Woah, I had a dining experience at Launderette and the waitress said to check this place out after. I walked half a mile over to this cute spot with a friend and we ended up spending over $80 and I ain't even mad about it. First of all, even if you're not an ice cream fan (like me), TRY THE ICE CREAMS. I sampled a few and every single one was to live for. I ended up getting the oatmeal cream pie with chocolate chips on top. I was amazed at how many pints they had available to-go. It took everything out of my to not take any home. The cookie monster was incredible and all thai ice creams were delicious. They also have ice cream sandwiches to-go or to eat in store. The highlight, weirdly, was the Aztec Mocha. Perfectly poured, I had it hot and it blew me away. It had the most delicious notes of cinnamon and other spices. The design was perfect, I wish I didn't devour it and took a photo! My friend took over 12 pastries home and they all looked delicious. I asked her how they were and she said they didn't disappoint. As both of us are lactose intolerant, we were beyond satisfied. And this place treats their staff well by paying them a fair wage. Tips are optional as gratuity is already included in every purchase. This staff works their butts off and deserves every penny. Gati is my new favorite and I have actually added it to my All-Time Favorites list. I cannot wait to share this place with everyone I know and to visit again and again. Absolutely worth the hype!
As the old adage goes, "Life's short...eat dessert first." Well, that is exactly what we did. My hubby and I have been doing the Daniel fast for a week. So we decided to have an ice cream treat made with coconut milk. Gati...for the save! Gati specializes in coconut milk-based ice cream with robust, globally inspired flavors. There is no dairy...fully a plant-based delight. All their ice creams are coconut milk-based. After a few samples, we decided on Mango Lime and Golden Milk. Both were delicious! We were milk-based ice cream neophytes. You might ask what is the difference between cow's milk and coconut milk ice cream. There was not a significant difference to me. The only notable difference is that coconut milk-based ice cream does not have an oily feel to its ice cream. It was nice treat. In fact, we will likely return even after our Daniel's fast. Gati is a small establishment with a small outdoor patio. Overall laid-back environment....
I came back recently to try their new food menu! Not only do they have delicious vegan ice cream (made from coconut milk), they also have breakfast and lunch, with some dishes that are of SE Asian origin. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn they actually expanded from Thai Fresh, one of my favorite Thai restaurants. I got the laksa noodles. After ordering, I was confused about the utensils because I could not find the forks, but they gave me chopsticks when they delivered the dish to me. Laksa was sooo good and had the perfect amount of spice for me. Staff is friendly and if you want to sample the ice cream, you may pick two. There is limited parking but coming for Saturday lunch, I was able to find a spot. It was the perfect weather to be seated outside but there are some flies. Also bought their Thai Basil ice cream to take home! Yum!
During my stay near Holly Street in East Austin, I discovered Gati and wound up going there 4 or 5 times. It's a great little gem of a cafe that offers coffee drinks, other beverages, delicious food items, and even fantastic home made coconut milk ice cream. After a long walk in the late afternoon, i stopped in to try different ice cream flavors and there were all great - i guess i'm a traditionalist because I liked the mint chocolate chip the best, but the texas blueberry and texas peach were great, too. My guess is that any flavor you get a Gati will improve your life. I also tried the beet cocoa drink over ice and it was good, a bit gritty. On another morning, I got the shrimp & grits which was phenomenal, and the pan eggs with different kinds of sausage over egg white and with two hard boiled yolks. The breakfast salad was also good. Service was very personal. Gati has an outdoor area, counter area, and a room off to the right which I didn't know about until I was told about it and worked there for a few hours waiting for my next check-in time.
