Excellent - by far my favorite ice cream in the city. Everything is made with coconut milk, and is gluten free, so it's perfect for people who want sweet treats that are non-dairy and non-gluten. AND, their flavors are actually good. I find that often when one of those is substituted for, the other gets sacrificed or over-compensates and ends up not being very good. Although, naturally, without gluten some of the pastries are not as fluffy or buttery as they could be for the "regular" version. Most of their flavors are really good and you can get 2 samples before making a choice. There's some shaded outdoor seating, main seating, and a back indoor seating (somewhat echo-y), but it hasn't been super busy any time I've been there so there's enough space to not feel crowded.
What a gem to find a bakery that is gluten-free for my gluten intolerant friend :) It's also dairy-free since their ice cream is made with coconut milk. While it does make the texture less creamy than traditional milk, it didn't bother me. It's more frozen yogurt/custard? Like it was just a teeny bit grainy instead of smooth. I enjoyed it nonetheless. She ordered a coffee cake and I think the black magic flavor ice cream? I had the Thai tea and black sesame something flavors - I forgot the name :( I also ordered their hojicha matcha as well. I also wished I remembered the gentleman's name who helped us last week but he was super friendly and helpful! The inside was really cute too! It feels like airy/spacious boho with the furniture, large windows, and light fixtures in the seating area with these cute, muted mint green tiles for the wall behind the counters.
This review was meant to be for Gati Scoops on 4500 Duval. I added it as part of adding a new business. But somehow Yelp moved the review to the one on Holy. -------------------- We are so excited to have Gati here in Hyde Park. We are a big fan of the one on Holy but that's a bit out of the way for us. This one is much closer to us. For those who haven't hade Gati, all ice cream here is made with coconut milk. They have unique flavors. For example today I have tamarind candy. Pandan is another flavor I like. More common flavors: blueberry, Texas peach, mint chip. And many more!
At first glance on Yelp, it comes across as mostly as an ice cream parlor cafe but it's so much more! My friends invited me for brunch and it was my first time visiting here. It's a 100% Gluten-free menu so it was worry free to order for my friends who are intolerant. We tried 4 main menu items family style. They also clearly label if it's dairy free, vegan, vegetarian for everyone's dietary sensitivities/preference. There's seating in the main entrance, outdoor side patio and in a tucked away room down the restroom hallway, with more indoor seating. Great service and reasonable prices. Wish I had more for ice cream and pastries so that just gives me another reason to come back! Brunch spread items: Shrimp & grits: creamy and savory Maple peach pecan waffle: summer special the peaches were a perfect in season for summer Laksa: savory curry base with fish cake and shrimp - a Singaporean special Biscuits and mushroom gravy - my friends couldn't believe the fluffy biscuits were GF. Matcha latte - the coconut milk flavor really comes through Golden chai latte - love a turmeric latte. savory spice with a side of anti-inflammatory benefits
Chive pancakes, Memela (vegan), and ice cream The chive pancakes were crunchy. They tasted like burnt thick chips of seaweed almost. With the sauces of the memela they were great. The memela tasted. primary of beans. The sauces are what truly made it. Wouldn't order this again or call it delicious but it was savory. Ice cream was amazing! Never misses. The staff was super kind and friendly. Definitely great vibe in their outdoor patio.
Neo MADE the experience. Gati's ice cream and pastries are always top tier, literally best in Austin, but their customer service sometimes leaves you wanting. But not Neo. His energy and helpful attitude was phenomenal. We were very impressed with his knowledge of all the items available to purchase and his recommendations. My friend and I went in there with our kids (10 kids!) and he handled the chaos seamlessly. The way he represented Gati is definitely manager status. - The owner needs to hold onto him.
I don't often go here, but I love their ice cream and they have the best dairy-free options in town! I love their flavors and how everything g isn't too sweet. The price point is a little higher than usual but I can justify it by good quality ice cream and unique flavors. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, always offer to try different flavors too! There are a few spots to sit at, but in my experience it's never too busy (maybe because I always go in the evening when I do).
As the old adage goes, "Life's short...eat dessert first." Well, that is exactly what we did. My hubby and I have been doing the Daniel fast for a week. So we decided to have an ice cream treat made with coconut milk. Gati...for the save! Gati specializes in coconut milk-based ice cream with robust, globally inspired flavors. There is no dairy...fully a plant-based delight. All their ice creams are coconut milk-based. After a few samples, we decided on Mango Lime and Golden Milk. Both were delicious! We were milk-based ice cream neophytes. You might ask what is the difference between cow's milk and coconut milk ice cream. There was not a significant difference to me. The only notable difference is that coconut milk-based ice cream does not have an oily feel to its ice cream. It was nice treat. In fact, we will likely return even after our Daniel's fast. Gati is a small establishment with a small outdoor patio. Overall laid-back environment....
Gati is an absolute dream, especially if you're gluten-free or just love incredible food. Their gluten-free pastries are next level. You would never guess they're gluten-free everything is soft, flavorful, and perfectly textured. The cinnamon rolls in particular are unforgettable, warm, gooey, and just the right amount of sweet. Truly some of the best I've ever had. And the Thai dishes? An explosion of flavor. Every bite is vibrant, rich, and beautifully balanced. You can tell everything is made fresh with high-quality ingredients and a lot of care. To top it all off, the staff is so friendly and kind. The whole space feels welcoming and full of good energy, which makes the experience even better.
