 12 years because of their kindness and great service. After cancer surgery on my nose I could not shower for a while. i asked the owner Bill if he could shampoo my hair with the hugh bandages. He did and would not charge. sometime later I was undergoing major chemo for cancer. My hair was falling out in chunks. I asked Michell, one of the barbers, if she would remove all of my hair. She did a great job and then did not want to charge me. I told her I had cancer but was not broke. I insisted on paying and she has cut my hair for the last 12 years. If you want a good haircut, a fair price, and terrific people, this is your barbershop. They are busy but will somehow make room if at all possible. read more

Coming here is a trip for me from Rockville (either car or bus), but it's worth the effort and time. I've had my hair cut closer to home (places that are walkable), but it's more expensive and not a better cut. And one place told me my first cut would be $40 because my hair was long (it was an inch or two over the top of my ears) and that the price the next time would be $35 or $40 depending on the length. It seemed random. I always do walk-in here, and never have waited more than a few minutes. Always greeted pleasantly by Bill (the owner and first chair) or other employee. I ask for a simple cut - not too short, at ear line, part on this side - and have always been happy with the result. They always ask about eye brows, ear hair and do a good job. For me, the cuts go quickly, but I never feel rushed - they just work quickly and efficiently. If you want conversation, you can do that. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. There's no pressure either way. The price point is excellent. read more

People here, for the most part, know each other. It's always busy. Men's haircut is about $17-20, I alway give $25 so I know even know the exact cost. Quality cuts, quick, efficient, and friendly. I've tried this barber a half a dozen times and my experiences habe ranged from disappointing to infuriating. I have tried 3-4 different stylists with pretty similar experiences every time. I don't have much hait but even at my old barber the ladies would spend a good 15 min. This places feels like a rapid sheep shearing. Today was the worst ( same experience with same lady as last time). I think she was going for a new record and finished my number 2 buzz cut in what felt like 2 minutes (seriously). Paid $24! I think I've given this place enough chances. I'm looking for a better barber experience now read more

This is the place to go for an excellent cut. I was going to Rick's Barber Shop, since Rick was there. I went down the list, Rick, then Ramsey, then George. I stayed for a while with the new owners, but every time I left, I found a flaw. My son started coming here after a bad haircut at Rick's. It was a sad day when I walked through the door at Seven Locks Barber Shop. That said, it wasn't sad, when I walked out. FYI: Anna is the person that cuts my hair. Do you know how you can tell you have a great haircut? It is not when you walk out the door looking like a million bucks. It is after you wash your own hair and you blow it dry on your own. If it looks wonderful when you do it yourself, then you know it is a fabulous cut. I just had my haircut and today I did it myself. It looks awesome and I am so happy. I can't say enough great things about Seven Locks Barbershop and Laura in particular. I have been going for years and they are warm, friendly, and know how to cut hair. They are reasonably priced and the service is excellent. I look forward to getting my hair cut by Laura, but all of the stylists are excellent. I am now ready for my 2020 badge picture. I've been cutting my own hair for the last 10+ years, which has always worked out for me since I usually keep it pretty short; just use the clippers on back and sides and trim up the top, a double mirror and shaving razor for the neckline, easy peasy, and I've gotten pretty good at making it look good, to the point that people are shocked to hear I do it myself. This summer I've been letting it grow out so I can try some new styles, and with an event upcoming this week I decided now's the time to try getting it cut professionally. I tried this place out since it's near my job and it's got good reviews, so I was optimistic about coming out looking fresh. The good: my hair is cut. The bad: it's not cut well. It's clumpy and uneven with stray hairs sticking up. The sideburns are not level. The front looked alright in the mirror while it was wetted down and brushed, but a few minutes after I left I found it falling on my forehead looking choppy, some bits longer or shorter than others. My neckline, which the stylist spent a lot of time working on, is not an even curve and is higher up my neck than I'd have liked (though to be fair: I do have a small bald spot near the base of my head, which I usually ignore when doing it myself and tend to forget is there. She didn't say anything about it, and instead raised the neckline above that spot in spite of it looking less than ideal). My hair hasn't been this inconsistent since the very first time I tried cutting it all those years ago. A shame that I spent $20 plus tip on this haircut, as I'm going to have to trim it again myself to fix it. Based on all the other glowing reviews, I have to think that this was just a fluke, and that I was unlucky enough to get the one bad cut in a million. Regardless, based on this one haircut, I will not be returning. read more

Sue is the one who cut our hair a- she did a great job and was very friendly. I have been coming here since I was around 14. In that time I have switched barbers at this location 4-5 times and left for a multitude of reasons. The main one being that the majority of the time they completely botch the most simple haircuts leaving it too short or one part longer than the other. Other times they rush and make mistakes if they have others waiting even if you have an appointment. I would not recommend coming here for any type of haircut if you want a good one. It's probably a 30% chance they actually give you one you are happy with. Especially if you have a big event like a wedding or anniversary and would like a good haircut... do not come here they will mess it up and rush. Take your business elsewhere coming from someone who has been coming here for a decade. This was the last time I will be receiving a haircut here. read more

