Loved the pistachio gelato! Had pieces of real pistachio in the mix and found it to be super creamy and delicious 3.5 stars for me. Best Gelato 2022, really, I'm a believer. Only one small table and 2 chairs so plan on eating your gelato on the go. Their pistachio flavor was intense; like drowning in a sea of pistachio nuts. Pistachio ice cream in the past was always weak in flavor and disappointing, however, this one has given me hope for humanity. Their lemon sorbet was refreshing and intense. This is my favourite gelato shop. They provide excellent service and have lots of dairy free gelato options. During my last visit they had 12 gluten and dairy free flavours. They had an amazing creamy blend made out of mango and mixed berries, which was the creamiest dairy free ice-cream I have ever had. They have lots of sweet flavours including a rich dark chocolate and tart flavours like grapefruit and lime for those who crave sour treats. I opted for the grapefruit and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of our favourite places for gelato. The flavours are extremely similar to that of Italian gelato and everything is kept super fresh and flavourful. Upon entering the store you will have countless choices to satisfy your ice cream sweet tooth. I often get the containers with three flavours to bring home and last me for the week. Their fruit flavours are delicious so I definitely recommend everyone to try that out. The prices are reasonable. Since it is gelato expect to pay higher than your local grocer's ice cream brands but definitely the location is cheaper than some other gelato shops in the area with markup their sweets by quite a bit. This is hands down one of the best gelato shops in the city. I was in Milano for a while as part of a job placement, and this is as close as I can get to true Italian ice cream in Toronto. I usually come here on the weekend to get my ice cream fix, but today I could not resist! While I often try to switch up my flavours, I generally end up with my favourite: medium gelato cone served with Chocolate and Pistachio.  The place itself is pretty simple with very little furniture. This is not too bad since the shop is located right next to "Yorkville's stone" which makes for a perfect hangout spot on a sunny weekend afternoon. It's a shop in Yorkville, sooo... Tourist trap and poor value alert. Smallest size gelato gets you 2 flavors for $5. Medium is 3 flavors for $6.50 and large is $7.50. They have crepes here too, but sweet crepe only comes with nutella and bananas, no gelato unless you request an add-on for extra $. Pros- lots of vegan flavors! The entire front row in fact is dairy free! This includes dark chocolate and coconut flavors. Some of the fruit flavors contain tiny bits of real fruit. Cons- Generic flavors that are way too sweet! Pricy. They don't accept credit if order is under $10, but debit is fine. Only 2 tables for seating inside and none outside. My friend lives in Yorkville and referred me to this gelato store a while back. I personally thought it was called .GELATO, but I guess the name must have changed (somehow?). In any case, this is one of the top spots in the city to get gelato. Whether you are visiting to get a cone or opting for one of their take out boxes, I think this is where you should end up to get your hands on the "real deal". I visit often simply because I prefer to take gelato home, and this is the only place in the city where I can do this without getting judged, and without breaking the bank. Some of my personal favourites are Dark Chocolate, Frutti di Bosco, and Pistachio. I would definitely recommend any of these flavours if it's your first time visiting. Both the taste and texture seem to be pretty authentic based on what I remember from my time in Italy. I did see a picture about them charging $1 for a "trial", but I've ever had this happen to me. I've been hunting the city for a truly Italian style gelato shop, and I think this is it. Prices are manageable and expected of gelato in the city, the portions are standard, and the flavours are pretty interesting. There were uncommon ones like licorice, ACE (citrusy and carrot), as well as your standards like pistachio, chocolate, vanilla. The price for a cup and cone is the same if I recall, and even with a cup there's a mini waffle cone to complete your treat with a crunch. A scoop can have two flavours, and more flavours fit into a bigger cup! I'll be back for sure - especially given it's in the heart of Yorkville. It looks like this location is becoming or actually a Punto Gelato - they've got a few other locations around town and they're doing something right! Ooh. Some of these reviews are pretty spicy. That's amusing. Honestly, I'm not surprised at some of these poor reviews. I didn't get any rudeness about sampling because I'm not a sampler, but I did experience the stinginess in other ways. I ordered a small cup with the nutella and chestnut flavours. The small, which is teensy tiny, was almost six bucks. What the hell? What's up with that pricing? That's a Yorkville markup for sure. If this six bucks small had been filled, I would have been happier. The gelato wasn't packed in and my cup wasn't even