Woah, I had a dining experience at Launderette and the waitress said to check this place out after. I walked half a mile over to this cute spot with a friend and we ended up spending over $80 and I ain't even mad about it. First of all, even if you're not an ice cream fan (like me), TRY THE ICE CREAMS. I sampled a few and every single one was to live for. I ended up getting the oatmeal cream pie with chocolate chips on top. I was amazed at how many pints they had available to-go. It took everything out of my to not take any home. The cookie monster was incredible and all thai ice creams were delicious. They also have ice cream sandwiches to-go or to eat in store. The highlight, weirdly, was the Aztec Mocha. Perfectly poured, I had it hot and it blew me away. It had the most delicious notes of cinnamon and other spices. The design was perfect, I wish I didn't devour it and took a photo! My friend took over 12 pastries home and they all looked delicious. I asked her how they were and she said they didn't disappoint. As both of us are lactose intolerant, we were beyond satisfied. And this place treats their staff well by paying them a fair wage. Tips are optional as gratuity is already included in every purchase. This staff works their butts off and deserves every penny. Gati is my new favorite and I have actually added it to my All-Time Favorites list. I cannot wait to share this place with everyone I know and to visit again and again. Absolutely worth the hype!
Favorite ice cream spot in Austin! Love that it's coconut milk based. Great for those avoiding dairy. The ice cream is always so smooth in texture and I love that they have lots of unique flavors. My favorite is are Cookie Monster, Thai tea, horchata black sesame rice
I came back recently to try their new food menu! Not only do they have delicious vegan ice cream (made from coconut milk), they also have breakfast and lunch, with some dishes that are of SE Asian origin. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn they actually expanded from Thai Fresh, one of my favorite Thai restaurants. I got the laksa noodles. After ordering, I was confused about the utensils because I could not find the forks, but they gave me chopsticks when they delivered the dish to me. Laksa was sooo good and had the perfect amount of spice for me. Staff is friendly and if you want to sample the ice cream, you may pick two. There is limited parking but coming for Saturday lunch, I was able to find a spot. It was the perfect weather to be seated outside but there are some flies. Also bought their Thai Basil ice cream to take home! Yum!
A cute ice cream/bakery/cafe tucked behind a convenience store. The place specializes in making goods gluten-free, vegan, and other food allergy/intolerances. And one can also get regular milk in their latte as well. Having a minor lactose intolerance, I was looking forward to the ice cream and tasted a few before settling on the cookie monster and blueberry. For some reason, the more I ate the blueberry, the more I felt something was off with the flavor. However, both being coconut based was a godsend. Also, had a great latte! I would definitely visit again, if not to try more flavors like the Thai tea or the pandan.
In LOVE with Gati - I'm patiently waiting for the day they sell their pints in store across the world :). I would fly to Austin from CA just for this ice cream! The flavors are so FUN and creative. I got the mint chip and the Thai basil which were incredibly refreshing. The coconut milk base is not overpowering at all! It makes the ice cream lighter and cleaner-tasting. The shop is the cutest and so colorful and vibrant. The GF and vegan desserts looked decadent and sweet! read more
I went here quite some time ago and honestly haven't thought about it since. They have a novel affogato flight option but I just didn't find the flavors that strong. My favorite was the blueberry with the espresso, but the other two weren't very distinguishable. The place itself is super bright and fresh and the service was great! Prices were a little high for the pastries but other than that it was a cute experience but not one that I would repeat. This is a really great spot for vegan and gluten-free!! My rating is geared towards the shop being fully GF and vegan and rating within this category. Came on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't busy but there seemed to be a pretty steady trickle of people in and out. Small parking lot but neither my friend nor I had a problem getting a spot. The guy working was friendly and asked if we wanted samples. Everything I tried was good but ended up getting two scoops, one of the cookie dough and one of the Cookie Monster. My friend got Thai coffee and pandan. I had never tried the pandan, so she let me try a bite of hers and it was soooo good. As much as I loved my flavors, this was something new. The lavender caramel was one of the samples and was also really good. Will definitely be back! read more
Nice space with side patio. Private parking in the front & back. Neighborhood has mature trees so the patio stays cooler, temperature-wise. Flavors of ice cream are abundant to pick from and I love the original and creativity that Gati has. We've never had a terrible flavor here, I feel safe to say that whatever you pick will be delish. Their coffee choices is pretty vast too. I love their beet cocoa and their drink with turmeric in it. I forgot what it's called. The staff is friendly too! Super cute little restaurant - could definitely see a bunch of cute pictures being taken here. Also love how everything is vegan. I got the pandan leaf and lavender caramel. The pandan leaf was fresh and the lavender was not overwhelmingly floral. Also I was surprised because they were not super coconut-y tasting which is what normal vegan ice cream is to me. I did think both ice creams were really sweet. Also an icey quality to the ice cream. Kind of expensive ice cream too. read more
The good: There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating here. The outdoor patio area is very cute with umbrellas and colorful chairs as well as a communal bench and table. They also have a small indoor seating area. The space is modern, cute and trendy. I liked the letter board, airy and bright space and soft, girly colors. A lot of the ice creams include Asian-inspired flavors like pandan, Thai tea, Thai coffee or black sesame. I tried the Thai tea, black sesame horchata and Thai basil. The ice creams are all coconut ice cream (dairy free, vegan). The exterior of the shop is also adorable with a subtle and small ice cream symbol and colorful tiles. The bad: The coconut base makes every ice cream taste like coconut-flavored ice cream and the texture is a little bit grittier than I'd like. Overall, the flavor of coconut based ice creams doesn't compare to regular ice cream but it's a great alter ride for those who have diet restrictions. The interesting: They also have a full coffee menu and a lot of pastries on display to choose from. read more

