    Cappuccino and chocolate torte.
    Giliar F.

Amazing food and service. The chocolate torte is great, and the cappuccino was delicious. Absolutely recommended.

My cappuccino with way too much milk!!! Look it's to the rim!!! Yes appreciate your latte art craftiness

Was working in the area and stopped by for coffee. My cappuccino ... it was a latte. Milk all the way to the top. I appreciate your latte art but I really want espresso and not a lot of milk. The place smells great since it oozes dark chocolate once you open the door. I did try their sea salt chocolate cookie. Great dark chocolate of course! Just not the right balance. Too much salt on top, great chocolate but not enough butter / dough mix? It could be so much better. I wish Erick Kayser opened a bakery here in Toronto ... What's with this city lately? The baristas are so inconsistent with flat white and cappuccino lately. You guys are forcing me to order a cortado or just return the latte that I never ordered!

Flourless chocolate brownie & Maya Chocolate
    Jessica Y.

Its been awhile since I last had hot chocolate and I decided to make a pit stop at Soul Chocolate on my way to grab some groceries around this area. The impromptu step into Soul Chocolate was not disappointing at all. I ordered the Mayan hot chocolate and the spicyness along with the density of the hot chocolate was delicious. Also, the flourless chocolate brownie was calling out to me, which made me a glutton before dinnertime. However, I did not regret dessert before dinnertime tonight. The flourless chocolate brownie had texture, not your usual dense hard brownie, it crumbles slightly easier. But what I liked was the slight coconut texture and airy that is in this brownie. Sorry, but you've just got to eat it to try and understand what I'm describing since it's so damn amazing. This place has now dethroned Soma Chocolate in Distillery from my list of best hot choclates in town.

Stumbled upon this store after brunch in the neighborhood. The worker was friendly and informative on their menu. We walked out with a cortado and an americano. Both drinks were great and we were able to sample their delicious chocolates.

Freshly made chocolate croissant and bread pudding ... you can just smell the dark chocolate when you step inside. Intoxicating

I love discovering places where the owners or people working there are smiling because they absolutely love what they're creating and sharing with you. I feel the people working at Soul Chocolate fit perfectly into that description and it really shows. Soul Chocolate is a very small counter space in Chinatown East. Yup... it's in Chinatown. Not your first thought where a high end bean to bar chocolatier would normally set their roots. I took notice of Soul Chocolate because I've heard magical things about their mocha. They don't take chocolate from another brand... they work with farmers directly and from scratch, roast their cacao beans to create their own single origin chocolate bars. They also incorporate these into their daily baked pastries, hot chocolate, and mocha! When you walk in, the smell of dark chocolate will hit you and just envelope you. This is a mostly a take out spot ... there is a bench along the window to sit for a bit but really, you can't be there comfortably for more than a few moments. The spot is cute as it not only showcases their chocolate bars but also coffee beans roasted across Canada. Their drink menu has everything you'd want from a good coffee place... cappuccino, flat whites, and espressos in addition to the hot chocolate, loose teas, and mochas. I LOVE how they made their own alternative milk because wanted the richness and flavour that they didnt find it conventionally bought brands. So if you're not wanting cow's milk, they have a delicious cashew coconut milk. One thing I wish they had on offer that day but they didnt have the chocolate squares available... they have chocolate flights! So you could taste the different cacao beans and how the terroir affects the flavours. That would have been perfect with the mocha I had. Flat White - The alternative milk of cashew coconut really makes this flat white unique as the creaminess of the cashew and natural sweetness of the coconut just kicks this into a different flavour territory. There is much care where they do the espresso pull and heat the milk to make the final cup. I did find the flat white to be bold but very drinkable. No bitterness or acidity which I like. 4/5 Mocha - With seeing how the molten chocolate flowed into my cup, I realized this would not be any normal Mocha. I saw how rich and thick that chocolate was and I knew that I would be enjoying it. I loved how the coconut really complimented the chocolate. It added a natural light sweetness to it. I wouldnt say the mocha was overly sweet... just enough to highlight the coffee and chocolate respectively. It's been a while since I've had Soma's mocha but this one would rank up there as one of the best in the city. 4.5/5 Chocolate croissant - I loved how excited the staff was when I bit into it and tasted the bitter dark chocolate just give way to the buttery layers. She was genuinely happy to see me realize how rich in flavour it was and appreciate her mornings work. She did mention that she just baked those up a few hours ago and love to see people's reaction. This is not your tame super soft and overly sweet croissant. Though it may not have all the crisp layers that a true French croissant would have ... French croissants do not have this absolutely delicious giant filling of great chocolate like this normally. 4.5/5 I did hear them say they will be introducing ICE CREAM next week and honestly, I cannot imagine how good it would be. They said it would be a chocolate and a cookie dough one. They've been testing recipes for a while and they think they got it. I will be coming back for that and their chocolate flight to try!