full to the brim. Most gelato places overfill your cup and that's clearly the case at this place based on other reviewers' photos. Maybe I just had the bad luck of ordering from a particularly stingy server. So she didn't pack it in and I ended up with a huge pocket of air at the bottom of the cup and she didn't fill to the brim and I ended up with a lot of unused space at the top of my tiny cup. It took me all of one minute to eat my gelato and it usually takes me ages because of that tiny spoon. I'm guessing there was about 2-3 tbsp max of gelato in my cup. That's two bucks a tablespoon. Come on, man! That's just not right. The flavours were delicious, especially the chestnut, but value for money is probably the worst I've ever seen. I may come back and hope to get a more generous server, but if this happens again, there's no way this place will earn me as a regular customer. read more

Visited due to the $5 #paypalitTO promotion. I've been to the Yonge St. location before and loved it, so I was way too excited to hear that it was part of Paypal's promotion. Unlike the Yonge location, which allows you to sample 2 flavours before purchasing, you can only sample 1 flavour here. Not a big deal, though, as you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. I'm a hazelnut fan so I went with two flavours of the hazelnut variety. Although I can't call myself a gelato connoisseur just yet (I've only begun to join the gelato craze), this is the best gelato I've had thus far. Their very first store (opened in 2010) is located at Yonge and Eglinton, and the Yorkville location is their second store which opened in 2011. The owner of .Gelato creates his very own gelato recipes, making sure each recipe is unique and brings out the best flavours in them. Their menu outside gives customers a sneak peek of what .Gelato has to offer. Their decor is very clean and simple. As we can see their colourful gelato is the main decor of the whole store. Small tables are available for those who wants to finish enjoying their gelato before leaving. .Gelato offers at least 24 different flavours at a time. Customers are welcome to ask for a taste of the gelato before purchasing. .Gelato also do not repeat their flavours consecutively once it is sold out. They always bring out new flavours of gelato, so frequent customers will have different flavours to choose from. Another look at the gelato in the second fridge. .Gelato has a huge art display on the wall, which shows you all the flavours that they offer. I have notice some flavours are very unique and can't be found easily - such as Variegato Nutella, Macedonia, Marron Glace, and Biscotto. The ladies at the counter today, that being Sunday, were very sweet and nice. Today, being Sunday, I tried the Ferrero Rocher Gelato, Holy Heck was it ever amazing. If Gelato was a person I'd ask it to Salsa Dance with me. On Saturday they had what looked like the owner, male wearing glasses, handsome fellow, with another male younger looking guy. Very sweet. I had the Pistachio & Tiramisu Gelato, very very good. I don't blame them for charging $1 for samples what the heck how do you expect people to stay in business if all you do is sample their products and don't buy anything. I can't wait for next weekend. Let me break out my double-negative. I didn't not like it. It was good, and I appreciate that they don't sample certain flavours in the interest of nut allergies. While I love nuts, my BFF is deathly allergic to walnuts, so over the years, I've become more aware of how serious these allergies can be. I feel for them. This particular gelato shop is on Cumberland. Duh, that's why it's so expensive, right? The owner is evidently a gelato aficionado of sorts, i.e. he's had a hand in a few other stores: Il Gelateria and another Gelato Simply Italian in the Yonge-Davisville area. Went to this place in a hot summer day and we ordered their Pistaschio and (Nicciola) Hazelnut. They were the only two flavours that were not allowed to sample. Pistachio flavour had very little Pistachio taste but it looked really green like there was a lot of Pistachio in it. The Hazelnut flavour was really good. Although, not very nutty, it was flavourful and creamy. I would order a bigger size of the Hazelnut flavour next time. read more

Disgustingly managed place with ridiculous and outright rude service. Walked in this place with my boyfriend this evening and ordered some gelato. There are certain flavours that you're told cannot be sampled and if you sample without buying, this cheap-ass crap of a shack charges you a dollar. My boyfriend asked what one of the flavours was and the moron guy behind the counter curtly exclaimed "hazelnut!" Seriously, if you don't like working at a crappy gelateria that is poorly managed, then quit. It's a free country. A female server was making my orange juice and my bf also ordered a Cafe latte so when the male moron server rang me up, I accidentally told him that I ordered an expresso and an orange juice, instead of the Cafe latte. I later learned that the moron poured the expresso into the Cafe latte. I should've taken it back and threw that cup of garbage into his face! I would give this place 4 stars