Hotel de Louvre
April 9-14, Paris France
We stayed as a family of four with our son 9 and daughter 10 on the second leg of our Europe trip, looking for a more elevated, centrally located Paris hotel experience. This stay felt much more like a true luxury hotel compared to our London base, with a polished atmosphere, strong service, and an unbeatable location right in the heart of the city.
Arrival and First Impressions
We booked through Hyatt using points with a Guest of Honor upgrade, though we did have to pay some additional taxes for the kids' second room. We reserved well in advance and secured connecting rooms, which worked out perfectly for our setup.
From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt polished and welcoming. Staff greeted us with water and towels and escorted us up to the rooms. The property itself is clean, fresh, and very well maintained with a bright, mostly white design that reinforces the upscale feel.
Our room overlooked the French Consulate, which was a nice and unique view. While very clean and well appointed, the room was still a bit tight by American standards. We had originally expected a king bed but were given two twins instead, which was a minor surprise but not a major issue. The kids having their own connecting room and bathroom ended up being one of the highlights of the stay for them.
The Highlights
The location is exceptional. Being directly next to the Louvre made it incredibly easy to explore, and we were able to walk to many of the major Paris landmarks. Having a train station directly beneath the hotel also made transportation very convenient.
The overall service throughout the hotel was excellent. Every interaction felt thoughtful and professional, with small touches like welcome gifts for the kids, anniversary treats, and consistently attentive staff. Heated towel racks and bathroom floors were an unexpected luxury that stood out during the stay.
Breakfast at Brasserie du Louvre was included and consistently enjoyable. The pastries and breads were excellent, and the croissants were some of the best we had in Paris. The French toast was the standout specialty item, though the kids mostly stuck with familiar options like pastries and eggs. Like our London stay, espresso drinks became a bit of a running joke since they were served in a different cup or glass almost every time.
The hotel bar with its stained glass ceiling was another memorable feature, especially knowing it was uncovered during renovations after being hidden for decades after world war II.
The Challenges
Even as a luxury property, the rooms are relatively small. The requirement in France for separate rooms for families added extra cost and was slightly inconvenient, though realistically the four of us would not have fit comfortably in a single room anyway.
There is also a subtle but noticeable vibration in the building due to the train line running directly underneath. It was most noticeable on the first day and then became easier to ignore.
The only real service miss came from a concierge dinner recommendation to La Fontaine de Mars, which did not match expectations and was not very kid friendly, nor did it deliver the Eiffel Tower view we were led to expect.
Kid Logistics
* Connecting rooms gave the kids independence and comfort
* Breakfast options worked well for simple preferences
* Walkable location made sightseeing easy and efficient
* Proximity to major attractions kept daily planning simple and flexible
Pro Tips / What We'd Do Differently
* Secure connecting rooms early when traveling with kids
* Expect smaller room sizes even at luxury properties in Paris
* Be selective with restaurants and make reservations far in advance.
* Take advantage of the walkability since many attractions are close by
Would We Return
Yes - for the location, service, and overall elevated experience, we would return, but the cost would be prohibitive without points.
Final Thoughts
Hôtel du Louvre felt like a meaningful step up in comfort and experience. It blends luxury service, thoughtful design, and one of the best locations in Paris. Despite smaller rooms and a few quirks, it delivered a memorable and very comfortable stay right next to the Louvre read more
