I hired this company for mold remediation and was very disappointed. The crew on-site was polite and super nice, but the process did more damage than the work itself. I was never told my built-ins would be completely removed, I only discovered it after the fact. Had I known, I could have arranged for proper removal, but instead they were torn out in a way that left them unsalvageable, costing me thousands to replace. Afterward, the company pointed to the notes fine print rather than acknowledging the lack of communication. If you use them, insist on a clearly explained scope of work. If you rely on professionals to help you navigate confusing home repairs, like myself, these aren't your guys. Update to response: First, I want to be clear that I don't believe Adam or the company ever acted with any intent to mislead me or cause harm. I think this situation came down to a lack of communication that unfortunately left me in a difficult position. About 90% of what Adam said in his response is true, but none of it directly addresses my actual concern. The real issue is whether the company made sure I fully understood the scope of work. Perhaps Adam thought... what idiot would not see it was obvious that the entire built-ins would need to be removed? Hi... it's me, I'm the idiot and truly I had no idea. I thought only a portion of my ceiling would be affected. Given the huge difference between what I understood and what actually happened, I believe the company should have explained this much more clearly. Like many homeowners, I rely on professionals to explain the scope of work in plain terms. I think that's a reasonable expectation. Adam is correct with my quote below but he left out the part where I explained that my issue was solely that I didn't know the built-ins were being removed. This was never clearly communicated to me, nor was I given the opportunity to remove them properly myself. Because of that, I feel my ability to make informed decisions was taken away. I only reached out to Adam directly later, after another contractor told me the closet could have been saved and that the removal was "unnecessarily destructive." Whether that's true or not, I'll never know. because I wasn't given the chance to find out. To clarify, the note about the built-ins wasn't hidden in "fine print," but it was only mentioned once in the "Other Notes" section. It was never discussed verbally, by email, or over the phone, and it wasn't included in the detailed action items. I don't think a single mention buried in a notes section qualifies as meaningful disclosure, especially when no one pointed it out or explained its implications. Perhaps Adam does. Lastly, the other points raised, like the quality of the closet materials, water damage, or insurance support, are not relevant to my concern. My issue has always only been about the lack of clear communication regarding the scope of work. Thank you. read more

We had a great experience with this company. Adam was at our house the same day the water damage occurred, got to work almost immediately, was very responsive and communicated well throughout the process. He made sure our house was still functional (e.g. kept our washer and dryer running) during the remediation process and helped us smoothly navigate the process from start to finish. I would recommend! read more

Great work and professional. Good at dealing with people and complications with project.

1 star - Would Not Recommend We hired this company to handle mitigation work in our closet following a roof issue. While they were able to complete the job quickly, the overall experience was deeply disappointing and I would not recommend them. The Good: They were responsive and able to get to the job quickly, which matters in a mitigation situation. The Bad: The work was messy and careless. Sealant ended up on furniture that was well outside the containment area, and when we raised the issue, the team showed little accountability or willingness to take ownership of the mistake. The drywall removal was also poorly executed. Rather than making clean cuts, they tore it out recklessly, damaging surrounding drywall that was otherwise in good condition -- creating additional work and cost for the rebuild team. The Dealbreaker: My biggest concern was their resistance to providing dry logs. Our insurance company required them, and I had to essentially argue with this company just to get documentation they should have readily provided. In an insurance claim situation, this kind of pushback is completely unacceptable and added unnecessary stress to an already difficult process. In summary -- fast response, but poor workmanship, little accountability, and a frustrating lack of cooperation on critical documentation. read more

These guys were great. Quick, thorough, and really helpful when we had a flooded basement. And very reasonably priced considering we couldn't make an insurance claim. I hope we won't need em again, but if we do I wouldn't hesitate! read more

What started as a positive experience ended very poorly. Adam was initially responsive and able to start the project quickly. However, early on there were miscommunications within the team that led to additional work and scope we did not agree to, along with issues discovered during the job (like leaking fixtures). After mitigation, when we moved into the insurance phase, communication dropped significantly. I understand they were busy, but responsiveness became a major issue during a critical time when we needed guidance navigating insurance. Things took a sharp turn when Whitney (co-owner) got involved. She was extremely difficult to reach--despite 15-20 calls, we never received a callback. Communication was limited to email and often delayed. The tone also shifted to heavy legal language, including lien threats, which felt unnecessary and stressful given the situation. We were previously told we wouldn't be liable beyond insurance coverage, but that was not honored. In the end, we paid more out of pocket just to avoid prolonged back-and-forth. Key takeaways: - Do not sign anything without thoroughly reviewing the contract--verbal or email assurances mean nothing unless clearly written in the agreement -Poor and declining customer service--especially during the most important phase - Use of pressure tactics and legal language that adds stress during an already difficult time A disappointing experience overall and a costly lesson learned. read more

