Carb overload is the word, we had the lunch special which is great $7.95 with drink included. I had the meat balls with spaghetti, salad and it came with yummy crusty garlic bread (garlic, butter and oregano...no garlic salt). They do things right, I hate when they put garlic salt on bread and throw it at you as garlic bread! The meatballs were meaty and you could taste the hearty flavor of pork and beef but it needed a little seasoning. It was a good meal, great deal with good prices. Simple and great service. I picked up salad and pizza. Salad dressing was missing. When I called to report this issue, the young man that answered the phone passed the phone to a woman who was very rude. I used to visit this restaurant frequently when the original owners ran the place and I loved it. This is the first time I returned under the new ownership and I was extremely disappointed in the customer service. The pizza is not as good as it used to be. Small, cute place with tasty food. And if you're eating outdoors, you can bring your dog! I have enjoyed everything on their menu but we go particularly for their pizza and wings. Knocked off a star because seating can sometimes be an issue since it's so small inside. Rainy days and really hot days are NO GO for me. Beware, I've been a patron prior to the change of ownership. I've visited w/ new ownership and the food is just as good and was happy to see the same servers remained. Yesterday we decided to return and support. I was disappointed to see the nice server was gone. The women who took my order was what appeared to be "over it" and they had just opened. I asked for the lunch special of spaghetti w/ the side of meatballs that comes with garlic bread, salad and drink. The total was more then the new higher "lunch special" price ($11.75) I asked how much were the meatballs she said it's on the menu. I saw she was not going to change my order so I paid $15.66 I gave her a $20 and she gave me $2.34. I knew that's not right and she walked away advising a patron was exiting the bathroom and I needed to move. I waited as she went to the kitchen and I kept my money in hand to avoid a dispute. She returned to take my coworkers order and I asked for the $2 she shorted me. My coworker asked for the same special as I ordered as well as our 3rd coworkers order and paid by card. When our meals arrived they did not include salads. We realized she charged us for individual spaghetti w/ side of meatballs and the drink separately. Upon leaving my coworker placed an order to go and ordered the #5 specifically that is the spaghetti and a side of meatballs for $1.75 extra. The order was exactly like ours with a salad. Yet, we paid more for the same and no salad. She knew exactly what she did and did not advise of the difference when we stated we wanted the "lunch special." I understand Covid affected your business however do not trick the patron to make up your loss. We agreed within our office we will not return for 6 months as it's about principal. Lastly, upon reviewing the website, it was the owner who practiced unethical customer service. I gave 2 stars as the chef did prepare good food. Buyer beware. read more

Ive been coming to this cute little spot for years now and Im not gonna lie, the service is not the best but we really like the antipasto salad here (no olives please) and the Genovese's special pizza. I have to agree with the other review, if you sit outside you're pretty much on your own I saw this yesterday, the waitress came out, picked up the tip grabbed a few dishes and went back in and left the rest of the dirty tables, I would still recommend this place if you just want to grab some pizza and enjoy the nice quiet neighborhood. read more

The quality has always been amazing and I am happy to see the restaurant getting lovely updates, but still keeping true to its original identity. Just ordered from genovici's on doordash. What a disappointment!!! At one time their authentic Italian food was good original and tasty!!! I was a regular there many moons ago when I lived in El sereno. I just thought of genovici's today and look to see if it's still was operating on main Street in Alhambra. Since it was still there I I ordered a three topping pizza a child's meal and meatball sandwich. The child's meal was supposed to come with bread and meatball a soda and a small pizza. When you arrived to my home they only gave us pizza everything else in the child's meal was missing!!! The the other Pizza that I ordered tasted plain!!! Too much tomato sauce and it felt as if it was made in a hurry!!! The the meatball sandwich was decent but overall the food was very plain untasteful and far from authentic Italian food !!! I will continue ordering pizza and Italian food from Pizza Man in eagle Rock!!! Their food blows away Gino beaches at a better price l!! read more

I've been coming to Genovese's for over 20 years and this is the 1st time I can say the pizza was very disappointing. I realize things have to change, but to look forward to what I always tell people is one of the best pizza in town to be just ok. Pizza was surprisingly thinner then ever. Paying over $30 for a medium pizza with very little toppings and I will never add sausage again. sausage is cut so small now it's not worth the extra charge. I should have open the box when I picked it up, but didn't. There should be a podium outside to pick up to go orders. You feel like your in the way waiting for your food to come out. I also heard a couple asking for their pizza to go after all because it was taking to long and the waiter walked outside before going to kitchen to check on their pizza. We have been coming here for over twenty years. The food has always been delicious. The restaurant is under new management and they have begun changing up the menu. This is a great idea, but may be too ambitious. After 45 minutes of waiting for our order, I requested that all of our orders be canceled except for the penne, which we'd take to go. Without arguing or inquiry, they packed it up for me and then charged me for one of the more expensive plates that we had cancelled. read more

Haven't been here for a couple of years , and recently came on Mother's Day for brunch with my family. Food was good and attentive customer service. Sat outside, plenty of umbrellas to provide shade and our luck it was a nice sunny day. I had the arugula salad which was yum. Want to go back again soon for lunch to get pizza! read more