I had a lovely experience at Gati in Austin! First off, parking was surprisingly easy. They have a small dedicated lot in front of the building (about 8 spots), and my friend and I both managed to snag a space. If the lot is full, there's free neighborhood parking nearby, which is a great backup option. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for indoors and were grateful for the AC -- a much-needed break from the Texas heat! When you walk in, the display case with all the ice creams and pastries immediately catches your eye (and makes it very hard to stick to just ordering coffee and food!). You order at the counter, get a number, and then your food is brought out to you. There are vegetarian options, which is always nice to see. I had a latte and the pan eggs. Both were tasty, with the pan eggs served alongside in-house-made sourdough bread, which was a nice touch. The bread is gluten-free. My friend got a flat white and the waffle with a side of bacon and egg for extra protein. Everything was good -- solid flavors and well-prepared, though nothing that totally blew me away. Service was fast and attentive, and the overall vibe was peaceful, tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality and ambiance. Would definitely come back to try the pastries or ice cream next time!
I love their interior design -- clean, simple, and filled with natural light that makes me feel calm and present. Everything on the menu is gluten-free, according to the staff, which is a huge plus. My favorite dishes are the mushroom congee and shrimp & grits -- both are wonderfully comforting. I also tried their Laksa (my first time having it, unless instant noodles count). It's nicely shrimpy, and even my husband liked the soup when he tried a sip, though I still prefer their congee. Their beverages are great too. I've tried the turmeric ginger tonic, black sesame latte, hojicha matcha latte, and butterfly pea lemonade -- all were pretty good, but the turmeric tonic is my favorite. And their oat ice cream is the perfect finishing touch.
I came here the other day specifically for their dairy-free ice cream and was so impressed that I couldn't wait to come back to try their brunch and lunch menu. The ice cream was delicious. While there were only a few options without cane sugar (which I personally avoid), one of them was vanilla bean--a classic--and it absolutely delivered. Simple, creamy, and so satisfying. My family tried other flavors and loved theirs as well, so it was a win all around. I came back within the week to try the lunch menu, which is entirely gluten free, and I really appreciate how many options they offer for gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan diets. That said, many of the items still contained cane sugar, which limited my choices a bit. I ended up ordering the chicken salad on ciabatta, which did not contain cane sugar--and it was so good. Honestly, the ciabatta didn't even feel like gluten-free bread, which is saying a lot. Soft, flavorful, and a perfect match for the chicken salad. Overall, this is a great spot for people with dietary restrictions, especially gluten and dairy. I just wish there were a few more cane sugar-free options across the menu, because when they get it right, they really get it right.
Rating: 4.1/5 [dine in] They have a lot of unique flavors, and everything is 100% vegan. The texture isn't as creamy as regular ice cream, but the flavors and sweetness still come through. I liked that they had a self-serve water station too. They also sell pastries, ice cream sandwiches, and tubs you can take home. We went with the flower waffle cone, which comes with two big scoops of ice cream ($12.50). They also added a 15% fair wage fee which sounded high, but it came out to be $1.88. The cone itself was soft instead of crunchy, and the pressed flowers looked pretty even though they didn't taste like much. It still paired nicely with the ice cream and gave a contrasting texture. For flavors, the Cookie Monster looked fun with its bright blue color but wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. The Pandan was the sweetest of everything we tried but still good, just definitely needed water after. The Texas Peach had the perfect level of sweetness and peach flavor. The Thai Coffee had bold flavors but wasn't as strong as Vietnamese coffee. The Mint Chocolate Chip didn't hit right though; my husband said it tasted weird.