Great job by Steve and Adam. After my upstairs neighbor had a furnace incorrectly installed, I immediately came to help and called the highest rated companies. Green Water & Fire sent Steve to my house that night. He even went upstairs to my neighbor's unit to figure out what the source of the leak was. The thermal imaging was cool and the report they sent was very thorough. A week later I was ready to start remediation. They protected everything very well. My kitchen was in a little bubble. My ceiling was soundproofed back in 2020 so they had lots of layers to go through. They dried the ceiling out for 3 days but came back every day to check the moisture. I'd never had to have water remediation before so it was a cool process to watch. read more

Adam and his team were great! I contacted them for 2 separate projects and they were able to come out for a quote quickly, document details for a quote, and work with me as I had questions regarding a moving timeline! They provided great communication and service! read more

I rarely write reviews, but Adam and the team at Green Water and Fire have been EXCEPTIONAL. When we experienced water damage in our basement due to a faulty HVAC installation, Adam and the team were incredibly responsive, helped mitigate the damage the next day, connected us to high-quality repair organizations, and even supported us navigating a complex insurance process. They were patient, thoughtful partners throughout the work, and I highly recommend them. read more

Adam and Steve are wonderfully supportive. My family needed immediate mitigation work done in our home for safety. They came right away, provided great quality work, communicated regularly throughout the project, and worked with me to develop a payment option that worked for my family. They showed they really care about their customers and individualize their approach based on the customer's needs. Highly recommend them. read more

Green Water & Fire responded quickly to my leak, but their billing lacked clarity and was misleading. I was led to believe the charges would go directly through my insurance, but when that fell through, I was billed for the full amount. There was no clear explanation of what would be billed under "mitigation" vs "restoration". Communication was limited, and I ended up paying a significant amount out of pocket because of their billing practices. I recommend asking detailed questions up front before committing. read more

We had a frozen pipe burst in our basement during the recent Chicago deep freeze. I contacted Green Water & Fire and Adam came out right away to check out the water damage and provide us with his expert thoughts/consultation. Adam was extremely communicative and professional, and was able to get started on water mitigation the same day, which was a relief to have the issue taken care of so quickly. The team that came out worked hard and efficiently, and was very courteous throughout the several day process. Adam even helped to walk us through what to expect with our home insurance and provided extremely detailed documentation and photographs for our carrier. I was most grateful for how patient and responsive he was in explaining everything to us and being available for any and all questions, since we had never needed to file an insurance claim before and the whole thing was admittedly a bit overwhelming. All in all, extremely thankful for the work Adam and his team did for us and would recommend them highly!!! read more

Being new to the Chicago area from Arizona, we were scrabbling to figure out who to call and what to do when our basement flooded after last week's big storm. Steve was able to come out right way and assess what needed to be done. Throughout the process of taking out flooring and wet drywall and drying things out, Steve did an excellent job of communicating what was going on and how long it would take to be done. As well as always letting me know when he was on his way, and when he had arrived. We are more than pleased with the job that Steve and Jamie did. read more

Richie and team were excellent to work with. They were very responsive, punctual, clear about the work and process, and very professional. The work was done efficiently and cleanly. Great containment area was set up around the damaged area to protect the surrounding room and dust in the rest of the house. The clean-up after the mitigation work was also nicely done. Adam, the owner, has also been very helpful and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend. read more

Adam and Steve worked together and did a superlative job organizing the mitigation work and making it happen very quickly and efficiently. They did everything that they said they were going to do, and did an excellent job. We are very satisfied and recommend them highly. They are very nice also, and easy to work with. This makes more difference than a person realizes when they are faced with a very difficult situation like their house being virtually destroyed by water. read more

When my basement-level den flooded, I made calls to several providers to assist me. Though Green Water was unable to calendar me first, their customer service is A+. Unlike any other company, they immediately emailed me a response, informed me of their wait list (unsurprising), and even referred me to another provider. Hopefully, I'll never need to call Green Water again but, if I do, they'll be at the top of the list. read more

Our upstairs bathroom flooded causing our downstairs ceiling to leak. Green Water & Fire was responsive from the first time I contacted them. Adam met with me and examined the damage and was able to walk me through what they would do, how long it would take and he answered all my questions. The crew did a great job not only drying out our ceiling in a reasonable time, they also helped identify an issue with our toilet that was contributing to the leak. Great service at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend Adam and Ritchie from Greet Water & Fire. read more

