Cute shop! I went looking for yarn. They don't have a huge selection, but what they do have is quality stuff... Cascade, Lornas Laces, etc. I wasn't looking for fabric, but what I did see was pretty and modern. They have a nice open space for knitting groups (and you can bring booze!) every other Thursday, so I will have to make it a point to go soon. read more

I took a crochet class here and showed up super early so I had time to browse. They had a really big selection of yarns and the employees were really friendly. They had a lot of fabrics as well. I went tonight for the first time with my son, who's decided to learn to sew. One of the staff took him under her wing and got him set up with all the basics a new seamstress (tailor?) would need, while I browsed the yarn - I'm an avid knitter. The yarn was gorgeous, the fabric selection was good, and the staff went over and above. I know he'll be back - it's within walking distance of his apartment. I'm on the North Shore so it isn't as easy for me, but now that I've seen the yarn selection, it will definitely be on my list the next time I need yarn for a new project. This place is like heaven for me. Immediately when you walk in, you're welcomed by someone. The owner is extremely nice and involved and genuinely interested in what you're working on. They have one of my favorite lines of fabric for sale and lots of beautiful and soft yarns for knitting. Great displays, books etc. I brought my sewing machine with me and the owner graciously cleared a spot for me at one of the sewing stations. This place is wonderful. The people here are super nice and always willing to help. The prices are good too. I came in with a very specific task, and all of the girls there helped me until completion; they really care about making sure you can do your project. They have sewing machines and pretty much everything you'd need to do a sewing project, and you can rent it all for $10 an hour---fantastic if you consider the price of sewing machines. I hadn't sewed anything in years, but one of the ladies there gave me an overview and helped me every time I got the machine stuck. I really appreciated their help, especially since I walked out of there with my project complete (I had something short in mind, and they let me hang out on their couches until I got it done). read more

Still in love. I took one of the basic skirt classes as well and had a great experience. I went in a few days before to buy fabric and such and the two employees could not have been more helpful. This place is a wonderland for knitters and folks into textiles. I had only a few minutes to spend in the store but all the rich colors and textures begged me to browse a while. The person helping me was friendly and warm. I picked up a couple embroidery hoops and some cool bags of scrap fabric named "David Bowie" and "Aretha" for $5 each. I squealed with joy when I got to open them and saw some Goodnight, Moon prints and a little chick print. I'm into fabrics, so I can't wait to return! I'd love to take a class! We visited February 15, 2016, in their new site. Large, great layout and well lit. Clean. Well organized for having just moved. Friendly, energetic staff seem pleased to have customers. There is both an enviable selection of high quality cotton fabrics and yarn that will appeal to younger hip people in tune with today's fashion senses. I found the petersham ribbons in many colors that I'd been looking for, and although it was costly, it was fairly priced for a high-end product. They had Bernina sewing machines set up. Clover quality notions. I hadn't visited the older shop, so cannot compare. read more

I have been going to Gather Here for a year now and love it! The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. They have the best selection of yarns and fabrics that I've seen in Cambridge. The only drawback is that the selection of upholstry fabrics is limited to none. There are tons of playful pattern cotton fabrics and felt but not a lot of wool (that I've seen) or upholstry. They have referred me to other local stores for fabrics which I find very helpful. read more

Gather Here is my favorite place to visit when I go to Boston, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was there 12/29 shopping for fabric. I appreciate the extensive amount of prints and solids. I came home with a number of Cloud 9 solids and some soft creamy prints that I would never have found anywhere else. The staff is always helpful and the shop has a lot of made items on display to inspire us. read more

The yarn selection is fabulous and though I do not sew, so I don't really use fabrics, their selection is enough to make me want to start. I love that they carry Shibui and have a good range of special to workhorse yarns. The Saturday brunches are really fun with a good range of people. I've checked out Gather Here's Etsy page and was excited to finally stop in and pick up a few fabrics. The shop is amazingly cute and was full of people talking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, everything! The staff was uber-friendly, inviting me back to work on a project with some of my own fabric and using their resources. I bought a yard of an awesome chevron pattern and am excited to find other projects to work on just to use their great patterns. This means I'll have a zillion pillows now. The shop itself has a great neighborhood vibe and connects people who want to work on any of their own projects. It was more a community center than a store. Great products, knowledgeable staff, and friendly people... it makes me want to go back.... tomorrow!! read more

