It's NYE and I needed to get my haircut for an event tonight, I ran in Afrikutz after reading some of the reviews. As soon as I came in I was greeted which is always nice since some barber shops don't do that. I was told the gentlemen (Joe) was in the back and could help me, I was a little concerned because its NYE and I figure the barber shop should be packed but it wasnt...cautiously I approached Joe and told him what I wanted. He was cool, said he could do what I requested and did a fantastic job, I only wished he cleaned it up with a razor blade, some barbers do this and some don't so it really was not a big deal. I am a woman with very short hair and I had been going to Afrikutz for well over a decade. I was often the only female in the shop when I went, but always felt comfortable and welcomed (no foul language, inappropriate or disrespectful conversations or behavior taking place). Oscar had become my personal barber, because when I first started going there I had some serious scalp issues (I'll spare you the details). But suffice to say I was very tender headed, and very self conscious of my scalp condition, and my extremely short hair (which was not by choice). Oscar always took extra care of me, giving me hot towel treatments, and being extremely gentle because my scalp was so sensitive . . . and always made me feel beautiful when I walked out. Although I stopped going there a few years ago (because my scalp finally healed and it was more convenient, and cheaper to have my husband cut my hair) Oscar has continued to be our family barber. When my father is in town Afrikutz is the only barbershop he goes to. I had an aunt visit a couple times and needed her short natural hair trimmed and shaped, so I took her to Oscar. I now have a son who is almost three, and the only person who has successfully cut his hair is Oscar (daddy tried . . . but Oscar had to finish it up). TL;DR: the old fool destroyed my line, maybe he was drunk. Really don't get cut here if grey haired chair is open. I've waited a while to write this review, since the holidays came and went and I've enjoyed the time with my family, now I can deal with this. This shop is filled with talented barbers. But if you come here, and the oldest fool In the shop has the only seat open. Fucking leave. First and foremost if his coworkers hadn't berated the man he would have never laid an apron over me. I sat in his chair, in a dress shirt and this guy just starts trimming the sides. In seconds I'm covered in my own hair. He cuts on. Meanwhile the fade is well done, however when he decides its time to take on my line, this motherfucker pulls out his phone and answers a call... while doing my FUCKING LINE. head slanted, tilted to the side, his eyes are old as it fucking is, and this fool decided he could hit my shit at an angle. He cut off half of the first dread I. The center of my forehead... it's fucking hanging by a thread essentially. I understand hair comes and goes and fortunately for me my hair grows just fine and I can fill in my loc eventually. This guy fucked me. I paid, gave him a goodbye tip, and left. Moral of the story, don't come here if you want to be cut by barbers that CONSISTENTLY deliver results. read more

Really great guys, nice and friendly. The only problem I had was that they did not accept credit cards.

Amateur hour. Got a beard trim, "barber" somehow drew blood using only clippers. Uneven, messed up my line and equipment is junky. Won't see me back here. read more

I am a lady and I get my neck faded by the owner every other week. Excellent care and work!

Was visiting from out of town and decided to check this place out. First off, he didn't know what a bald fade was so I didn't risk it with him. Somewhat decent cut but the customer service was terrible. When he was done, he gave me a mirror to check it out. I told him I wanted a small adjustment and he wouldn't do it because his 20 years of experience knew what was better. My goatee trim wasn't symmetrical at all so I had to even it out myself at my hotel. Needless to say I won't be back again. read more