Green Water & Fire - The greatest water damage repair specialist EVER - Damage Restoration Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Highly recommend Green Water & Fire, I've unfortunately had 2 flooding situations in my River North condo and I did reach out to him for both. The first time they came out the same day and started right away with the necessary mitagation and demo. Adam is extremely knowledgeable and dealt directly with the insurance for payment. This more recent time, my tenant caused a catastrophic flood and then refused to move out. When things soured with the tenant, Adam was incredibly helpful and dealt directly with the tenant per my request. They did another great job with demo and clean-up and even recommended a great contractor for restoration. My insurance was just awful and gave me the run around and Adam patiently dealt with them. Despite having to wait almost 6 months for full payment, he never demanded I pay him directly. I appreciate Adam and his team and while I hope to never need their services again, I highly recommend them to others finding themselves in a stressful flood or fire situation. read more

There work was okay, but Adam's billing practices are nefarious. Came in with a quote of $75K and without saying a thing, billed for close to $250K. Adam triple billed and when audited by insurance, found most of their billing to be suspect. Save yourself some trouble and find a honest company. Additionally, they broke 5 windows in my house and painted over wood and tile floors. Sloppy operation. Sloppy billing. Sloppy team. read more

I had a rather urgent issue, & after being ignored by other companies, I found Green Water & Fire. I spoke to Adam, and he was understanding and responsive. Steve came out the next day. He was super thorough & and explained what needed to be done. They sent me a reasonable estimate & were at my home the next day. In the estimate, they provided contacts for people that I would need after they completed their work. I hope I don't need to use them again, but if I do, knock on wood, I will be contacting Green Water & Fire. read more

Green Water & Fire are fantastic. I contacted a few different companies on Yelp and Adam responded so quick. The next day Steve came out to review the damage, took photos, moisture readings and explained to me what where the problem areas and gave me an idea of what would need to get removed. They provided a detailed quote and were very professional and answered all my questions. Steve did an amazing job working with the insurance company and documenting every step of the process. From the demolition to the clean up he was there to answer all my questions and provide assistance. Highly recommend Green Water & Fire for any water damage issue you have in your home. Hopefully my condo does not suffer any more water damage, but if it does, Steve will be the first person I call! read more

My condo suffered extensive water damage caused by a unit above me. They were a local business and recommended by a few other condo owners in my building. They did a great job remediating the damage. They were quick to provide quotes and the necessary information that my insurance company needed approve the work. This incident happened back in August of 2021 and due to the shortage of contractors, I had a hard time finding a general contractor to do all the repairs necessary. They did have a recommended vendor list which included MG Residential. I highly recommend you do not use this general contractor. I made the mistake of using them and it's been nothing but stressful situation for months. My review is listed on Yelp for your reference and you can see for yourself. read more

This was my second time using Green Water & Fire, and each time I am glad I used them. Our entire basement flooded with backed up sewer water from the heavy rains this past week. Within 2 days (during a very busy week for them) they came out and started removal of anything damaged, and now, a week later, everything is fully sanitized and dried out. The communication is always good and their customer service is excellent. Adam is always happy to answer any questions and prove their value as well (I got quotes from cheaper companies before, but clearly they weren't going to be using all the proper methods). For me, I would rather pay to have peace of mind especially concerning mold and bacteria, and working with them always gives me less to worry about during a stressful situation. Highly recommend Green Water and Fire. read more

Excellent all around. Our basement with wall-to-wall carpeting got flooded from a backed up drain to the sewer main - major headache and nearly impossible to dry and disinfect in timely manner. These guys responded at midnight, inspected damage within 8 hours of the initial inquiry, scheduled mitigation for the very next day and all affected areas were under control within 48 hours. Carpet's been removed, area cleaned, sanitized and measured for acceptable moisture levels. We're ready to proceed with re-flooring project now! All businesses that provide any kind of home services should take note from these guys - they set the bar on communication and customer service VERY high! read more

Very responsive and professional company. Same day quote and service. Thanks for your great work!

