a hand holding a cup of ice cream

Small but nice choice of home made ice cream. And not too sweet. The little piece of chocolate on top of it tasted like wax though ! And nice and flowered patio outside.

Why would they have, oh yeah, Halloween is around the corner.

Tryin to beat the heat, hubby took me to Avoca. The sign says "Chocolatier" but they also serve ice cream, gelato and hot chocolate. All are hand made without preservatives and additives, with gluten free and vegan options. RATING FOR FROZEN DESSERTS ONLY: Nice, helpful staff let us sample a number of items. Hubby wanted to be creative and make strawberry lemonade with a scoop of lemon and a scoop of strawberry gelato. The lemon was nice and tart but the strawberry was on the bland side, as if the strawberries weren't quite ripe yet. I got a scoop of coffee toffee ice cream and a scoop of vegan piña colada gelato. The coffee toffee had chunks of toffee in it YUM! TIPS - Sample before you buy! - Don't be afraid to mix and match flavors. I tried a spoonful of my sweet piña colada with hubby's tart lemon and it was a perfect pairing: sweet and sour. - Have a seat in their cute patio and relax to the sound of the bubbling water fountain.

This is such a hidden gem on the Danforth! Was expecting to just grab ice cream but half of the shop hold amazingly molded chocolates! Firstly, the ice cream was delicious and perfect for the hot summer days - the flavours were very true to their names. Sadly I didnt get a picture of the chocolates but trust me, theyre so beautiful you wont want to eat them (but you should because theyre delicious!) I bought one that was shaped as a skull!! This place is tucked in a side street but dont sleep on it!! Cant wait to return and grab more ice cream and bougie chocolates :)

3.5 stars ... this is a really cute spot off of Danforth and after reading what this store did during the Danforth tragedy, I really feel compelled to come back and give them another try. Just down a little small street off of Danforth, you'd find the quaint and peaceful Avoca Choclatier. The lovely small patio with the water fountain gives a little hint of an oasis from the buzz of the Danforth. The store itself isn't very big and it's take out but they do have lots of chocolate options. I personally am all for their gelato as it was a SUPER hot day and anything cold was a necessity. The staff here was quite kind and generous in offering taste samples to make sure we chose the right gelato. I do appreciate how they also had vegan sorbets as an alternative. They were really patient as we decided what flavours we wanted. I did try a bit and found most flavours 'different' in texture... it wasn't creamy like ice cream or other gelatos. It had a bit of texture or grit in some. I did find these melt SUPER ridiculously fast. My picture is only after a few minutes of scooping it out of their freezer. Yes it was hot but the ice cream was nearly a puddle in less than 10 minutes. This usually means there are no artificial stabilizers or fillers which is a good thing. Maple Walnut - The large walnut pieces in this one was a pleasant bite to have and added a nuttiness to it. I know some people have a hate or love relationship with the nut but this one is for the lovers. The maple ice cream base didn't have a strong flavour unfortunately. 3.5/5 Toffee Coffee - This one was interesting. It tasted good on the sample spoon but in larger quantities, it didnt quite translate. There was a definite grittiness to the ice cream. Almost as if there was too much corn starch or some kind of powdery thing in it. Also, the coffee flavour was there but quite toned down. I did try to find the toffee flavour but it was just 'sweet' and not caramel or brown sugar like. 3/5 Iced Espresso - This was the bolder of the 2 for coffee flavours. Much stronger than the toffee coffee but it also had the similar texture to the Toffee Coffee. There is a noticeable grittiness to the ice cream. There's something in it that makes it grind on your teeth. 3/5 Strawberry - Ok, this was the winner. Best one by a lot. Though it melted SUPER fast, the flavour of this one is all berry. Juicy and sweet ... this one is a good one to get. I will admit it is a tad sugary but compared to the other ones, it's a winner. 4/5 Love the little cute atmosphere and the staff... they're gems for sure. As for the ice cream, I think there are some decent ones but perhaps I should retry again. It is worthwhile to try if you're in the area.

Nestled on the side street of Hampton Ave

Nestled on the side street, hidden in Hampton Avenue this chocolaterie place certainly adds to the vibrant restaurant and cafes scene along Danforth. They open till 10pm in the summer. All hand made chocolates. They even have gelato & ice cream. Choices, choices... Being a coffee lover, I went for the waffle cone coffee toffee ice cream. Chocolate will be on my next time visit for sure!

Avoca Choclatier is a hidden neighborhood gem, off a side street near Danforth. I stumped by Avoca Choclatier out of sheer curiosity. It did not disappoint. Luscious chocolate diary free gelato reminded me of a 100% chocolate gelato I had in Milan. I opted for a small gelato ($4.75) with mixed berries and dark chocolate. It was delicious down to every last bite! It's spoon and cup licking good!

Ice cream cookie sandwich with coffee toffee ice cream .. yum

This place is my favourite spot for ice cream. Such a beautiful quiet spot tucked away just off of the danforth and the shop owner is an absolute doll! The homemade ice cream and gelato is to die for. My favourite is the special ice cream cookie sandwiches they offer during Taste of the Danforth! I also want to mention the chocolates they make are unbelievable works of art that look too good to eat and make unique gifts

Dark chocolate vegan gelato! Soooo good!
Ross S.

Hand made chocolates, ice cream, and gelato - amazing quality & flavours. Best gelato on the Danforth (and I've tried them all - repeatedly). The dark chocolate vegan gelato is heavenly! Can only assume everything else is as good. Small shop, so no inside sitting space. But lovely summer patio with a bubbly fountain. Peaceful place to savour yummy goodness.

