Five stars because of the staff. They really do listen, provide excellent service and try to rectify anything. I will add that you are paying for this privilege. The rates for a regular room, depending on the season, are probably just as high as the price of the Ritz, Meurice, Bristol, Crillon and a few other grand "Palace" hotels in Paris. So this hotel has a lot of nearby , legendary and five star competition. I decided to stay here because I am a Hyatt 'globalist' member, which means I get upgrades and a free breakfast. Plus I could pay for my stay with Hyatt points that I had earned. It's also legendary among travel bloggers as a point redemption gem, so am always reading about it. The location is ideal and you're just off the Place Vendôme, and the best shopping in Paris on Rue St. Honoré. I'm sure I'm going to get a few snickers from writing this, but I decided to try the Rossi airport bus from the Charles de Gaulle airport direct to Paris, stopping next to the Paris Opera Garnier. It's about 7 euro for a ticket. I was actually able to easily walk two minutes with my large rolling bags from the Opera Garnier station and check into the hotel. I know that sounds crazy (not getting a cab or car) when guests pay well over one and a half thousand USD a night for a standard room, but I was quite pleased. The hotel itself is very boutique like, but has about 200 rooms and suites total. Check in was very easy. I was early so they let me sit in the beautiful café with a complimentary drink. The hotel is done with very muted shades of cream and beiges with black and a lot of gold. The building is a classic Parisian Haussmann style that was once the couture house of Monsieur and Madame Paquin. The highlight of the hotel's decor are the bronze sculptures by Roseline Granet, which are everywhere; the public areas, the door knobs, the window handles and the opulent wall sconces in the rooms. I had a mid tier deluxe room, which was very comfortable, but on the small side. It's mostly impossible to have a Place Vendôme view, because the hotel is on the street not on the Place Vendôme directly, and from the best street view rooms you can only see it from the side. I requested a street view and mine was on a quiet back street. You could also get a quiet courtyard view if you like that. The bathroom is quite unique, and entirely made of beige marble with a seated marble shower with its own gold sink, in addition to the bathroom sink, and right next to a medium size bath tub. It was a gorgeous room with high ceilings and multiple settings for the lighting to suit your mood. I hate to say this but the public hallways and carpets are starting to look a bit dated, and the hallway decor needs a bit of refreshing. With the hotel at this price point, that is a necessity. My one dismay was the entire morning there was a lot of hotel wall drilling going on. When I complained to the front desk, as I had planned to sleep late after a lot of traveling, they compensated me with Hyatt points, which was kind of them. But hotel maintenance/repair drilling and noise right by the wall near the hotel bed should not be going on at a hotel of this cost and price range, which is supposed to be an ideal haven for city travelers. They should block out those rooms. It's just so expensive, there's no reason to subject paying customers to loud room drilling repair noises at 10am. On the other hand, the breakfast is superb, the breakfast room is lovely, there is a Michelin star restaurant, the fitness center is gorgeous and immaculate, and although the center terrace was closed because of the December cold, it looks beautiful and I'm sure is a great place to sit on spring and summer days. This is a more understated luxury hotel for the area. Of course, 3 of the most famous hotels in the world are just a couple blocks away so it does have some pretty heavy competition. I think it makes up for that with its personal, relaxed service. I can't say that it's supremely quiet as I did have the drilling problem but they did try to rectify that the best they can. This is an ideal location because you're so close to the Madeline and the Opera Garnier, and the best shopping in Paris. However, if you want a real grand Parisian hotel experience and you're paying full price, you might want to try one of the more famous and classic hotels next-door. If you love a more American style modern ambiance , big smiles from the staff, like to earn (and pay with) Hyatt points and enjoy impeccable service then this is a great choice. read more
