Waste of time! I tried to setup an appt. by phone but was told to email instead. No big deal. I asked for the next available date and time and the time was too early for my work schedule, 7am. I said mid-afternoon would work better for me and got 5pm. That doesn't work for me either. I realize I need to be more specific and asked them what date could you come anywhere between 10am and 3:30pm. I got no response. I followed up asking again, do you have and dates with this time slot and the response I got was "no, sorry". What a joke. We recently had water damage on one of our closet walls and ceiling, along with buckling to our hardwood floor. After researching some companies, we gave General Moisture Solutions a call. Greg was able to come out the next day to survey the situation. He was extremely polite, professional, and very knowledgable about the damage. You could tell how passionate he was about what he does, and it's clear his main goal is fixing your situation. Greg offered a fair estimate for fixing the moisture damage (which included removing some drywall, drying out the water and removing mold, and replacing the drywall). He was very knowledgable about how we were to best work with our insurance company. He even called them himself, to explain the exact damage and situation. After a few visits, the damage was repaired. I would highly recommend GMS if you have water damage. I am having some problems with window leaks from heavy rains. I saw that General Moisture Solution received good reviews on Yelp. I scheduled an appointment for Wednesday, August 9th for 12-12:30p. After 1:30p I sent an email to inquire if someone was coming. Later I saw an email for 3:48p stating that someone was here and rang the bell but there was no answer. Perhaps...that was right around the time that I left the house. I am reasonable and I understand that people can be running late. I am also used to contractors never showing up at all so I don't feel it necessary to wait around when I have other things to do. read more

I have a rental property in Chicago (my old home) and my renter alerted me to a leaky bay window. When I saw these great reviews I decided to call. Was happy to see others had such a good experience. Theses guys must be really busy because I called two times, left two messages. No call back. I sent a request for follow up over their email on their website. No call back. Finally, yesterday I called again and reached someone but the gentlemen on the phone told me that they were at an appointment and would need to call me back. No call back. I'm moving on. GMS helped us with a leak/repair last year when we lived in the city. They were quick, did what they said they would do, and came in at a lower price than other contractors. We recently moved to the suburbs and had some leakage in the basement, so my first thought was to call Greg again. He came out in the evening to take a look and saw that our primary problem was a sump pump that just needed a little attention. Rather than recommend a large repair or even an unnecessary pump replacement, he gave us his honest opinion, which saved us a lot of money. My wife and I noticed the other week during a rain storm that we had water leaking into our mud room from around our French doors. We didn't know who to reach out to so we did a search on yelp and gave them a call based on their positive reviews. We are so glad we did. Got ahold of Greg right away, who made it a point to stop by the same day to look at the problem. He quickly identified the cause and by that afternoon we had a written quote detailing the work to be done. By the end of the week, it was fixed! The crew was exceptionally careful when removing the existing door trim and frame. They fixed problem, put everything back together nicely and did a great job cleaning up. The overall price was very reasonable given the amount of work involved, and I really appreciated Greg giving an honest assessment of the problem without trying to up sell work to be done. We were in a pinch recently -- while selling our home, just two weeks from the closing date, we discovered a water stain on our first floor ceiling. Needing help FAST, we called a plumber, who could not find any leaks in the pipes. We then called Greg based on the great reviews we saw on Yelp and Angie's list. He came out ASAP, the very next morning, looked at the issue and told us his initial thoughts. He was very professional, looked over all the potential problem areas, explained everything he was doing and his thoughts based on his experience, and followed up that same day with a quote for the work -- to find source of leak and repair the ceiling. Once the source of the leak was determined to be the flashing/shingles over the bay window in the room, he immediately provided us a second quote for the repair to the flashing and shingles. WIthout skipping a day or missing a moment, his team worked outside and inside to put up new drywall on the ceiling, patch and paint, and repaired the roof over the window. They completed all of the work in under 3 days and put everything in good order. Everyone was diligent, reliable, pleasant and professional. We probably could have hired someone to do the work for a bit less $$$, but what we needed it done fast and correctly, and most importantly -- they provided us a 5-year warranty on the work (which stays with the property and is