I stopped by Genghis Grill recently, and it had honestly been years since my last visit--so I was curious to see how it held up. The core concept is still there, which is what I've always loved. You can build your own bowl by choosing your protein (I noticed options like chicken, sausage, meatballs, and steak), then decide on your base--noodles, rice, or cabbage--so it's really customizable depending on what you're in the mood for. One change I noticed is the sauce setup. They used to have the full DIY sauce bar where you could mix your own combinations, but now it's been streamlined into a selection of signature sauces. It definitely makes things quicker and easier, though I did kind of miss the creativity of mixing your own. They still cook everything up on that big Mongolian-style grill, which is always fun to watch and adds to the experience. That said, the location could use a little TLC. The dining area felt like it could benefit from some upkeep and refreshing--it just didn't feel quite as polished as I remember. On the positive side, the service was great. Our server was really friendly, did a good job explaining the updated process, and stayed on top of drinks the whole time, which I always appreciate. We like this location. Usually not crowded lots of parking close by. We were greeted when we entered and told to pick where ever we wanted so chose a booth by the windows. Our server was so sweet she got our drinks quickly she asked what base we wanted seeing that lo mein noodles(are favorite) wasn't listed on the menu asked if still was an option, she said yes which we were happy about. Since we knew what we wanted(medium bowl) went to counter where we were handed our bowls we piled it high with meat and veggies. I like their sauces and filled 2 small containers for them to add when cooking. Our food was cooked quickly. I felt it needed alittle more sauce so went back and got another container to add. We hadn't been to this location in years. My daughter wasn't in double digits...she's almost an adult now. She wanted to go so we went. The location wasn't busy. The location looked clean and the environment was nice. We were greeted and given the instructions on how to get our food. We got our protein, veggies, sauces, etc and gave our food over to the grill people. The good was prepared in about 5 minutes or so. I enjoyed my bowl; my daughter, not so much. We really like Genghis Grill. Especially when the birthday bowl perk arrives in the mail. It's worth it to get the app and sign up because it's a BOGO. You get a little stainless bowl and walk down the self-service food line, helping yourself to the raw proteins, veggies, spices and sauces. The goal is to pile enough on to make a meal that Henry the Eighth couldn't finish and have enough leftovers to take home for tomorrow. I've seen some creative construction done in that food line. I did allright by picking vegetables that I like but don't usually have on hand, like water chestnuts. I concentrate on a good mix of the basic food groups. Beef, chicken, pork and seafood. Sprinkle seasonings on them and get a couple of cups of sauces to suit my palate. After handing my bowl to the chef, who deserves a nice tip (for with he might bang the gong), he will cook it up for you and have the server bring it to your table. So, if you don't like your meal, you really have nobody to blame but yourself. We'll, unless the cook overdoes or undercooks it. I have always loved the Genghis Grill concept! Was happy to find one still open in the DFW market. Both of the two units near us (Grapevine) closed in the last several months. This location is clean, well maintained with a nearly new appearance! Everything was well stocked and looking fresh! As you likely know, it's a Build-Your-Own Bowl place. Bacon, sausage, beef, chicken, pulled pork, shrimp, salmon, calamari, and more for proteins. Literally every vegetable you might imagine as well as an incredible variety of spices and sauces to create your perfect dish. Our waiter was very good, as was the grill master. I personally would prefer to have this style of cuisine alternatively but the experience was quite fun. The ingredients were fresh and there were plenty of toppings or sauces to choose from. We got the unlimited bowl option, which was genuinely a decent deal. We were a bit bummed that they had no tofu that day as we are a group of vegetarians. The chefs were kind to clean the grill and make space to cook the food in a vegetarian only section. The interior of the place is decent, although there are some booths with extremely ripped seats. Be aware that if you order your bowl with both rice and noodles, you'll be getting a small amount of each, the bowl won't be as packed as it would if you only got the rice. Don't order the quesadillas to go because by the time you get home they'll be really soggy and not as good. Those are better when you dine in. Plenty of parking, convenient location, staff was nice & helpful. $26 for unlimited bowl and they have a lot of options (proteins, veggies, sauces) to choose from and they serve adult beverages. Whew! When I tell you this old favorite was everything I needed after a super long day. Came to this location for an impromptu date night. We were sat immediately and drink orders taken. I got the Blue Dragon and it was so refreshing, yet strong, made me feel like I was in the islands. Once in line to make my large bowl, I loved the new variety of proteins available. I was able to try something different than normal, the salmon addition was spot on! I also love that now the broccoli is cut up instead of those huge florets, that made it hard to keep them in the bowl back in the day. This was my first time here, and what an experience it was! The food was absolutely delicious. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't crowded, so we got to place our orders quickly. Our server promptly brought out our bowls. Curious about the empty ones, I asked, and he just smiled and told me to trust the process. I did, filling my bowl with fresh meat, seafood, vegetables, and spices. To top it off, I selected three different sauces to boost the flavors. Our bartender/waitress Shontique was very attentive and personable. She made our experience perfect. The bowls are fairly priced and I always just go with the medium. It's enough for me. My girlfriend gets the small. She gets full with that. We sat at the bar. They have two TVs. Only downfall is they have NO beer on tap. If you are a beer lover this is not your place. Aside from that, the food was delicious, and cooked well. They have a lot of protein choices and veggie choices for the bowl. I recommend the new carné asada it's delicious with the udon noodles. I hate giving these types of reviews. They just earned it. I can confirm the negative reviews of this location. It was dirty. The service was horrible leaving people to just stand in the doorway while servers were writing down notes on paper then proceeding to enter the information from the paper into the wall POS. There was a $2.50 small bowl special for today only. I waited over 15 minutes and couldn't just go sit at the bar as I was a solo tonight. I had to wait in the line to give my order first, yet three other parties in front of me were seated and provided menus. The "host" came back and said that I could now go sit at the bar and he would come back and take my order. I sat at the bar and used the menu that was sitting in the corner. And looked it over. Host came back over and I showed him I wanted to get the special. I showed him the app. He tried explaining email to me. Frankly, I've been using email decades before he was born. I explained to him that their system was not sending out the confirmation emails and showed my Inbox and Junk mail. Other emails were being received. Nothing from GG. Then, Mr. Customer Service told me that without the coupon I would have to pay the full price, not the 50% off special. I asked if he was serious. Even after showing him the app, the confirmation request, and the message stating an email had been sent (just like I did over 20 minutes earlier). Showed email again, refreshed, and waited more for delays. Refreshed again. Mr. Customer Service said I would have to pay the full price. I left. The food hasn't been as good since before the change and pricier offerings. Not worth further waiting. I'm going to save GG from ever having to read a review like this on Yelp from me. I don't care if someone from GG offers me free Bottomless Bowls for the next 5 years, they will not see me again at this or any other location. This was the second strike. The bowl for the protein and veggies even the large is not as large as I remember. It was actually fairly small. Not a lot of noodles either. Service was just passable. Nothing great. Think the guy was annoyed that I asked him to repeat himself. Whatever. Then I got the check. $27 for the "large" bowl seems INSANE. It's definitely not worth $27. You get the Clover machine to pay and the tip options are 20%, 25%, 30% or something like that. Starts at 20% though. No, this was not worth the money. So..... they claim they sell Mongolian BBQ. The system looks similar, but the options of what ingredients you can choose is really bizarre. I mean no offense- it's the most whitewashed Mongolian BBQ I've ever seen. Carne Asada, Bacon, Calamari, Chimichurri Chicken... but no proper pork slices. No soy sauce or chili oil, but there is cheese sauce or "3G" sauce. No chopsticks either. I was so lost trying to create my bowl cause everything was so different in a not-so-nice way. It felt like BWW opened a Mongolian BBQ branch. Service wasn't really sincere either. Environment was typical. But with the food being so bizarre, I think it wasn't that relevant. I dunno. If you're looking for the typical Mongolian BBQ experience, avoid. If you wanna see what Mongolian BBQ is like with max-level Americanization, stop by. It felt a little bit like betrayal ngl. I've gone to a couple of different Genghis Grills and I will say that this location is the better of the few. I ended up going to the bar to order since I was getting my order to go. The bartender was very friendly and nice. As I ordered, he almost made the mistake of charging me the regular price and not the price for lunch. He quickly redid my ticket and offered me a free drink for his "almost mistake." Lucky me, right!? The thing about Genghis Grill is that you can't go wrong with your order, because YOU make it. The only way that it could go terribly wrong is if THEY don't cook it well or if they just flat out give you the wrong order. Thankfully, I didn't have to go through that. The food bar was stoked and clean. My food came out piping hot and tasted just as good. The establishment alone was busy, but had a healthy buzz: not too loud and unbearable. Wow. Well I'm from TN and I wanted to try the location here since I always have bad experiences back home. I was immediately impressed soon as I walked in. The place was so clean. It's never clean back home in Memphis. The bar is normally dirty and flies flying around. This location is the totally opposite of that.