10/10. This gelato was everything! It was soft but not runny!! Or sticky!! I prefer cookie dough, cookies and cream, pistachio flavors and although they didn't have cookie dough when I visited (they usually do was what the worker told me) the cookie monster and chocolate tasted really good. Chocolate was packed with powerful punch but not bitter. The cookie monster honestly tasted like cookie dough/cookies. Also the workers are so sweet! They are patient whilst you try flavors and walk you through what you should order based on your taste preferences. Ambiance was so relaxed, I went around nine and there were three pairs of people each having their own conversations. Definitely recommend Also, the gelato is all gluten free and they have pastries including brownies and protein bars plus a cute water station. They have a lot of things, haha
We had the affogato flight and it was SO GOOD! We chose the horchata, pandan and Thai tea flavors. I couldn't believe that they were all vegan! We got the decaf version. The place has a lot of vegan and gluten free pastries as well. I would definitely come again to try the pastries since I didn't get to try it this time. They have a cute indoor area with A/C. You can also bring your dog and sit outside which is what we did, but dont forget to wear some bug spray because depending on the season there may be mosquitos. read more
The good: There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating here. The outdoor patio area is very cute with umbrellas and colorful chairs as well as a communal bench and table. They also have a small indoor seating area. The space is modern, cute and trendy. I liked the letter board, airy and bright space and soft, girly colors. A lot of the ice creams include Asian-inspired flavors like pandan, Thai tea, Thai coffee or black sesame. I tried the Thai tea, black sesame horchata and Thai basil. The ice creams are all coconut ice cream (dairy free, vegan). The exterior of the shop is also adorable with a subtle and small ice cream symbol and colorful tiles. The bad: The coconut base makes every ice cream taste like coconut-flavored ice cream and the texture is a little bit grittier than I'd like. Overall, the flavor of coconut based ice creams doesn't compare to regular ice cream but it's a great alter ride for those who have diet restrictions. I love the idea of vegan icecream but I think the strong coconut flavor really overpowered the unique flavors of the icecream. The coconut base was very heavy. Their scoops are generous but 2 scoops for almost $10 is pretty hefty. The service was quick and they have a 2 sample max policy. We got the Thai Tea and the Lavender Caramel and the first few initial scoops were good but it became overwhelmingly coconut very quickly. Great option for those who are lactose intolerant though. read more
Gati is no longer operating out of a food truck and has their own brick and mortar. The design of their store is clean, simple, and modern. They serve dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream and baked goods. They use coconut milk as the base for all of their ice creams, and you will taste a hint of coconut. I really liked it, but would recommend you eat this flavor second (if you get more than one flavor). The lemongrass ginger was more mild in flavor, but you could taste both the lemongrass and ginger. I'm not a big fan of savory ice creams, but this was made well. -Thai Coffee & Pandan Leaf (Single/$4.50): Their Thai coffee was really good, but strong! I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine, and couldn't sleep until LATE after eating this later in the afternoon. However, I liked the flavor, and would recommend it for coffee lovers. I would also recommend the pandan leaf. Their staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available (their outdoor patio area is super cute). The best dairy free ice cream I've ever had. The flavors are so unique and delicious. The sticky rice and mango ice cream is unreal. Took my parents here and they said "the best and most memorable dessert" they've had in a loooong time, and I quite agree! read more

I've been wanting to try Gati for awhile and I'm glad I did! I stopped in today for ice cream (but the other treats look so good, so I'll be back!). Cute little interior space with a few seats, and a small patio. I grabbed one sample and went with the s'mores ice cream. So freakin good. I grabbed a season pint to go as well. I've always struggled to enjoy coconut-based ice cream, considering I've never been able to NOT taste the overwhelming flavor of the coconut base. But, Gati had a flavor that didn't have that dilemma: S'mores. They likely have others but this the one I found from my one visit. Things you should know: I. PARKING Gati is a neighborhood, local shop with a petit front parking lot. We walked here and didn't see any cars in the spaces on a Saturday night, so we assume most of the customers walk here too. II. SERVICE They allow you to try 2 samples before ordering. There's a fridge stocked up with pints of local favorite and fresh gluten-free pastries on display to buy also. I ordered a scoop of ice cream and the amount they have was not modest at all ~ massive quantity. III. QUALITY The flavors, here, and more unique than your average coconut-based ice creams. The owner does a fantastic job with making the texture creamy like milk and not icy like sorbet like others fail to do. We got an oatmeal cookie. It wasn't gooey like I was hoping and crispy, but the flavors were good. IV. CAPACITY there was a small line for a weekend night. It moves quickly. read more