This is the best ice cream I've had in my life. And I've had gelato in Italy. Try the Nutella flavor and you will keep coming back.

The aesthetic and the attention to detail when it comes to these desserts flawless, and exceptional. I enjoyed every single bite of my dessert. It was fluffy and it melted in my mouth, and I wish I could just eat my screen right now just looking at it lol. For drinks, we got hot chocolates, and they had one of the best hot chocolates I've ever tasted, and I'm not exaggerating. It was the perfect drink and taste to eat my dessert. Location: The location is very pretty, but it's pretty casual. The seating is pretty close to other guests in the restaurant or tables of two if I'm not mistaken. This is a perfect place to go with friends or family or on a quick date or by yourself. This place looked like it was located on a main street with street parking, but because I was visiting in Toronto, I'm not sure how the parking works as we took Uber. Service: The service was great, and they were very friendly and answered any questions regarding the desserts on display to help us pick the perfect one for ourselves. They also brought the food to our table, including the drinks. I 100% would go back to this location.

The strawberry shortcake is fluffy, just the right about of cream and sweetness. The matcha tiramisu is rich in matcha flavour and just the right amount of sweet to offset the bitter matcha. The regular tiramisu has a strong and balanced coffee flavour. The black sesame cake has a great texture and strong black sesame flavour. I enjoy vanilla addition too. The mango cheesecake is really smooth and a real mango flavour (no artificial flavour). It's been popular when I bring cakes to gatherings , but I also enjoy popping by to grab a slice. They have 50% off older slices which is a steal if you visit on the right day. Haven't tried their cafe food or drinks but they do have a nice ambiance and seating.

This place does a great brunch/breakfast as well as have a gorgeous selection of baked goods. It's a great place to relax as well as take to go. It's probably easier to for them to order ahead of time, but they've been super accommodating with my last minute orders as well. Their prices are honestly quite good for the Yorkville area as well and I've seen baked goods and cakes go for much more around here.

Delicious desserts, waffles ice cream, smoothies, and more. We ordered: Medium Mango Smoothie - $7.95 Simple Pleasures Waffle - $15.50 The waffle was light and fluffy and the toppings of fruit and chocolate were a great combination. I requested to be lighter on the chocolate but there was still a LOT of chocolate on our waffle. The mango smoothie was refreshing and sweet. I started going to Holy Choco when they first opened and their service was really good from some of the owner. Super attentive and caring staff. Unfortunately, it's since gone downhill since they've hired new staff and we had a number of small problems when visiting this time (dirty tables, dirty cutlery, requested if our food could be put in to go containers because they didn't want to do dishes, unfriendly, etc.) I hope they improve upon these staffing issues soon. Their seating area is good for friends and groups to loiter. Also, if you plan on bringing a laptop, they have MANY OUTLETS!!

For items: we chose strawberry, banana, halal marshmallow, waffle bites, brownie bites, and Oreo with a round of cappuccino's ($5.50 each). The interior is nicely decorated with a cute angel photo op in the back, and window bar seats and couches to choose from. Great spot for 2-4 people. The only criticism I could have was it took a while to get our order. So, it's not one of those places you can be dipping into expecting to be done in 20mins! We stayed for nearly 3 hours and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Second, the guys who run this place - polite to everyone - smart storekeepers. A smile and a polite word keep people coming back. Now to the important stuff: A huge range of chocolates from the United Kingdom ... OMG ... toffees, choccies, the works. Some really good biscuits and good, old British "crisps" (Walkers). This place is my not-so-secret indulgence ... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ahhh ... yes! Their products are very, very fresh. They pay attention to expiry dates. This is important - you are paying premium dollar for imported choccies and biscuits and you want them to be fresh (which they are, here). Enjoy! P.S. And if you're into it ... they also carry TINNED HAGGIS from Scotland.

I can't believe the experience I just had here. I've been coming here for 10 years. Despite the…read moresparse selection, the stale bulk candy and the expired goods, I came here because I loved the idea of an independent candy store. I will never again enter this business. I spent over $50 on a few items. The owner gave me an itemized receipt. As I was leaving the store, I saw that I was charged for the jumbo version of two items I purchased. I went back to the owner and respectfully showed him the receipt and the items. He was incredibly defensive, scanned the item and showed me the item was marked at the price it should be, but still showed as 'jumbo.' I asked him to scan the jumbo item so I could see I was not being charged for a jumbo and it truly was a system error. He scanned it and nothing was showing up. I'm not entirely sure on this point - but I feel like he was trying to enter a higher price for the jumbo as I stood there so he could justify the incorrect price. I asked for either a refund or to be given the jumbo item since that's what I was being charged for. I don't care if there's an error in your system. Fix it - it's not my problem. The real problem was how this was dealt. The owner wouldn't let me get two words in. He spoke over me for a solid 5 minutes. I kept asking if I could be given the courtesy of explaining what was wrong since he clearly wasn't understanding. I said 'I've been shopping here for ten years. Can you please just let me explain what the problem is without talking over me?" And he said "I don't care. This store's been open for 25 years. It doesn't need you." I was floored. Just a verbal barrage of condescension and abuse. It's a shame. Ten years of patronage out the drain. It's funny that he wrote a review on here asking patrons to give the store another chance. After that display, I'm making it my mission to spread the word on how you shouldn't. The service was the worst I've ever experience in my life. Half the items I purchased are literally expired. Everything is insanely marked up ($10 for a 180g chocolate bar, $3.29 for a regular sized push pop that's not imported). You can also find most everything elsewhere. Bulk barn has a great selection of Jelly Belly's. Also - check your receipts before leaving.
