    Water coming under our door.
    Nick S.

Writing my first review in ages because my experience here was so terrible. Early on my second day my stay was ruined when a pipe burst and half of my floor was flooded. It took close to an hour for it to stop. Water was coming under the door of our room when it finally stopped. Power was shut down. It felt like being in a post apocalyptic movie. Also. No employee came around to let people know this was happening. It was still early enough where people in my room were sleeping and I had to wake them up. Who on Earth would want to stay somewhere after that? I still had two nights left and asked an employee about a refund. She said they had been told from up above not to give refunds. I asked her if she would want to stay if she were in my shoes. She said of course not and gave me the email for the general manager Cedric Decaudin. I emailed Cedric and asked about a refund. His response was that the pipe burst was beyond their control and they weren't giving refunds. He also said that the leak had been stopped and acted like everything was fine. The last time I was there, roughly 7-8 hours after the flood, the power on the first floor was still out and there was still water all over the place. The reception desk was vacant and they were using the bar to check people in. You know, the bar I paid to be able to use as part of my fee, was closed because of the flood. Not exactly back to normal now, Cedric. Is it? I don't care if the pipe burst by accident, if it was from gnomes or if Cedric Decaudin went in there himself and smashed it with a wrench. When something like this happens, the business is responsible no matter what caused it. I have said this much to Cedric and like the coward he is, he has not responded. You would have to be a fool to waste your money on this place. They do not care about your satisfaction, they just want your money and as far as they're concerned you can piss off. The end.

Generator Hostel was so much better than the other hotels I've stayed in, which is a big compliment considering it's not even a hotel. I have to be very honest though that I stayed in one of their private rooms so i didn't get the hostel experience of sharing a room with complete strangers, as well as sharing a bathroom. I stayed in their penthouse room, with a private bathroom and impressively, its own private terrace overlooking the neighborhood. It was the same price as a regular New York hotel room but so much more beautiful. That penthouse room was gorgeous in design and the same can be said for the whole hostel, everything is just so hip and gorgeous. The best part of my room is the electrical outlet near my bed's mini foldable 'table.' I was able to recharge my iPhone while resting on my bed. The bathroom was also gorgeous. Just a word of advice, you might forget that Generator is still a hostel so do note that you are only given one free body wash and the rest after that, you need to buy. And also, you need to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste. Another thing you need to remember is that food and drinks are not allowed inside the room. As their room rates are lower than other hotels, they probably do it to keep cleaning costs low. You can always eat something at their cafeteria, which also has wifi and whose food and drinks are reasonably priced. It was a little expensive (only a little) only because the dollar is lower than the euro. As for other memorable things, they have a laundry room and a gorgeous 'work' or chill lounge with plenty of electrical outlets. This is becoming a trend now in hostels and even hotels, they dedicate spacious lounge areas that act as living rooms for all their guests. Another notable thing is their frequently roving security personnel just to make sure everyone is a guest of the hotel and everything is in order, which made me feel more comfortable. The staff is super friendly and I only know maybe 10 French words and it wasn't a problem as they spoke perfect English. What I especially like about Generator (which seems to be common in their other international locations) is their dedicated 'tourist help desk.' Being a first timer in Paris who only had three nights to tour around, the tourist desk was more than helpful to teach me which subway to take and which areas to see. The cafeteria staff also were super friendly and helpful in giving advice on what to do and where to go. Some online reviews say that this hostel is not central enough for touring around. I kinda disagree, while it's not in the center of Paris per se, the subway station is a street away so that's such a huge help. I am a New Yorker and I appreciate how much of a big deal a nearby subway stop is. Overall, staying at Generator Hostel was the best decision I made in Paris. It's better than most hotels I've stayed in New York of the same price range. And, because of the super friendly and efficient staff, in three days, not only did I fall in love with the Generator brand but with the city of Paris as well. 2 tips: 1) while the hostel is near a subway stop, if it's your first time visiting Paris, when your flight arrives, just spend for a taxi to get to the hostel. Don't subject yourself to additional stress after being tired from a long flight. If you don't speak French, the subway might be hard for a first timer. 2) the hostel also works with a shuttle bus service to bring you back to the airport upon checkout. The price was super reasonable.

Good morning Pariis!! From our kinda crowded but comfy room
    Ceren C.

It is one of the nicer looking and clean hostels that I stayed in yet I think it's too much of a chaos going on here, the service with anything is just so slow and tangled. The room is clean and even though it's a ten people room it doesn't feel packed. I was staying at the generator Rome a couple of days ago and for the exact same breakfast they ask you to pay much more here which I don't really understand why. It could be nice if the staff was a bit more treating people as people and not boss around but it is what it is... place is really cool yet very much based on only money and not really caring about customer happiness at all. Still for the location and good building it is bearable for a couple of days. Definitely worse than Generator in Rome.

I liked a lot of things about Oops Hostel: -fabulous neighborhood. It is close to most of Paris's touristy attractions, lined with amazing cafes to eat at, and it is 0 on the sketchy meter which is really important to me as a single female. -beautifully decorated and designed (I love just looking at it) -great staff -free breakfast that is decent- the coffee is mediocre but you also get croissants and bread which isn't too bad for a free breakfast -no lockers in rooms but lockers in the hallways which is convenient enough for me -VERY quiet. there is no bar attached to this hostel and they have a strict quiet policy at night. Invaluable for those who desperately need beauty sleep. This is not the place for you if you are the party-party type of traveler, it caters to a more mature crowd and most people here keep to themselves so it's not like you'll meet your new best friend here. I have to say the location and the quietness was what had me at hello- most hostels in Paris are in the sketch parts of town near Gare du Nord and that is why they are 5-10 euros cheaper a night.

