Replaced motherboard in my laptop a couple years ago, because it was not booting. Ultimately had to replace the power supply, but still charged for the motherboard. Willing to live with it, until the plastic tab in one of the USB ports snapped earlier this year. That port was barely used, and broke off rather easily. Was probably about a year after the repair, but "warranty" is 90 days. Not at all happy with this. read more

please, be aware! I spilled some water on my few month old laptop. I came to the ABC geek in Fairfax, VA, and honestly told them what happened. they said they will try to fix it for $600. I agreed. a week later I'd not heard from them, so I had to call to find out that they were not able to fix my laptop, and will issue a full refund of my payment. unfortunately, when I picked up my computer, and opened it up at home -I realized there were it's of parts MISSING! when my husband called them, they agreed to put everything back in it. I'm not 100% sure if they did put everything they were trying to still back into my damaged almost brand new laptop, but the bottom line is that my computer was working with glitches, when I first left it with them, and completely dead and unresponsive when I picked it up. When I asked how come they decided to take some parts out of it, without le me know or putting it back in -they said that they don't fix it in there, but send it to some other place.. they also mentioned that if I'd give it to Apple they would have to replace everything anyway... still don't understand how the fact that Apple would replace everything in case of a water damage, lets the geek ABC to take and keep some parts out of my laptop. Though I have not been to this business personally, yet, after reading all of the reviews I recently sent someone here. I had previously done all of the work on his computer, but due to the symptoms I could not fathom how to fix it. He came in on a Wednesday afternoon and dropped off his Dell laptop. Within a couple of hours received an estimate to have the HD replaced and the BIOS fixed and then upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. He was told it would be ready on Saturday, which is not a bad time frame. Thursday night Chris from Geek ABC called him to let him know the system was ready, finished and could be picked up anytime. That was two days earlier than the original estimated time of completion. My friend picked up his laptop, went home and has been happy as a clam. He spoke to Chris, the owner of this business and got some information on the business itself and other information of which he passed on to me. The quote he was given was phenominal considering the amount of work to be done and Chris didn't hesitate when indicating that it would not take very long to complete. I look forward to taking an older Dell tower system in to see if a long standing problem can be resolved. I'm pretty confident now that Chris and Geek ABC can resolve it. As techy myself, I've done everything I thought was possible to resolve the issue, but to no avail. Give this place a try. It is certainly better than Geek Squad over at Best Buy. Chris is genuine, knowledgeable and for the most part, self-taught. Much better going to someone local, knowledgeable and much less expensive than the big chain stores. They recently replaced my hard drive and did a great job. It was completed in a couple of days and the price was reasonable.

The hard drive in my Acer netbook died after only about 4 months of use. After getting the run around from Acer customer service, I emailed Geek ABC and they were very responsive. I got the following: $60 for a new hard drive $99 to reinstall the operating system $40 to pick up my computer at my office in DC and return it to the same location Total cost- $199 (would have been $159 if I dropped it off myself) I got my computer back after about 4 days (over a long weekend pretty much) and its working well. read more

Allen at Geek ABC was nothing but great. I brought my two year-old Dell laptop in that was no longer under warranty. Dell wanted $40 for me to send it back just for diagnostics, in addition to repair costs. Allen immediately looked at it for free. He determined that it was the motherboard of the laptop. This would've been a very expensive fix. I decided not to repair the laptop and instead buy a new one. Allen did not charge me for the diagnostic assessment. He is very professional, proficient, communicative, and honest. I appreciate his customer service and will definitely utilize this business again for all my computer repairs. My laptop stopped turning on, I was in the rush to find a place that could help fix my computer. I first stopped by Best Buy and they told me it'll take 3-4 weeks to send it to a Repair center then they'll quote me to fix it. I didn't have time to wait around 3-4 weeks then wait to have them mail it back to me. I looked Laptop Repair on yelp and I found these guys, I gave them a call I talked to Tech that knowledgeable and said to bring it in for free diagnostics. When I came in they were just as personable in person as over the phone. They did a quick overview and said they'll like to spend a little more time on it to give an accurate diagnostic. I left it there and the next day they called me with report with a price quote to fix it. Just a few days later they called me up and said it was ready. NOT SATISFY AT ALL!! Do not try their service!! I had a custom built computer with completely new parts. I built the case perfectly. I just didn't know how to connect the power to the motherboard and for this reason the computer was not turning on. These people charged me 90 bucks just to tell me if everything was OK with the parts!! Ridiculous! However I told them all the parts are completely new. I'm a student and I saved my money to build this Computer. After three days wasting my time they told me they want 150 bucks more only to connect the power to the motherboard! this is ridiculous. I can't believe they took my money and did nothing. Finally I took my case without resolving the issue. They will charge you extra for no reason. I broke my laptop's hinge a while ago, and never got it fixed. Eventually I was getting visual anomalies on the laptop screen. I had to take it to the GeekABC Fairfax store since I heard good things about them. One of the techs told me that the broken hinge and rough use on my part have caused the screen's connection to degrade. The good news was that the screen itself was fine. They were able to fix my laptop hinge and replace my screen for a very reasonable price. I was pleasantly surprised! I honestly thought it would have cost me at least double the amount they charged. This review is long overdo but I wanted to let others know about my great experience with Geek ABC. My laptop would work fine if the charger was plugged in, however, it would completely shut down as soon as I unplugged the charger. It wasn't a showstopper issue but I was upset because my laptop is fairly new. I bought it from one of the major retailers and based on previous experience I didn't want to go there for repairs. Since I use my laptop for work, I couldn't afford to be without it for too long. I used Geek ABC based on a friend's recommendation and I am glad I did. I had my laptop back in no time. I went to Geekabc for data recovery service on a failed hard drive. They said that it would take a couple days to do initial diagnostics to determine how much data can be restored and what the price would be. The next day they gave me a call saying that almost all of my previous data is recoverable. They gave me a very reasonable price considering the amount of data I had stored on the hard drive. I came in to get my laptop repaired - the disk usage was stuck at basically 100%, and the computer was extremely slow to the point that it was unusable for programming or gaming. After failed attempts myself to fix the problem I took it to Geek ABC in Fairfax. The man there was confident he'd be able to fix it and in my opinion charged a super reasonable price. He was very open about what he was going to do to the laptop. Within two days I was notified the computer was ready to go, fully functional and FAST again! The disk usage is now only a few percent with the exception of opening programs, and my fan is no longer whirring non stop. Very thankful for the work done here! read more