Gati is no longer operating out of a food truck and has their own brick and mortar. The design of their store is clean, simple, and modern. They serve dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream and baked goods. They use coconut milk as the base for all of their ice creams, and you will taste a hint of coconut. They had 16 flavors of ice creams available, and it wasn't busy around 3:30pm on a Tuesday, and I tried: [https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=E75zUFy-d_K-i20qxKNIBg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg] -Pandan Leaf & Lemongrass Ginger (Single/$4.50): The pandan leaf was super aromatic, and will likely overpower any other flavor that you eat it with. I really liked it, but would recommend you eat this flavor second (if you get more than one flavor). The lemongrass ginger was more mild in flavor, but you could taste both the lemongrass and ginger. I'm not a big fan of savory ice creams, but this was made well. -Thai Coffee & Pandan Leaf (Single/$4.50): Their Thai coffee was really good, but strong! I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, and couldn't sleep until LATE after eating this later in the afternoon. However, I liked the flavor, and would recommend it for coffee lovers. I would also recommend the pandan leaf. Their staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available (their outdoor patio area is super cute). There was also plenty of parking available in the small lot they share with another business. read more
We had the affogato flight and it was SO GOOD! We chose the horchata, pandan and Thai tea flavors. I couldn't believe that they were all vegan! We got the decaf version. The place has a lot of vegan and gluten free pastries as well. I would definitely come again to try the pastries since I didn't get to try it this time. They have a cute indoor area with A/C. You can also bring your dog and sit outside which is what we did, but dont forget to wear some bug spray because depending on the season there may be mosquitos. read more

