All of their tech support is outsourced to India. The people at the local stores can't help with anything. For the constant outages, they give you ticket numbers so your bill can be discounted for the days you spent without internet... And then when you call someone in India to have your bill adjusted, they gaslight you by saying there was never an outage or your ticket number is incorrect. I can't believe I am writing this as i do hate GCI and have for years, but had to go to the store for help with an issue. Upon arrival I was 5th or 6th in line so was going to leave and try another time. A gentleman also waiting urged me to stay saying they moved fast, so I did. Well, he was correct and I was being helped within about 5 minutes. The person who helped me was Shirley, a wonderful helpful tech. We had a couple "bumps" along the way, but she was friendly, very helpful, happy to answer my questions and got me and my iPhone reconnected with GCI function I needed and got me on my way. She was a great rep and though I will likely never like GCI, I have to give credit where it is due. Shirley is a winner and this operation seems to run smoothly and efficiently. read more

I would give this GCI a zero. I am very angry at the customer service at 1 800 800 4800. I had a past due balance that I wanted to make payments for the past due that is due tomorrow May 6. I called to arrange for a payment plan. GCI went ahead and paid potential past due.. I saw a total of $506.16 ($253.08 of that was going to be past due on May 7) I initially called to make payments for the May bill. And they charged it to my card ending in ****. Without me knowing about it they transferred me to Collections when the $253.08 was already processed and sent I spoke to Collections and attempted to make payment arrangement. Until I checked my online banking and saw that GCI ALREADY CHARGED THE $253.08 which made my account go under! GCI customer service peoples brain doesn't work or they don't have a concept. I am on a fixed income which is why I make payment plans to offset my budget. I called to complain and wanting to speak to a Supervisor they all said the same thing we cannot refund it. And it takes 2 weeks to have it adjusted. Now I have to go to the Bank and explain GCIs screw up and my pay is Direct deposited into my bank and GCI screw up will screw up my bank account! GCI Store is A-OK. I'm not sure why it's a rite of passage to hate GCI in Anchorage. I've had nothing but good experiences. Sure, their internet is very expensive, but you actually get the speeds they advertise. I can't say that for any service provider in the lower 48. My GCI internet costs 2X as much as my connection in Portland did...but it is about 25X as fast. Seems reasonable to me. Service here is alright. There's a kiosk in the front where you digitally take a number. The clerks working here are decently knowledgable. There's a kiosk where you can pay your bill. (not sure why? Whoever bought GCI has upped their game. In-person customer service is a huge improvement to what it's been known as for years. They offer a variety of services and you can pay your bill in two clicks on an app, which I love. Note* I use GCI for internet because they're the only game in town. I have not been disappointed in the service I've received in the last year. With that said, the service they have for their cellphones was terrible last time I tried. I would not recommend for a cellular plan. read more

I'd like to give them zero stars but i don't think you can. I got a call from them telling me i could upgrade my cell, 3 months early, for free. No cost whatsoever, not for the phone, or early termination of contract. I go in, i choose my new phone, sign up for new contract, all looks wonderful and well with the world, and i am looking forward to going home and playing with my new phone. I get home. Email telling me i was close to going over my internet usage, which was baffling, (because i check it every night after binge watching on Amazon Prime, just to ensure i don't go over) and i had almost 30gb left for the next 7 days, when the charging period would reset. But when i check it, and see they have removed 25gb from my package! This was not mentioned to me anywhere, not in store, not on the phone, not on the new contract, so i call them, furious to have been deceived, only to be told they won't give it back. We've been with GCI for 13 years, pay a lot of money, for what amounts to a pretty mediocre package, and keep getting a little more bandwidth shaved off every time i upgrade my phone. It's very sneaky and deceitful, and so i took that new phone back, got my old one reactivated, and will shop around for the best deal. 3 months contract left to shop for new ISP. No problem. Someone somewhere will pay this girl's ETF. And give me unlimited internet. GCI there are not words to describe your deceitful, sneaky, greedy, and disloyal treatment of loyal customers. read more

Having been given no choice but to be tortured yet once again to visit this place, we arrived yesterday at 6-ish p.m., in anticipation of the closing hour at 8 p.m. Thinking that should be plenty of time to get phone replacements due to another one of GCI's worthless forced upgrades. The store was pretty much empty. We soon discovered that the skeleton crew was moving at their usual snail pace, and when we were finally able to see someone, by the name of Daniel, the poor guy got a taste of my wrath. I swear I become a different person whenever I have to deal with GCI. The fur is rubbed the wrong way, and the devil horns come out. Even my husband was most likely wondering where his wife had gone to. Apparently, off the reservation! Daniel did take the time to transfer all of our photos from the old phones to the new. (Extra star for that.) He didn't have to do that, and the help was appreciated, since we had no clue how to do such a thing. However, this store did not carry protective cases for our new phones, (why?) and I had to pay 80 bucks for two screen protectors, one of which was put on crooked, and the other left with a bubble at eye range. We are still looking for a solution to the constant buffering with our new TV. Daniel suggested we may try purchasing a replacement router for our computers, which may help speed up the downstreaming. But he wasn't sure, and when closing time came around, we had pretty much exhausted the dude, and he couldn't wait to get us out of there. When we finally were able to get back home, after not having a thing to eat all day, we both wound up spending another hour establishing our Samsung accounts into our phones. Not an easy feat, especially after being told by Daniel that he had taken care of it. This was just one more painful experience for us both with GCI. It pretty much ruined our evening, to say the least. You can depend on GCI for disappointments, time and time again. And it still continues. read more