This place has take a turn for the worst. Used to come here during my CSULA days during lunch time. Decided to go for lunch since my girlfriend and I saw that they had renovated and now we could eat outside even while the virus is still going on. She ordered the lasagna and I got the lunch special spaghetti with meat sauce (which no longer comes with the salad although they raised the prices). The server was horrible. She was young in her 20s and did not look like she wanted to be there. She wasn't even dressed properly. I understand most places aren't serving food to your table but you're still on the job you should still dress the part. She gives us our drinks before the food arrived, which was fine, although the food took about 20 min to arrive which by this time all the ice in the drinks had melted. The lasagna was ok but the spaghetti was a disaster. There's not much one can do to mess up spaghetti with meat sauce but they found a way. It was more like spaghetti with SALT sauce! It was extremely salty and the garlic bread was extremely salty as well! And I only had a warm coke to wash it down. It was very disappointing. The old owners had a very good deal with the lunch special, the waiter was always nice and courteous to us, and the food was never this bad. Safely won't be going back now which is disappointing since it's so close to our home. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 is because the patio they have is nice. read more

Nice try Tom, I was eating with a friend one table away from you and your 2 female guests. You arrived after we were seated and you didn't wait 40 minutes for your food like the heavy set girl at the table was complaining to the waitress about, not even close!!! Yes, we paid attention to your conversations because all the girls were doing were bitching the entire time my friend and I were trying to enjoy our lunch. We were one step away from telling y'all to shut your traps! What a bunch of BS!! I hope you and the 2 big gals don't come back to the restaurant. She is slow, unresponsive to requests, and proceeded to remove plates while still eating the meal. Repeatedly. This is a shame, as the restaurant is charming and the food is tasty. 2.5 stars. I don't mind rock music that leaves a metallic aftertaste in my ears but having a meal that leaves you with chrome breath isn't very cool! Less than $10 here gets you a pick of almost every item on their menu. I chose the linguine with clams and marinara sauce. It came with soup/salad, garlic bread and a drink. The minestrone soup was quite good but my linguine contained clams that tasted like they lived in cans longer than they lived in sea shells ....NOT that I was expecting fresh clams here but I just didn't expect the metallic taste to linger for so long. So yeah, I left with carb overload and chrome breath. Next time, I'll try their pizza which will probably earn them a better rating that they truly deserve. read more

This place needs a big lesson in manners & customer service if they want their business to survive. I came in yesterday with my boyfriend. This place is tiny as hell & there was only 1 small table for 2 available but it was still dirty. We stood there for 5 minutes in the middle of all these ppl & did not get greeted or asked to wait a couple minutes while they cleaned the remaining table for us. Nor did they make any attempt to clean the table. A group of 3 walked in behind us & it wasn't until then that any of the waitresses noticed us. By this time we were all huddled in the middle of the room blocking space. A waitress finally rudely told us "Can you all wait outside so we can clean this table??" First of all it was freezing outside, so I just said out loud, "It's fine we were just leaving!" If they don't learn how to treat their costumers with common decency & respect then I will NOT be surprised when I see a For Sale sign on their door. I don't mean to be harsh but I've tolerated their terrible customer service for years just because I like their food & it's decently priced. McDonald's has better customer service than this place! I'm NOT joking... Please think twice before coming here & definitely do not come here if you see it's already crowded. Charlie's trio is just down the street ! Aww man, please tell me it isn't so. Not sure if Genovese's is under new ownership or new management. In any case, the place is just not the same. I have been going there with the family since 1981. Up until now you could always count on the food being great. My dish was the old style sausage sandwich. The bread was about 3-1/2 inches wide and about 12 to 13 inches long. I ordered it tonight and the words that came to mind were "ridiculously disappointed". First off the sandwich came in a brown cardboard wax box that looked like leftovers for my dog. It used to come in aluminum foil that trapped in the awesome flavor in until you unwrapped it and ate it hot. The sandwich was lukewarm and flavorless. Those boxes are for leftovers not for fresh food. Some of the ingredients used in the meat were missing. It was bland and no longer tasted like their traditional great sandwiches. The new size was about 2 1/2 inches wide and 8 inches long. This is so sad, this is skimping 101. If this place does not return to its old way of making food I guarantee they will be out of business in less than a year. I know the food industry I am in it. And we focus on making the food better not cheaper. This is an old-school Italian restaurant not a New Age hippity dippity hipster spot. Stop trying to make your food different for the culture and stick to what works. Shame on you new ownership or new management. You better wake up before your customers do. With a Genovese's huge pizza, you'll need a lot of fellow eaters to make a sizable dent in this monster Jumbo Pizza Besides, the place is rather small on the inside, so it's a matter that if you're going to dare attempt eating that huge pizza, you're better off just taking it home where you have some elbow room The Jumbo Pizza is the reason to come here. It's great if you need to feed a large group of people and the quality doesn't go down with the size increase. Price wise, it's pretty comparable to the standard pizza joints and you keep the taste for the price point. I have tried the lasagna once, it was pretty good but I think the same thing every time I order Lasagna, why can't I have more. So while it's good, for my taste it's a bit small on portion size. read more

After reading all the bad reviews on yelp I still stopped by and gave Genovese's a chance . That was a "horrible" idea, service was okay but food was just bad not smell and looked old. I tried the 12 piece wings they where so bad that I had to return them literally lost my appetite and left with out eating .