I love the idea of vegan icecream but I think the strong coconut flavor really overpowered the unique flavors of the icecream. The coconut base was very heavy. Their scoops are generous but 2 scoops for almost $10 is pretty hefty. The service was quick and they have a 2 sample max policy. We got the Thai Tea and the Lavender Caramel and the first few initial scoops were good but it became overwhelmingly coconut very quickly. Great option for those who are lactose intolerant though. read more

The best dairy free ice cream I've ever had. The flavors are so unique and delicious. The sticky rice and mango ice cream is unreal. Took my parents here and they said "the best and most memorable dessert" they've had in a loooong time, and I quite agree! read more

I've always struggled to enjoy coconut-based ice cream, considering I've never been able to NOT taste the overwhelming flavor of the coconut base. But, Gati had a flavor that didn't have that dilemma: S'mores. They likely have others but this the one I found from my one visit. Things you should know: I. PARKING Gati is a neighborhood, local shop with a petit front parking lot. We walked here and didn't see any cars in the spaces on a Saturday night, so we assume most of the customers walk here too. II. SERVICE They allow you to try 2 samples before ordering. There's a fridge stocked up with pints of local favorite and fresh gluten-free pastries on display to buy also. I ordered a scoop of ice cream and the amount they have was not modest at all ~ massive quantity. III. QUALITY The flavors, here, and more unique than your average coconut-based ice creams. The owner does a fantastic job with making the texture creamy like milk and not icy like sorbet like others fail to do. We got an oatmeal cookie. It wasn't gooey like I was hoping and crispy, but the flavors were good. IV. CAPACITY there was a small line for a weekend night. It moves quickly. read more

I've been wanting to try Gati for awhile and I'm glad I did! I stopped in today for ice cream (but the other treats look so good, so I'll be back!). Cute little interior space with a few seats, and a small patio. I grabbed one sample and went with the s'mores ice cream. So freakin good. I grabbed a season pint to go as well. Such a cute little store on Holly that reminds me of this traditional coastal ice cream stores but with a fresh modern finish. They're following precautions for Covid and only allowing one customer in as well as offering contactless payment. The variety of brownie-type bars was great and the one I tried - the magic bar - was phenomenal! It was rich, fresh, moist, flavorful and decadent. For $5 a piece, easily dessert for 2 (days or people, not bites). Gluten-free AND vegan AND delicious - worth my long drive to get to it! read more

Ive been to Gati a couple of times now and every time im impressed. As someone who is gluten-free and dairy-free, this place is heaven. Gati is completely vegan and mostly gluten free, and they are also a coffee shop! The ice cream flavors rotate seasonally and they have over 30 flavors! They also sell by the pint if you couldnt get enough. I've enjoyed everything ive had so far except the lemon pound cake, that was kind of dry. My favorites are the cookie monster ice cream and the glazed donuts. Gati is also a no-tip, fair-wage policy establishment which means all prices you pay reflect living wages for the employees. Additionally, everything they serve is compostable. Overall, Gati is a wonderful, environmentally friendly and ethical business that is a one stop shop for your sweet tooth and caffeine needs, even if you're not vegan or gluten free. I wish I could give Gati a great review, but there are so many deficiencies I just can't see why I would. To begin with, they've created a line of beautiful, and interesting vegan ice cream-but you can't sample any of it. There are no samples allowed at the scoop station, and because the flavors are unusual, I simply didn't want to try any. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big ice cream fan, but there are many places to buy ice cream where I can try before I buy. Next, the bakery section. I don't profess to be an elegant baker, but I do know what a cinnamon roll should be. Their cinnamon roll had no fluff at all. All I tasted was tough dough, with minimum cinnamon roll flavor. I also purchased the strawberry crumble bar that you can see in the pictures. This isn't a crumble bar, because the base of it is more like a bakery sand. I found it very misleading, and unsatisfactory. The one item I did try that I liked was the mushroom steamer (milk.) But honestly, the mushroom elixir is made with a prepackaged mushroom recipe from another company. Gati, there's a lot of work to do here. I will be spending my money elsewhere. And speaking of spending money, NO CASH accepted. I am giving Gati three stars for trying. If the menu hadn't been so inventive; the staff so sweet; the interior is so cute, I would have given them a one-star. I came for the food! read more

I love ice cream that doesn't give you the heavy feeling after you've had 4 scoops.... Don't get me wrong who doesn't love a pint of ice cream from the store? Hahah First time trying this place and it was good! My number one will always be Sweet Rituals but the Thai Tea and Thai Coffee were pretty amazing at Gati! I would definitely go back to eat the Thai Coffee again! read more
Right off the bat I gotta tell you, Gati has the BEST ice cream I've ever had. Hopefully this makes sense- the flavors are bold, true to the real flavor, while still being delicate. I got the Pandan, Thai Coffee, and Blueberry because I couldn't make up my mind. Goooood griiiiiief. Every single one was absolutely delicious- there isn't anything artificial tasting about the flavors. The girl behind the counter was so sweet and upbeat- greeting everyone with enthusiasm and a smile. I had read that Gati was dedicated gluten-free, and she assured me that I could order anything- apparently the owner has Celiac as well. On top of the delicious and unique flavors they offer, there are soooo many baked goods available, all gluten-free and many vegan options as well. I got a piece of coffee crumble cake to go and GOODNIGHT that shit hit. The inside is pretty small, and it's a laid back vibe if you can grab a seat. I love Gati.