By far the cleanest, most modern hostel I've ever stayed in. Free wifi, elevator, and co-ed rooms make for all the right ingredients. Easily accessible from the Gobelins or the place d'italia metros. Literally in between the two. What grinds my gears though is that from 11am-4pm you my friend are locked out. BUT- seriously, who hangs out in the hostel during the day anyway. If youre in Paris, you should be having the time of your life. The times I was ridiculously hung over and slept in til 2 they didnt bother me. Perhaps it was the smell of liquor. They furnish sheets, and a pillow which are changed daily. 1E for the towel, bring your own as theirs are crap. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom. The kichenette has tons of little things to help you get by if youre so inclined to cook, and there is a supermarche right across the street. Great little neighborhood with tons of bars as well.

However, I decided to reserve a private room instead of a dorm room because I wanted more privacy while still getting the hostel experience. I highly recommend booking a private room if it's within your travel budget instead of the dorm room, especially if you're traveling solo or as a couple. Trust me! After a long day exploring Paris' many historical sites and museums and riding around the city in crowded metro trains, you'll want privacy to relax, rest, and unwind without strangers coming in and out of the room throughout the day and night. If you have the extra money to splurge a bit, I recommend booking a private room. Overall, the hostel hasn't changed much, if at all, since 2016, except for a name change, but it's still charming, an excellent place for all travelers, and close to many restaurants, stores, and metro stations. If you're a bit older (40-50+) and prefer a more relaxed and quiet hostel experience, you can find that at Les Piaules, but it will be loud on the nights scheduled for events like karaoke (Monday) and music provided by a local DJ (Friday and Saturday). The hostel (bar/lounge) is quiet throughout the day and allows for a great a working space with free wifi throughout the hostel, including wifi in your room. The hostel staff is friendly and helpful if you have questions about Paris. You can also purchase breakfast in the morning at the bar. There is a Franprix store a few minutes walk from the hostel, so you can get water, food, and snacks to bring back to your room. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a farmers market steps from the hostels' front door. I'd stay here again if and when I return to Paris because it's reasonably priced and close to many stores and restaurants, including a laundromat (10-minute walk) in the local neighborhood. I also enjoy the vibe of the hostel. Whether traveling solo or with friends, I think you'll fall in love with this hostel. It has a comfortable, friendly, and safe vibe with a great social space (bar) to meet other travelers. Safe travels!

Here is my opinion: Pros: - clean - friendly staff - relatively convenient location (Les Piaules is sandwiched between two metro stations, which puts you at a less than 30 minute commute for most places in Paris that are north of the Seine) Con: - rooms are small and I found it awkward when I had to sort things in my luggage as other people would then have no room to walk - rooms that are towards the far end of the hall are noisy at night because of the Hostel's proximity to the main street I would say that the right living quarters is what diminished my experience the most as I found it inconvenient to move around in the room. Final note -- it seems that the neighborhood is somewhat of a ethnic enclave for the Chinese community in France as there are large Chinese grocery markets, restaurants, and more in the area. This was quite a delight for me as I was able to get authentic Chinese dumplings nearby when I got tired of the local French cuisine.

We had the Haussman apartments for the bridal parties to get ready hours before the ceremony which were large and well decorated, perfect for pictures. Our first look took place in a beautiful Parisian courtyard with our bridal party looking on from balconies above us. Les Salons Hoche provided us with a 1950's Rolls Royce and a driver to take us around Paris for photos (Bir-Hakeim overlooking the Eiffel Tower, and a side road with the Arc de Triomphe in the background). When we returned, our wedding took place on the rooftop, enclosed in glass and beautifully decorated. After the ceremony, we moved downstairs to another room for the cocktail hour with extra space in the courtyard. The reception took place in a beautiful, marble-floored room called Etoile. Every little detail, whether we discussed it or not, was perfectly done. They host a lot of events there, so when you visit before the wedding (we were there 4 days before ours) there is lots of work going on. On the day of the wedding though, the location is completely transformed with tasteful details (white curtains, flowers, candles, etc.). The food was amazing. We upgraded our food package (to "Prestige") and it exceeded expectations. Our guests, who mainly come from New York City and attend lots of weddings, raved about the quality/flavor/abundance of food during cocktail hour and during dinner. For dinner, we had the salad with lobster and mango (excellent), Beef Tenderloin (very well cooked unlike most wedding food), and Assortment of Cheeses (you're in France, of course, this is good :) ) , and the Cake (American style with strawberry inside - this was a huge hit with our guests). This was all made possible because of the hard work and excellent communication of Guiliana. She was amazing to work with and spent hours with us discussing the venue, food, timing, and all the small details. We worked with her across multiple time zones (9 hour time difference) and she always made herself available to work with us. Wedding planning can be stressful, especially from afar, but Guiliana made this an enjoyable experience for us. The true test of the success of a wedding comes after it's all over. When I asked my wife "what would you change about the wedding day", her response was "not a single thing",