Such a cute little store on Holly that reminds me of this traditional coastal ice cream stores but with a fresh modern finish. They're following precautions for Covid and only allowing one customer in as well as offering contactless payment. The variety of brownie-type bars was great and the one I tried - the magic bar - was phenomenal! It was rich, fresh, moist, flavorful and decadent. For $5 a piece, easily dessert for 2 (days or people, not bites). Gluten-free AND vegan AND delicious - worth my long drive to get to it! read more

Ive been to Gati a couple of times now and every time im impressed. As someone who is gluten-free and dairy-free, this place is heaven. Gati is completely vegan and mostly gluten free, and they are also a coffee shop! The ice cream flavors rotate seasonally and they have over 30 flavors! They also sell by the pint if you couldnt get enough. I've enjoyed everything ive had so far except the lemon pound cake, that was kind of dry. My favorites are the cookie monster ice cream and the glazed donuts. Gati is also a no-tip, fair-wage policy establishment which means all prices you pay reflect living wages for the employees. Additionally, everything they serve is compostable. Overall, Gati is a wonderful, environmentally friendly and ethical business that is a one stop shop for your sweet tooth and caffeine needs, even if you're not vegan or gluten free. I wish I could give Gati a great review, but there are so many deficiencies I just can't see why I would. To begin with, they've created a line of beautiful, and interesting vegan ice cream-but you can't sample any of it. There are no samples allowed at the scoop station, and because the flavors are unusual, I simply didn't want to try any. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big ice cream fan, but there are many places to buy ice cream where I can try before I buy. Next, the bakery section. I don't profess to be an elegant baker, but I do know what a cinnamon roll should be. Their cinnamon roll had no fluff at all. All I tasted was tough dough, with minimum cinnamon roll flavor. I also purchased the strawberry crumble bar that you can see in the pictures. This isn't a crumble bar, because the base of it is more like a bakery sand. I found it very misleading, and unsatisfactory. The one item I did try that I liked was the mushroom steamer (milk.) But honestly, the mushroom elixir is made with a prepackaged mushroom recipe from another company. Gati, there's a lot of work to do here. I will be spending my money elsewhere. And speaking of spending money, NO CASH accepted. I am giving Gati three stars for trying. If the menu hadn't been so inventive; the staff so sweet; the interior is so cute, I would have given them a one-star. I came for the food! read more

Right off the bat I gotta tell you, Gati has the BEST ice cream I've ever had. Hopefully this makes sense- the flavors are bold, true to the real flavor, while still being delicate. I got the Pandan, Thai Coffee, and Blueberry because I couldn't make up my mind. Goooood griiiiiief. Every single one was absolutely delicious- there isn't anything artificial tasting about the flavors. The girl behind the counter was so sweet and upbeat- greeting everyone with enthusiasm and a smile. I had read that Gati was dedicated gluten-free, and she assured me that I could order anything- apparently the owner has Celiac as well. On top of the delicious and unique flavors they offer, there are soooo many baked goods available, all gluten-free and many vegan options as well. I got a piece of coffee crumble cake to go and GOODNIGHT that shit hit. The inside is pretty small, and it's a laid back vibe if you can grab a seat. I love Gati. I love ice cream that doesn't give you the heavy feeling after you've had 4 scoops.... Don't get me wrong who doesn't love a pint of ice cream from the store? Hahah First time trying this place and it was good! My number one will always be Sweet Rituals but the Thai Tea and Thai Coffee were pretty amazing at Gati! I would definitely go back to eat the Thai Coffee again! read more

I've been here 5-6 times the past couple weeks but ITS THAT GOOD. Their dairy-free ice cream has a special place in my heart. Top faves: chocolate, rocky road, and Cookie Monster. Employees are cool and location stays clean! Scoops are a great size for the price read more

I'm honestly surprised that this place doesn't have more Yelp reviews since it always has a steady flow of people and it's sooo good I went there three times in a week. I've really enjoyed all the flavors but my favorites ranked: 1. Thai basil 2. Cucumber mint 3. Lavender caramel 4. Golden milk 5. Pandan (I think the pandan fragrance could be stronger) The ice cream was creamy but not too sweet which is what I really appreciate. Also, the GF/DF cone is freaking amazing!! I always love a good light dessert. The desserts are super good too - had the pear crumble and chocolate muffin and it was all so good. Was looking for a vegan dessert place since moving from SF and THIS IS THE PLACE! read more
