Stopped by here for dessert as i was told it was a must try in the area. Service was decent it a very quick order and go type of situation. For the price of 7.5 a ice cream i kinda of expected more. Both of our icecreams had a hole in the middle. What i am guessing is from the way they fill the cup. But the amount of ice cream you get i dont feel like its worth it. As from kawartha you can get something almost double the size for less. After you pickup there is no where really to eat so we went back to the car and ate it there. Personally dont feel like its worth the trip or the price.
It's been almost a decade since I've been going to bar ape. I easily spent more than $100 here, when it first opened I would go every week as they switch flavors up each week. They post their flavors on their IG ahead of time. They have so many unique flavors! One of my all time fave is cucumber cantaloupe twist. This is cash only and it's $6! They usually have a long line but it goes by quickly! It's just a takeout spot but the store front is cute! Highly recommend! It's my favourite spot for soft serve!
for how hyped this place is, i expected wayyyy more. it tastes like regular ice cream to be honest.... i found myself pretty disappointed. i'm wondering if it might be the specific flavours that were on rotation when we were there, which were grape and hazelnut. i want to go back just to give other flavours another shot. pro tip: go before dinner, because after dinner the line is at least an hour --and this place definitely is not worth a wait :(
Bar Ape is a window storefront in the Hillcrest area of Toronto that serves soft serve gelato. The flavours change on a weekly basis. We ordered the Ontario apricot/toasted coconut swirl. It was good! I don't think it's the best gelato in the city, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are no seats, so you can take it to go, or eat it on one of the numerous benches nearby. There was no lineup when we arrived, but I hear it can get quite busy. Service was prompt and friendly.
Amazing gelato! Finally had the chance to come here to try their popular soft serve! This weeks flavour is black sesame x okinawa lime. I got the twist ($6). I was a bit skeptical about the combination but it paired so well together. I also got the take home container of pistachio x pomegranate ($6). Also amazing and paired so well together. When we went, the lineup was quite long but it moves by so quickly. Theres only a few seats outdoors. They only take cash.
A little Neighbourhood gelato shop takeout spot, serving soft serve, ice cream bars, gelato cups, and sundaes. There were only 2 people behind the window serving customers, but they were pretty efficient and kept the line moving fairly quickly. We tried their feature soft serve, which was pomegranate and pistachio. I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.

They're open in the summer months only so it makes it so much more special to have this sweet treat in the summer when they are open. This is CASH ONLY, so make sure you grab some before heading here for some delicious gelato. There's no store front, only an open window where you get served. They have new features in soft serve pairings weekly, and all ingredients are based on seasonal fruits that are available. They also have gelato sundaes, gelato bars and pints for sale. The pints usually are the flavour of the previous weeks' weekly feature. I follow their socials closely to know which flavours they have each week. But since I've been going here for so long and have my absolute favourite flavour of cantaloupe, I know that it comes near the end of summer when cantaloupe is the sweetest. It's fun that each week the flavours are different and announced on their socials. But also would be a bummer to miss my favourite flavour if I'm travelling. Give this spot a try. Promise you that it's so delicious and will cure your gelato cravings.
Excited to try Bar Ape gelato because they're only open for a few months between Thursday to Sunday and have specials. This weekend's special was matcha, yuzu, or a twist of both. When we got there, it was busy, but the service was quick and friendly. We ordered the special twist (match and yuzu) and a salted caramel sundae. We both found the gelato very flavourful and had a great texture. We will be keeping an eye out for future specials! There is some street parking available. Close to St. Clair street car. No washrooms. Outdoor seating only. Cash only with ATMs in the area.
Another bar ape season I'm loving! If I weren't for the long lines, I'd be back each week to taste the new flavours of the week. The best thing about bar ape is the soft serve texture - perfection, and how packed with with flavour each soft serve - just as it would taste in its natural form. No seats, takeout only. Worth the wait if you have the time. Come and expect a wait!
This is some of the best ice cream of the city. They have new gelato & soft serve flavors weekly (usually 2-3) using seasonal ingredients. They also bring back popular past flavors and have a menu of fairly consistent ice cream bars and sundaes. There is a line during peak times but they work through it pretty quickly and it's worth the wait. My favorites regular menu items are the pistachio bar and the sour cherry sundae. However I do like trying their weekly twist of two new flavors usually. They are cash only so in good conscience I cannot give a full 5 stars as the customer experience of having to get cash to come here is a bit annoying. However still highly recommend trying!
Loved that this joint offers only two flavours that change frequently and pair well. The flavours also seem to be made from local fruit and seasonal. I also enjoyed the gelato being in soft serve form which isn't a norm. $6 is a fair price but unfortunately is cash only which (fortunately?) make it $6 flat. It is a small takeout window with a few options to sit outside. Great treat on a warm summer night if you can handle waiting in line for 20 mins. One of the few things my partner and I weren't a fan of was not trying the gelato before purchase like other places. Had we were able to try the brown butter my partner wouldn't have ordered a swirl. Otherwise, in my opinion, who would've known sour cherry and shortbread would go so well!