on our first visit but just 2 for the second. Owner needs to lighten up if they want to stay in business. Husband and I stopped in for coffee so I can't comment on all the gelato talk. We got two lattes - they were both what would be classified as a size small (it seems they only have one size bc there is only one price). They were $3.00 each. Expensive but they were very good and we could tell it was good quality espresso beans. While we didn't taste any gelato (way too cold outside) we did notice the $1 if you have samples and don't buy anything sign. Im assuming they have had an issue with this in the past to warrant such a sign. The guy serving us was fairly indifferent. Not rude but not overly nice or anything. Didn't bother me in the least. They also have a teeny tiny deli fridge with popular Italian cold cuts (prosciutto, anyone?). Side note: they have gluten free cones! I measure all gelato places based on their pistachio gelato and this is the best in the city (well and at their other location in Davisville), I don't need fancy seating, I don't care about the decor since I'm probably enjoying it out in the sun anyway. And I don't mind paying for quality. You're paying $4 at most places anyway so why not pay the extra $1 and get the best. Pistachio is a good measure for gelato because a lot of places skimp on pistachio big time by using almond extract or peanut. In fact, before I went to Italy I didn't know what pistachio gelato was supposed to taste like, I thought I didn't like it because it always tasted like almond extract. Gelato Simply Italian imports their pistachios from Sicily, the ingredient is so expensive they don't let you sample it. But even just looking at the colour you can tell it's proper pistachio gelato, it's almost an olive green colour NOT fluorescent green. Even if you don't like pistachio gelato, you gotta think if they take that kind of care and quality with one ingredient what about the rest. Another great example of this is their prickly pear which they only have at certain times of the year when prickly pear is in season. I stumbled across this flavour when the lady in front of me was chatting with the guy behind the counter "do you have it? is it in?" She was so excited I thought I was overhearing illegal activity in progress but nope, just prickly pear gelato. Apparently is sells out quickly so lucky for me I have no shame in listening to other's conversations. Their are a lot of places in Yorkville that focus on image and decor, it's nice to have a place in the area that focuses on quality ingredients and a passion for their craft. read more

In what is a tricky 'hood full of mediocre tourist traps, this unassuming little shop offers a top scoop of some refreshing flavours. I'm not sure how Sicilian pistachios rank within the world, but whatever these guys use comes out pretty good frozen! There is more than one way to get your filling of green nuts here but I'd go for the flavour with nougat! I've also tried the regular pistachio, stracciatella, coconut, ?berry sorbet, and creme brule flavours and they are recommended in the order mentioned! Got a small (2 scoops) -1 scoop coffee, 1 scoop chocolate. Per usual, can never beat chocolate gelato! The coffee one was a little too strongly flavored for my taste. I found the customer service to be rude and unpleasant. I asked for a taste of the vanilla. The girl behind the counter muttered something about my spoon but I couldn't hear her. She gave me a taste on one of those tiny little tasting spoons. I didn't care for the vanilla flavor so I tossed my "spoon" in the garbage and she very quickly raised her voice and with too much attitude, told me "I told you not to throw you spoon out!" Could not tell if she was joking or if she was being outright nasty. It made me wonder if there is a great gelato spoon shortage. With so many gelato shops and interesting little dessert places to visit in Toronto, I will NOT be coming back here, thanks to the sub-par service. read more

Found this little hidden gem while I was on a stroll around Yorkville with a friend of mine. It's very tiny inside and very clean. The server behind the counter was friendly and super approachable! I was overwhelmed with all of the flavours but since this was the first time that I was going to try this place, I might as well go for the customer favourites! The server told us that the pistachio and the hazelnut were customer favourites. He even said it was his favourite too, so why not! My friend and I both ordered the same thing, half pistachio and half hazelnut in a cup. It costed us $5 which isn't too bad (considering the location) but holy moly, the most flavourful gelato that I've ever had! Each bite was just blissful, all the flavours were there. I wasn't a huge fan of the hazelnut, I preferred the pistachio over it but seriously, if you're there, definitely get the pistachio! Oddly enough, you can't sample the hazelnut or the pistachio...which I thought was weird but hey, we took a chance and it was delicious. Highly recommended! Overall, I'll definitely be back for more so I can try the other flavours but...I'll probably stick with the pistachio since it was that good! read more