Went in for a woman's haircut and Laura washed, cut, and blew dried my hair and it looks fabulous. I have fine slightly wavy hair and I am not easy to please...but I am very happy with this cut and she blew it exactly like I asked her to which is unusual for a hair stylist. I like a natural look with no part and lots of bangs and blown dry to look casual. I need lots of layers and she knew what she was doing. 5 stars for Laura!!!! read more

The worst haircut I have received in my life. I asked for a medium fade and the lady giving my haircut just took a razor and scissors and cut it straight up so now the side of my head looks like a wall of varying lengths. Also extremely strange and unorthodox techniques when they give any type of fades. Ive been here twice and barely ever write reviews but feel inclined to because the latest time ive been here was so bad. I went to Seven Locks Barber Shop for the first time today and had an unexpected great experience. I normally go to a salon but all I needed today was a quick dead end trim and didn't feel the price of a trim at a salon was worthwhile. I walked into Seven Locks without an appointment and without knowing any of the stylists. I was paired with Sue and she did a fabulous job! The cut is flawless, she blow dried my hair to perfection, and she was super sweet. Of note, they only accept cash tip so make sure you have some on hand. This shop, run by the locally-beloved Bill, who has been around for more than 30 years, is a remarkable place. There are typically as many as 8 barbers/hairdressers working at any given time serving men, woman and children. Bill keeps the shop and the customers moving as if he were managing a train station, with great efficiency. As for himself, he has cut multiple generations of customers' hair. Everyone does a great job and for men's haircuts, Bill charges less than $20. The shop is open 7 days a week. There's convenient parking nearby. Appointments are available by phone, but many people just walk in. read more

Unsanitary at best. I was tired of paying top dollar at my regular salon for a simple haircut, and I wanted to give Seven Locks Barber Shop a try after visiting a parcel service next door to it. I checked the reviews and noticed Laura had received accolades. It has been about a year since I scheduled a cut with Laura to trim two inches, attempting to replicate the slight layering of my existing almost-shoulder-length cut. The first sign of something going wrong was Laura washing my hair: she used her fingernails on my scalp (no gloves). I wish I had left at that point. Then she spent about 30 minutes trimming my hair. Some think this would be a sign of great care and detail, but when a hair stylist knows what she's doing, it should take less than 15 minutes for a simple cut. The resulting cut was not bad, but it definitely did not keep the layers and shape of my usual cut. I paid my bill and tipped Laura, realizing I would never be back. Then I got home and my scalp began itching out of control. Long-story-short, I got folliculitis on my scalp from the bacteria under her fingernails. Because I addressed the problem immediately with medicated shampoo, I avoided having it get out of control. read more

I was able to walk in on a busy Friday and got Nhung right away. I was a bit skeptical at first because I had never been here before, but she did a great job with my haircut. She did a low-fade cut, with a shape-up on all edges. It wasn't too extreme, just a simple light fade where the hair starts to "disappear" halfway through the back of the head and sides. Nhung had the friendliest personality and paid close attention to the small details. An extra plus for being really careful around my ears since I have an industrial bar pierced on each. I wish there were more barbers than stylists on deck, though. That's been my problem ever since I moved into the MD Burbs: finding a reliable barber that has a wide range of skills & the ability to use straight edge razors on your head. Trust me, there's nothing better than the smooth, clean feel a barber's straight razor leaves you after getting a nice skin fade. Why am I having such a hard time finding a decent barber in the Southern Rockville area? Ever since my usual barber, Nick's, apparently went out of business a number of months ago, I've been bouncing around looking for a decent cut. When I walked into Seven Locks, things looked promising. The place was busy, with a wide variety of male, female, and children customers. A lady in the corner eagerly beckoned me over. I described my cut, which is not complex: about 1.5 on the sides and 2.5 on top. After cutting the sides, the stylist said something about using scissors instead of clippers on top. Okay, I figured, she must be some kind of old-school scissors master. I let her snip away, thinking, wow this is how they used to do it 100 years ago. Then she finished and showed me the mirror. It was way too tall. It looked more like 3.5 and was no where as sharp or short as with other cuts I've had. She agreed to take off more. I looked again. There were noticeable uneven bumps ("horns")on both sides of my head. She went to work again, and I checked again. My whole head was generally uneven. It looked like a three year's attempt at drawing a circle; it was one of the sloppiest cuts I've ever gotten in my life. But I was sick of waiting, and she was starting to look a little exasperated. To top it off, she didn't cover me with the apron very well, so there was hair everywhere on my shorts, legs, and shoes. Plus, they don't accept credit cards here.