I've been wanting to try Bar Ape for a while as there's a lot of hype around it. The experience lived up to my expectations! We got the strawberry buttermilk soft serve as well as the amarena cherry sundae. The ice cream is creamy and rich. It's not too sweet. The strawberry was bright and very flavourful and the buttermilk had a nice tang, together it tasted like strawberry yogurt. The sundae had a nice vanilla flavour with cherry sauce that complemented it nicely. I would go back to try more flavours. There was a long lineup but it moved quite fast and only took around 10mins. Each serving is $7 but includes tax. It's on the pricier end but makes for a nice treat! Keep in mind that it's cash only. read more
Good soft serve ice cream with a daily changing menu and interesting ingredients. The Flavors are unique and the ice cream consistency is good. Be prepared for a line up but it moves relatively fast. I went on a Thurs night at 930pm in July and had to wait 20 mins. I'm not a soft serve ice cream specialist but I think this one is definitely above average. Would come back if I wanted soft serve. read more

A very busy gelato take out store. They have new flavours rotating often last time when I went I got Black sesame! Cash only and the line does go fast. The portions are huge!! I would love to try more flavours as they have some unique ones. They're closed during the winter/fall. read more

I'd been wanting to try Bar Ape for a while and finally got the chance last week. If you're coming, make sure you check out their Instagram for their flavour rotation for the week and BRING CASH! I opted for the fudge sundae, which is a menu mainstay while my friends opted for the week's special soft serve flavour. I commend Bar Ape for the unique flavour combinations, definitely get the mix because the flavours do blend very well together. I wasn't blown away by my sundae, the fior di latte ice cream was very subtle and not too sweet while the fudge was silky and also not too sweet. Overall, the ice cream was good but it's not something I'd go out of my way to try again Plenty of parking in the surrounding area and lots of spots to have dinner prior to. read more
Bar Ape is a local gelato shop located along St. Clair West between Dufferin and Bathurst on Rushton Road. The small shop is only open from May to Oct where they specialize in seasonal flavours which rotate weekly. They usually have 2 special flavours (where there is a twist option as well). There is also a selection of pints, sundaes, and gelato bars. The shop is cash only (tax already included in the prices). I have been waiting to try this gelato shop for a while after hearing good things from many other local foodies. I was able to visit Bar Ape this afternoon right when they opened on Sat. I opted to get the twist flavour (which was passion fruit and guava). There wasn't a line when I arrived but there were a lot of people outside the store enjoying their treats. Staff were friendly and efficient. The gelato was delicious and not overly sweet. The gelato flavour combination I got was extremely tropical and perfect for a hot summer day. The flavours of both the guava and passion fruit went well together. I finished my gelato so quickly that I debated getting another one! Overall, great gelato and unique flavours. Will definitely return for more! read more
TLDR - it was raining and it was the best time to eat this! I love the hazelnut and raspberry gelato bars! They were quick in their services since there's nothing much to prep but actually just hand over the gelato bars! I'm happy I found this while walking around the neighborhood. Im not a local in this neighbourhood so I come from a fresh perspective -lol . Meaning, no favourite spots. I think the orange flavour gives a citrus flavour that's perfect on a summer weather but the raspberry and hazelnut are perfect in any season. read more

Cute little place recommended by a friend. They change the flavour of their ice cream every week, so you don't really know what you're getting til you get there. It's 6$ CASH ONLY fyi. The flavour is great. Really love this place. They also offer vegetarian options. The only seating they have is outdoor benches out front, so plan to take it to go. read more

I think this place is such a good shop for some good gelato/ice cream. It holds such a good neighbourhood shop vibe. You know it's the real deal when you see families of all ages in line waiting for their turn to grab a treat. The flavours they offer are great! Rotating weekly and all unique and delicious that I've tried so far! I've tried their soft serves and gelato bars. I have not been disappointed yet. If anything I'm always struggling to choose what to get while in line. It's cash only so make sure you have that before you head over!! read more
First time here and tried the walnut / lemon twist, as well as the chocolate malt. The walnut and lemon were good on their own, but they felt like simple flavours to me. The chocolate malt was better as it tasted like maltesers. Overall I was expecting some of the best gelato of my life but got some still very good gelato. So unique ice cream bar! Whether to eat on the spot sundaes or to bring at home. Their soft-serves are the best to bring home and njoy! My 13 Months old enjoys her food in peace and in comfort zone and it was easy to serve her the frozen soft-serve at home. The unique banana lime flavour has fresh and natural taste well garnished by the chocolate dip! Totally yum! read more

