Gators Dockside used to be one of my favorite wing restaurants. Oh how the mighty have fallen! My last several experiences have been dry wings that have been over grilled and under sauced. Presentation and appearance of food is of zero concern here; they really do not seem to care. The portion of a basket of fries is comparable to what you would serve a child. The vibe is multi-tv sports bar with hit or miss service meaning you better know what you want because asking too many questions could lead to some abrupt unhelpful responses. Close to me and every time we come (we always eat at bar) beer is cold, food has been consistent and tasty. I've experienced nothing from recent bad reviews I've seen. Bar staff is always friendly, we get a good pour on drinks. I could see things getting crazy if they are super busy during peak meal hours. This is our go to for Saturday wings and beer. So, we went to Gators to avoid the overcooked, dry chicken wings at other wing joints. What did we get? Chicken wings that appeared freshly cooked on the outside but under the crust they were dry, old, cold and not fresh. I know that Gators is busy especially since moving to the new location but there's no excuse to re-fry wings for the sake of expediency. I would wait 30 minutes for freshly cooked wings. VERY disappointed in the mozzarella sticks and French fries which were also cold and appeared to have been cooked well in advance of serving. If you have a wing ding thing, Gators DS is the place for you. Their wings fly in from multiple direction, Breaded/Fried, Grilled and Naked Buffalo. Once you've picked the style, you pick your flavor from a choice of 15 sauces. Grilled with Caribbean Jerk, Hot Teriyaki and Traditional Hot are my faves. You order in denominational quantities of 10, 50 or 100. I also prefer two boners, or as they call them, flats over the small drums. The wings here are more tasty than most any other places about town. Never dry or tough. I've also made a meal on the Buffalo Shrimp, hand battered, lightly fried and tossed in wing sauce of my choice. Served with blue cheese dressing, it's a perfect meal if you add on some mashed potatoes. They offer a great selection of Appetizers, Burgers and Sandwiches, Soup and Salads and Entree Platters and a nice little gator menu. I've see a few people order ribs but no one in my party, so I can't testify. One big plus is the have New Castle on tap and that awards them one whole star. read more

I have to greet with some of the other reviews, this place is OK for a late night stop after the kids football game but there isn't any kind of quality dining going on here. If you except it for what it is, a bar with food, then it's actually pretty decent. I kids enjoy the nachos and they are always pretty standard. I tend to get chicken wings everywhere I go. Everything I have seen has been quite standard bar fair there is nothing exceptional, nothing particularly terrible. They suffer from the same problem that many restaurants suffer from and that is mediocre service because people just don't care. You hire a bunch of 20-year-olds and expect them to wear skimpy clothes and then think you're going to get quality service out of them, well it just doesn't work. The inside of the place is usually decently clean there's usually some crumbs on the floor but it is a bar. The Decour and everything is pretty standard there's nothing to complain about there's just nothing that stands out is being great. I also had a location on 103rd St. in Jacksonville but that one shut down probably for the same reasons that plague this one. NEWSFLASH--Don't hire girls who are going to dip into the back and snort Coke to make it through the day... Yes they try but they just don't have it however I will continue to go there at 11 o'clock at night on Fridays after my kids football games because they atmosphere makes up for the lack luster food. read more

Loved that they moved locations. Definitely a great asset to Oakleaf. Recently went with my husband and the staff were accommodating and friendly. Being a new building the restaurant was very spacious and clean. This place will definitely be apart of one of our little date nights. We came for wing night and the traditional wings were great. I loved the Cajun ranch wings. We had fries for our appetizer that was loaded and delicious! The fries were nice and hot and crispy. Definitely did not disappoint. Gator's Dockside is the ONLY 2am establishment with a full bar in Oakleaf. They know it too, because they price gouge like crazy. They recently raised the price of their more popular drink items. Having seen price gouging after being affected by Hurricane Andrew I have no respect for companies who practice such tactics. The place is very very bright, so don't go in there for ambiance. They have trivia on Thursdays if you're into that sort of thing. They also have a cable package that gets them the UFC fights. They have had a lot of fights there during UFC nights so there is now a uniformed officer in the building during fight nights. The food is what it is, bar food and mostly fried goods. I was very surprised and happy about this place. I've heard about this place my whole Highschool life and never went. But we were looking for a Sunday place to eat and heard this place was good. I was skeptical cause it's like judging a book by it's cover cause the outside could use a little more umph haha but when I walked in I was blown away. It was nice and open , clean and had a very dockside feel like you do most places like this. We're seated super quickly and our waitress came quickly. Not impressed. After being seated we waited about 10 minutes for our waitress to come get our drink order. When she finally came to get our food order, I ordered a cob salad. When the salad finally came (25 minute wait for two salads) came the chicken was very cold. This is a beautiful new building but the service still needs work. Alot of excuses come from the kitchen being backed up during a normal scheduled day. I came here with my girlfriend and her neice and nephew and waited over an hour and forty five minutes for food. Then the childs order of a hot dog had a hard crispy bun and when he picked it up it broke in half. We told the waitress about it and she promised us that she would bring out a fresh hot dog. When it came back the plate had a new hot dog and the same bun that had the ketchup scrapped off of it and the same broken shape. We told our waitress that it was the same bun and she denied it.