Green Restoration was a life saver. After finding mold behind our basement base boards we called Green Restoration and a few other companies. My husband and I naively went with the less expensive company who only demolished the drywall but did not remove / treat all of the mold issues. We called Adam & team panicked and they were able to send a team out the next morning to seal off the area and begin removing / drying out the basement. Once the mold was removed they checked the fans daily to ensure our basement was fully dry before spraying sealant on. Only complaint we have is that at the end of the job they did not take all plastic used to cover the area & when removing some of the plastic/tape paint was peeled off the wall. Given we need to re-paint part of the basement after getting new drywall and insulation put in it is not a huge deal (although slightly annoying). Everyone on the team was extremely prompt and respectful of safety precautions during COVID (masks on at all times!) We will definitely recommend this company to any friends who run into a similar issue. read more

Bottom line: Adam and his crew are incredible! Excellent service and communication! We recently had a sewer backup in our basement on a Monday evening. The next morning I called Green Restoration first thing and Adam was out to our home within an hour. His crew arrived a few hours after that and by the afternoon they had made significant process. Every phase of the project went very smoothly. This was a difficult job and the crew, led by Dennis, was up for the challenge. The initial cleanup and demolition were executed quickly and thoroughly. The same can be said about the dry-out and deep clean that followed. All the while, communication and expectations were both very clear from Dennis and the crew. There was also a minor incident with some collateral damage during the project. Adam and Dennis were very responsive and helpful to take responsibility and resolve the problem. They certainly earned even more of my trust from their handling of this situation and it is much appreciated. Our experience with Green Restoration was extremely positive. I highly recommend them! read more

I have come back as a customer, to the owner Adam, and Green Water & Fire sad to say --- 3x's in the last 48 months. As they say, when it rains - it pours. I don't normally drop reviews as I feel most are either bots or someone's brother in law. The reason we keep choosing Adam and his staff is crystal clear: their responsiveness is top notch - dare I say in hours?!? When you have a water leak. At 4am. The next hour is too long. They don't waste time addressing the issue quickly and in layman's terms of what I might expect the next week. When you have a water leak, remediation companies somehow sniff you out starting with the big company plumber of choice. What sets Adam apart is is not just speed and quality but FAIR in pricing. We are not using insurance each time so we need fair and best. The transparency in their cost structure is something I truly expect and value. No BS when you need someone at the most crucial moment. Listen - to be honest I don't want to need remediation for water damage. It's like car insurance. You need it WHEN you need it. 5 stars for Service. Reputation. Quality of work. Most importantly, the owner Adam - just a hard working small business owner that understands every new relationship is crucial to the next relationship. That's how businesses should see each and every customer. read more

Absolutely amazing crew! They saved us and I am SO happy we found Green Restoration. Hands down, the best. This was our second time dealing with remediation (hooray, life in Chicago) and I wished we had found them sooner. Every step was explained thoroughly and communication was prompt. Even during the estimate, Dennis took the time to listen to all my questions. Steve, Shon, and Richie, took so much care in their work, with progress reports throughout including a look at a special thermal, Predator-like camera view inside my walls. All of them were so kind and careful with my belongings and working around my curious cats. Adam was in to check everything out and keep me informed with the process, so I felt very well-taken care of. Digital estimates and documentation helped everything run smoothly, too. Having been through it once before, this was a far better and efficient experience and they were an awesome, professional crew through what could have been a stressful experience! Thank you so much, Green! read more

I'll start by saying that I didn't end up using this company, as our previous contractor used someone he contracts with, but I felt this companies communication and professionalism was worth noting here. I reached out in a panic when we found out our condo that we are trying to sell was flooded from the unit above ours. We are 4 hours away and no longer live there. Adam responded quickly and provided so much great insight. He offered to go to our place at 10pm to check it out but He was patient as I told him we were trying to go through insurance so we needed to pause until morning. Even after I let him know we had decided to go with another company, he offered to help with information now or in the future. I really appreciated this professionalism and would absolutely use him in the future. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but while I hope never to have to hire these guys again, I definitely will be calling them first if I have the need. They came out fast, their prices were reasonable compared to the competition (cheap compared to what I expected), their written proposal was thorough, their work was complete and matched the proposal, and Richard (the main guy who came to my home) was thorough and conscientious. On top of all that, during one of his visits, Richard discovered a leaking pipe from some new plumbing work (because he was being thorough like I said) and I just got really depressed when I learned about it. Richard responded with compassion (a literal pat on the back) and when I thanked him later, he said only "it's alright man, I see people on their worst days, I get it." I was very touched by that. Edit: Huh, I guess I have written one review before, I don't remember that it was so long ago. read more

Green Restoration was a great company to work with during the stressful time of my home flooding. Adam was prompt with his communication/responses and was able to come out quickly to assess the work that had to be done. I had 2-3 other contractors and companies come out to assess the scope of work/damage and I can honestly say that I went with Green Restoration because Adam explained the entire process in a way that I felt comfortable moving forward. He worked seamlessly with my insurance company, which took a lot of the stress & pressure off of me. This was a big project (my entire basement of my home), but everything was done correctly, completely and within a reasonable amount of time. I would recommend Green Restoration to anyone in a similar predicament! read more