transferrable to the buyer) which is absolutely worth the money and exactly what we needed to ensure the buyers were comfortable with the resolution of the issue, allowing the closing to go on as scheduled. I have only lived in my condo for 5 years but had some terrible problems with leaky windows. I called Greg after reading the reviews on Yelp for GMS. He returned my call very quickly and had someone come out the next day to investigate the issues. Before providing me with an estimate, Greg asked if he could come over and look at things himself. When we finally connected, he apologized profusely and came out for a consult the next day, and even arrived early. Since then, he has not responded to emails or returned phone calls. Greg and Sven with GMS are a pleasure to work with. Greg came out the same day I called to give a repair estimate for a leaking sliding door and water damaged ceiling drywall below. He was confident in the cause of the leak and that he could fix it. He explained the issue and gave me several different cost options along with his recommended fix. I signed his emailed quote and they began work a few days later. Both Greg and Sven arrived on-time and quickly got to work. They came back a second and third day to complete the work and arrived exactly when they said they would both times. They covered the work areas in plastic to minimize dust and they cleaned and vacuumed when done. While they were at my condo I asked Greg for a quote to repair a secondary smaller area of drywall damage unrelated to his initial quote. The owner, Greg, was fair with his quote and delivered exactly per expectations and in some cases, even exceeded them. Greg from General Moisture Solutions is one of the most HONEST and straight forward guys that I've met. He is literally in a league of his own. I've used Greg twice. The first, was with a condo that I was selling whereby the perspective buyers had an inspector tell them we had water damage. I called Greg and asked that he come ready to tear out the wall and have his crew set for the day as we were looking to the matter fixed so we could close quickly. Greg showed up on time however much to my surprise told me that I don't have any issues. My relator even argued with him stating that there must be a problem and we need to do something to make the buyers happy. Greg refused. He said I will not do work that isn't necessary and instead offered to write up an opinion. Keep in mind his crew is at my place ready to work! I tried to give him money for his time and he refused that stating that "he'll make his money by doing quality work, in this situation you are getting the run around and doesn't feel right taking my money". WOW! Turns out he was right, there wasn't any issues rather the inspector's gauge was off and upon a second look there was no problem. The second time I had mold in my own home and wanted him to check the foundation that another contractor (who was at my house for another issue) told me needed to be torn up and serious work needed to be done. Needless to say I was nervous. My house was only 3 years old. Based on my previous experience, I called Greg to come take a look. Once again he showed me that I don't actually have a foundation issue and told me the real problem which had an easy fix. I was more then ready to sign up for a large project to fix what I thought was a major issue. He could have EASILY had me sign up for major work, without question. Instead, Greg further showed me a video of a similar issue at another property to put my mind at ease. He is a true professional and in this town is extremely difficult to come across. Phenomenal! First off, *great* communications from the quote process all the way through completion. Greg was open, honest, flexible, and before we even started the project, informed me of potential variables that could make the project bigger or smaller. I sent a request through their website, and received a phone call from Max the next day. We setup a time for him to come by and check out the situation. He was able to see the damage this leak had done. He informed me that he would talk with Greg, the owner, and that they would get me an estimate within a day or two. I received the estimate the next day. It was very reasonable for the work that needed to be done, installing flashing. I decided to go with them for the getting this fixed. After the heavy rains last Monday we noticed our bedroom carpet was soaking wet. I found Greg on yelp and called him at 6:50 am before he even opened. His voicemail was already full. He picked up the second time I tried calling and he and his people showed up a few hours later with drying equipment. He made sure I knew he would need to rip up the drywall to diagnose the problem. His phone never stopped ringing the whole time he was helping us- clearly others were in the same boat. Despite his busy schedule and mine we found a few times to meet up over the next couple of days. Greg and his team were always professional , up front about everything and super efficient. He was honest about what he should do vs. others and what we may want to ourselves (like the final painting). They were also able to diagnose the problem (clogged drains) and tell me what I needed to do to prevent this from happening in the future. I thought the final price was quite fair given the equipment we used and the services they provided.