Got the twist: Vanilla & Mango. Vanilla was excellent: a good & rich flavour & you could see the specks of vanilla. Mango was decent - still good & rich but the flavour didn't jump out like the vanilla. The twist also seemed uneven: there was more vanilla than mango. The two actually went very well in the same mouthful. The serving is not very big but it's ok for 1 person. $5 includes tax. read more
Delicious soft serve! Flavors tried were guava, passion fruit, and orange zest. My favorite was the passion fruit as it's got the tang. The other flavors were also delicious since the fruit flavors did come out and not tasted artificial. P.s. line moves super quick, so don't get intimidated by it :) read more

I finally visited Bar Ape after hearing about them for years and it definitely lived up to the hype. I went on a weekend afternoon and luckily the line wasn't too long and moved very quickly. We got the black sesame soft serve, yuzu soft serve, and coconut almond bar. The soft serve was heavenly. I've had black sesame soft serve in the past, but the one here was far more rich and smooth. The yuzu one was mind-blowing. I never knew yuzu ice cream would be this good! The coconut bar was good too, but the soft serve stood out more. I was so obsessed, I went back the next weekend, and I forsee myself going back as much as possible now ;) read more
A great hidden gem on Rushton offering gelato and soft cream. Cash only, long lines but let me tell you... It is worth it. The portion size is just enough to satisfy your cravings.. and the flavours speak for itself. 10/10 ... who doesn't love gelato? read more
I'm sure everyone has seen these aesthetic black cups and colorful swirls. I really couldn't wait to see what the fuss was all about. They change their offerings every week, and this week we got to try the Pomegranate/Pistachio. I honestly liked the flavours better separate. As the pomegranate was very tart, sweet and sour and the pistachio was very creamy and nutty, I felt they didn't work that well together. I ate the swirls separately and enjoyed it much more. I felt like their previous combos such as mint/chocolate and chocolate/strawberry sounded a lot more complementing. The soft serve was light yet creamy and I would deff come back for some of their new and different combos. Definitely check their IG for what flavour is featured that week before going! read more

A staple gelato bar you must visit every summer time. I have only begun trying their concoctions since 2018 and wish I had visited sooner. Food: I gravitate towards the soft serves and usually get the twist. Their feature menu items change each week (from Wednesday to Monday). The individual soft serve flavours are intentionally picked so that they would complement each other if you decide to want the best of both worlds. Vanilla bean and mango: By far my favourite. The mango tastes like mango, in between sweet and sour. Rhubarb and Ontario strawberries: Class combination, the rhubarb is nice and tart. I felt like I was transported to a strawberry farm, it packs a punch, tastes like a home made strawberry smoothie, only fresher. Blood orange and milk chocolate: I feel this one melted a bit earlier compared to other soft serves I had. Not bad, the chocolate balanced out the slight tangy bitterness of the blood orange. Atmosphere/service: You can feel the creators/ staff enjoy what they do and put in care and attention when producing that soft serve swirl. Price: Make sure to bring cash, $5 per item. At first I thought the serving looked small but it ended up being just right. The gelato bars are constructed by hand, definitely worth it! read more

Located in TorontoWe heard such good things about this spot and had to try it out! This cute little ice cream shop only takes cash and is opened Thursday to Sunday. We tried their Tayberry Soft Serve , Sour Cherry & Goat Milk Bar and their Sour Cherry Sundae. We loved their Tayberry Soft Serve! The flavour was refreshing and fruity. It had a soft and smooth texture, and we wish their was more. The Sour Cherry & Goat Milk Bar had a hard chocolate outside and a soft gelato inside. We weren't a huge fan as the bar was quite small and we didn't enjoy this flavour combo as much. The Sour Cherry Sundae came with a vanilla soft serve and Sour Cherry topping. We found the Sour Cherry sweet and enjoyed the creamy vanilla with it. This gelato shop changes their flavours weekly, and we would be delighted to try more. We would recommend to check their hours as they are different for some days. Overall, the aesthetic of this gelato shop and cups were cute. 7.5/10 read more