This store is absolute GARBAGE!! I got GCI back in Aug 2020 until Jan of 2022 and have had over charges, slow internet and crappy customer service. It takes hours to get a hold of someone and when you do they "don't know how to help but can offer others to assist" and hang up on you. I canceled my internet service and turned in my equipment and they still charged me $120 fee for the equipment and claimed it was turned in late when I have evidence proving otherwise. Overall I highly recommend if you can avoid getting GCI please do.. it'll save you so much time, stress and money. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow!! Buyer Beware!! If you try to get out of the Yukon TV contract, GCI does not make it easy!! You must do it within 14 days which I did but they will try to charge you a restocking fee for the device and to waive that you need a manager and surprise!! There are no managers available!! After being treated so incredibly rudely by a young man at one location I drove to another location where I did finally get to speak to a manager. They apologized for the rudeness and finally after 2 hours of the worst customer service experience I am out of my contract!! I'm just sharing this here to hopefully help others avoid having to deal with getting out of a contract with GCI!! BUYER BEWARE!!! read more

slow and rude and inconsiderate. today there are 8 just sitting around not helping. slow services all the time. never good quality of customer service. this company billed me from 2/2022--6/2022 when i noticed via invoice through regular mail for yukon and cellular services i did not have. infactvi reported this in the store at the same location i am today and was still charged and wasctold i couldn't upgrade services because of these outstanding charges. eventually they opened an investigation and during process of the investigation my services were constantly interrupted every 2wks because gci was demanding payment. this payment of 1300 for 2 phone lines and cabel an internet connection. the thruth is the only services i had was my cellular phone (1) not 2, and internet services. i didn't have the cable which had been switched over to yukon because i didn't qualify for it because of the outstanding balance on my account. i was then told that they put a 300 dollar credit to my account due to their mistakes..300 is what i had been paying every month on my bill so to just credit me a month was definitely injustifiable by me. in addition, i came into the store to make a final payment $530 with plans of upgrading to the iphone 14 pro but tttt my $530 payment was never recorded so i went home empty handed. 2months later i received a promotion to upgrade my cellular phone on gci..."free replacement phone" however the "free replacement phone " wasnt available. but they did find me a phone for 10 bucks a month and for that i am greatful... read more

Guess I've been pretty lucky every time I've gone in. I was pretty unhappy that my previous carrier got absorbed by GCI, but as far as service from this store and quickness of talking with a person I don't have much to complain about. I can understand how tiring it can be to wait for customer service though. In the span of 5 minutes of my being there 8 more people's names were added to the queue, so I just lucked out. Stay Away if You Can!!! Unfortunately, most people have no choice as they pretty much have a monopoly in Alaska. I signed up for nationwide coverage plan that I was told I would have coverage in the lower 48 area I was going to travel to for a few months. Not only did they not sign me up for nationwide but when I called Tech Support that I had no service they said there was "nothing they could do" which was ridiculous! Next thing I know, they're charging me an extra $30 in roaming fees because they never signed me up for nationwide coverage like I requested. I call customer service and they argue with me telling me "everything my fault" then tell me they're gonna call me back. They never do, so I call them and get on with someone else who tells me he's given me the credits back and fixed the bill. The bill never gets fixed, so I call in again, and the person tells me "Oh well that will be applied your next bill" so I'm thinking it will be a bill that's $30 lower right? No, they charged me $20 extra instead. So again I complain, and they say the exact same things "Oh it's all credited back....blah blah...on the next bill..." Finally my next bill is $7 cheaper.... So to recap, I was refused tech help in an area I was told they had coverage, after hours on the phone over 3 months, they end up charging me an extra $40 for services I never received, and then blamed the entire thing on me. read more

I closed my GCI accounts today - after 6+ years of having bundled TV, phone, internet, at a cost of over $240/month for 6 yrs. I carried my cable boxes, cable modem and remotes to the C street store in Anchorage, to return these. Despite it being a very simple transaction - turn in the equipment and end the relationship - the office inefficiencies made this very slow - I had to wait 35 min for 4 people to handle the prior 5 people ahead of me. As a result of this long delay, I was frustrated and late for my next appointment - so I was in a hurry and forgot to tell the GCI rep that I wanted to set up an announcement that I was closing my home phone, and announce my cell phone number for those who called my home phone but didn't know my cell number. I had planned to ask for this during closing the account, but was in a hurry and forgot. About 3 hrs later, in the afternoon of the same day, I remembered and called GCI to ask them to do this for me. They told me they could not (I say 'would' not). When I asked why, they said "we could have done it, but it has to be done at the time you close the account." I then asked why this is so - but no answer. I pointed out that all this could very easily be done, now, just the same as 3 hrs earlier. The GCI rep said, "we cannot, because the account is closed. You had to do it before you closed the account." Repeat - no reasons. I then asked what had to happen to make this announcement occur. She told me that I'd have to restart service to do this. I then said to re-start my phone service, so we could set up the "I closed this phone number and call my cell phone number" announcement, and then immediately close the phone number again. She said this could be done, but I'd have to have a serviceman come to my house (which I am selling) to start the service. Then she said this could not be done this week - but we'd have to schedule it a week from now (when i'll be gone from Anchorage). I told them to go ahead and have the service guy come out, and my neighbor would let him in the house, but that the service order would be to start the phone service, set up the forwarding announcement, and then immediately close the account - within the same service call. GCI said "fine, no problem." This kind of bureaucracy is what costs all GCI customers money. And the lack of concern for customer needs is also striking. They are willing to waste the time of the service technicians doing a stupid thing, which in turn causes others with a need for technicians to do something to have to wait. This is bad for everyone - and raises costs for all, for no purpose at all. I am so glad that I am leaving Anchorage, and can finally get rid of GCI. read more