It's nice to have new shops like this in the east end. The owner is really friendly and the chocolate is made on site. I ordered a chocolate shot, a $3 small serving of liquid chocolate. It was really nice. They also have coffee of various types, hot chocolate, and of course, chocolate There's not much seating inside other than a long bench so you may have to take it to go. All in all, nice place.

I stumbled upon this small chocolate shop while walking along Gerrard Street East in Toronto on an early Saturday evening. According to my friend, this shop is usually closed early but they have extended it perhaps during the holiday season. You basically see everything once you enter the shop. It is super small and there is a small side table for 2-3 people to sit and sip their drinks, but it is more intended for a sip and go rather than a place for you to chat and do some work. They made cookies and other cacao drinks in the house as there is an open kitchen at the back. When I got there, I was greeted by a lady barista. She was very nice and introduced the drinks that they had that day. She told me that the the shop mostly sells dark chocolate and only has 1-2 milk chocolate bars. So this is good if you are into dark chocolate! I got the chocolate shot (~$3) which is their featured chocolate of the day (Dominican 70% cacao). It was very good and there was a fruity after taste. The quality of the chocolate was okay. I want to try their other chocolate drinks and cookies next time! There is a shelf where you can buy a whole bunch of chocolate related products: drinking chocolate, various chocolate bars and reusable cups. They also have french presses if you are looking to buy one. Overall, a great chocolate shop if you are in the area, but I think other competing places might be better.

Hot chocolate. Great flavour. Rich and smooth but not sweet.

What a fantastic little haven tucked into old/east Chinatown! Was only recently introduced to this by some coworkers. Top notch products were had: hot chocolate (perfect - as we escaped from the bitter cold outside!), chocolate shot (my friend always gets this) and delicious chocolate bars. It's quality rivals Soma's! Will be back to try more.

Grabbed a afogato, cookie and their chocolate. Service was personable. Espresso /food was a great treat. Espresso was bold in flavour. Some bench seating in the front. Not a place to sit down with your laptop. Great neighbourhood asset.

Chocolate = Ambrosia . Had my shot of pure chocolate from @soulchocolate - such a cute place! The shot was very fruity (as the owners stated) quite nice - def can't have a lot of this - but I would love to have their hot chocolate which uses this as their base

    Amazing tasting cookie!

The aroma is so amazing as soon as you walk into the store. It smells so sweet, rich and fragrant! Husband enjoyed the coffee and my daughter absolutely loved the chocolate cookie. I'm not a sweets person but did try their chocolate cookie and it was heaven, what really elevated the taste was the salt on the cookie as I found this really enhanced and brought the cookie to the next level. Hope to come back next time and try the drinks.

I spent over $50 on a few items. The owner gave me an itemized receipt. As I was leaving the store, I saw that I was charged for the jumbo version of two items I purchased. I went back to the owner and respectfully showed him the receipt and the items. He was incredibly defensive, scanned the item and showed me the item was marked at the price it should be, but still showed as 'jumbo.' I asked him to scan the jumbo item so I could see I was not being charged for a jumbo and it truly was a system error. He scanned it and nothing was showing up. I'm not entirely sure on this point - but I feel like he was trying to enter a higher price for the jumbo as I stood there so he could justify the incorrect price. I asked for either a refund or to be given the jumbo item since that's what I was being charged for. I don't care if there's an error in your system. Fix it - it's not my problem. The real problem was how this was dealt. The owner wouldn't let me get two words in. He spoke over me for a solid 5 minutes. I kept asking if I could be given the courtesy of explaining what was wrong since he clearly wasn't understanding. I said 'I've been shopping here for ten years. Can you please just let me explain what the problem is without talking over me?" And he said "I don't care. This store's been open for 25 years. It doesn't need you." I was floored. Just a verbal barrage of condescension and abuse. It's a shame. Ten years of patronage out the drain. It's funny that he wrote a review on here asking patrons to give the store another chance. After that display, I'm making it my mission to spread the word on how you shouldn't. The service was the worst I've ever experience in my life. Half the items I purchased are literally expired. Everything is insanely marked up ($10 for a 180g chocolate bar, $3.29 for a regular sized push pop that's not imported). You can also find most everything elsewhere.
