A great place to experience a night out in Paris, especially as a starting point - as it closes at 2am if you're down for a big night out go early (the line gets really long) then head on over to Pigalle for a late one. My friends and I used to come here quite often and loved it - but of late it's a bit more crowded which tends to ruin the relaxed vibe. However, if you've never been I would recommend a one time visit (at least)! Whilst it can be expensive when you and a group of friends each buy drinks - it's better to buy the bottle of thier specialty punch, to share, which tastes great (rum based and I'm not even a rum fan) and is super strong and goes down easily (so be warned). read more

Incredible place.. the drinks are delicious, the staff is friendly, and the ambience is out of this world. I've been multiple times -- for evening drinks and for a night out. My friends and I usually split a pitcher, which is definitely a good size for three people. The ti-punch is great, as is their cucumber fruit punch. The space is super welcoming and comfortable. Eclectic and completely unexpected. I'm not entirely sure how to classify this space. Bohemian haunt, gallery of mismatched vintage bits and African souvenirs, impossibly hip lounge, intimate cinema, tropical garden, popular Sunday brunch spot... ok, let's just call it what it is: quite possibly the coolest spot in all of Paris. It's where Paris' bobo (bohemian bourgeois) are seen (no darling, they aren't paying you or even you any attention). Artists, designers, writers, musicians... this is their haven and you're just part of the out-of-focus blur. I would recommend a cocktail to ease the pain of realizing you'll never match the coolness quotient of those around you, but that drink will do you no good. Mine was much too strong to enjoy and I only finished half. Beer, my friend, is your friend at Le Comptoir Général. This is truly a hidden gem in Paris that you have to visit when you are there! It is hidden between houses and garden and just such an amazing and creative venue. You can come here to chill and relax in the cafe where plants are growing out of the floor and the ceiling, or you can come to some special event like a vintage market, a farmers market, an africian hair salon, or a party where you can dance all night long. I find that this place is overrated if it's after 10PM, as the chances of getting in are slim and involve a long wait outside. Lets just say the bouncers are not the kindest and don't really clearly communicate reasoning for the wait or anything. (Is that mean for me to say?) However, for example, evenings they open at 6pm, so it's a fabulous place to go for a beer & snack around 7pm when it's still just open to anyone! Then you're set for the night even when it starts to get crowded! I also love going early because often they have delicious food, and it's before it gets TOO crowded.. Last week I had chicken curry and it was just to die for (10€ about for meals). It's a wonderful venue for events, with two main rooms and an outdoor area with much green. I went for the Cupcake Camp in 2011, and it was just lovely. In general I love the openness of the place; the knick knacks that cover every corner. It's simple & kitsch- even with couches and vintage this & that's. Long story short, I highly recommend popping in for a beer or cocktail in the early evening to avoid an unnecessary wait. read more

Hard to find any redeeming factors: ... half the main courses and several starters were unavailable at 8.45pm, waiter went awol for 45 minutes, drinks sat on the bar for ten minutes before being served, cocktail watered down, never offered drinks refills in 90 minutes, I've seen better Mac and cheese out of a $1 prepackaged box (it was $40!!), it was a treasure hunt to find the elusive lobster in said Mac and cheese ... probably better not to have found it given how tough it was, grilled octopus could have been better used as shoelaces it was so tough, ... and waiter incensed when we said it was poor service!! Coolest place to hang out in Paris. Friendly people, good music, and perfect execution of that French bohemian style of decor. There's a book and vintage clothing shop on the second floor, and a garden area with an authentic rain barrel. Go check to see if the fish are still living in it! My friend brought me here on my first night in Paris. She prohibited me from looking it up beforehand since she wanted me to take in the full effect of the place. Needless to say, I had no idea what I was in for! This place has so many influences ranging from kitschy to tropical to authentic hipster (lol). They also serve West African food here, which I thought was a really cool addition. I didn't try any since I was so full from dinner and on a budget, but it smelled delicious! My friends and I ordered one of the pitchers (26 euros), which contained about 6 drinks. I can't recall the exact name, but it had mango juice and rum; it was surprisingly strong but still delicious. In terms of drink prices in Paris, it was a pretty solid deal. The only downside to this place was the little amount of seating. Get there earlier than 9:30pm if you want a spot on the couches. It's probably also hard to find if you're not familiar with the area. The entrance from the street is just a random gate, and there isn't a sign. Overall, really great local establishment! read more

I went there with a couple of friends on a friday night. The building is very cool, there are lots of unexpected things like a "wizard lab" or the vegetation that is growing inside. I pretty sure it was an ancient school and they kept the chairs and tables. You can order nems at the bar but there are only a few different cocktails. But it is clearly not the point of coming here. What an interesting space! It's actually Huge, so not your typical Parisian bar at all. The antique décor on the interior is really fun as well as the skylights that let in just the right amount of light to give it that hazy and industrial feel. I went for Sunday brunch and it was pretty good. It's a great place to from brunch if you or hungry.. or maybe hungover. It's a huge amount of food and they have eggs! I especially liked the sausage. There aren't any choices though, you just kind of get what they put on your plate, so the menu may change, not sure. It's a fun place to take friends that you are in Paris visiting you due to the impressive and abnormal space it is. I definitely want to go back for drinks sometime. read more

Oh I can't even describe how much I love this place. It may not have the typical Parisian look but it surely is one of my favorites in Paris. First of all, I love that it's hidden and that you have to walk through a dark little alley before you see the majestic door that lets you into the booming building. There is no way you can discover this place by walking by it unless you have heard of it or you see other people sneaking in. The building has a great multi functionality with not only several bars where special drinks, beer and snacks are served but also a vintage market, a dance floor, a ghetto museum, a shop where you can by all types of products like weird things for in your hair or crazy looking plants and so on. You'll have to see the decoration for yourself because it is so fun and surprising and one of a kind, I haven't seen anything like it elsewhere. The brunch on Sundays completely fits the picture and the drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) will take you by surprise. It is quite pricy but I think it is completely worth it as this place gives you a unique experience.