I've always loved Gather Here for its awesome taste in designer fabrics. They stock the best modern fabrics around, saving me from waiting impatiently for fabrics to arrive via mail. Last night I took a knitting basics class with Carrie and now I can knit! I had always struggled with some of the basics of knitting, but thanks to her I can knit and purl like a champ :) They also have the best deal in town for a knitting beginners class -- I looked at a ton of places but Gather Here had the best price and they included a skein of yarn and knitting needles. The store has such a great vibe -- fun and modern! I will definitely go back to take other classes!! So glad to see a ton of good reviews because I want this place to stay around forever and ever. read more

I just relocated to the area and I was SO happy to find this lovely little fabric shop. The fabric selection is wonderful! I am not a knitter, but it looks like their yarn selection is also quite extensive. And it is worth it to pay a little more (than, say, Joann's) for better service and cuter patterns. Their classes also look fun (Crafts and Cocktails!) but stay away during the kids classes if you get annoyed easily by children (like me). read more

Great spot for the sewers, knitters, and general crafters in us all. My sister found out about this place a few years ago when they opened, and we would make a point to visit as much as possible when I came back to visit. I am more of a knitter, and with events like Crafter's Brunch and Pints N Purls, what's not to love? I also find myself buying fabric every time I go too, I love the prints available. I always thought a shared sewing space was exactly what a city needs for those who maybe aren't ready to take the plunge with their own machine. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. It's incredible the variety this place stocks, especially when you consider the space they're working with. They have most everything you need for a sewing or knitting project, including the classes to get you started. I wish they carried patterns, but I guess you can't have it all. The staff is very informative and are happy to offer guidance if you'd like, or will leave you to browse if that's what you prefer. I am a sewist, not a knitter, so I figured I'd throw in my two cents. So happy to have a fabric store in the neighborhood! Now I don't have to drive to East Cambridge when I need thread or some random notion. The prices here are pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality of the fabrics in stock (Japanese linens, Liberty). The space is extremely cozy, maybe a little small, but they have a kitchen and baked goods, which is a nice touch. I guess my only complaint is that things are a tiny bit hard to find. I found invisible zippers in a jar at the back of the store and it was hard to see the prices on the bolts. Some of the bolts had tags hanging on them...why not just list the price on the tag? The sewing classes seem geared to a more basic level, but I will definitely swing by to get notions or patterns by independent designers. All in all a great addition to the neighborhood! read more

Great experience. Took a sock class taught by Koren. She was super knowledgeable and patient. Met some nice ladies and learned some awesome new knitting techniques including magic cast on, short rows, closing gaps, and a new stretchy bind off. Their fabric selection is also a lot of fun. Another 5-star review, but there is a reason they have so many of them. I love it here. It's a comfy little shop filled with a well-curated collection of quality fabrics and yarns. The first time I came in, I was just teaching myself to sew and had no knitting/crochet skills, so I was a little overwhelmed and intimidated by all of the awesome. But everyone here is nice, knowledgeable and helpful and they will give you as much or as little assistance as you want. Products: The fabrics are mainly quilting weight cottons, although they do have a few other fabrics. The yarn selection is better than I've seen anywhere (even big box stores) and they are gorgeous, high quality, and many are local. Yes, the prices are a little higher than the big box stores, but that reflects the quality of the products. If I'm going to take the time to make something, I want to work with beautiful materials and love the finished product. They do have choices for various price ranges, so even if you want something less expensive to get started with, it's worth going. Classes: I have taken 4 crochet classes from Marissa, and she is a patient teacher and all-around lovely person. I started as an absolute beginner (I didn't know how to hold the hook) and in a very short time, I now feel comfortable following patterns and trying new stitches on my own. But I will continue to take classes because I always learn something and I just enjoy spending time in the comfortable environment, meeting other crafty types, and chatting with Marissa. I really like how the instructor is devoted to the class, not also working in the store, so you get personal attention and are able to learn a lot in the relatively short class period. A few days before the class, I went on the class web site to see if anyone else had registered. To my surprise I was the only one registered..well I thought for sure they would not have the class so I called and asked ...and yes! They had the class!!! Most places might have canceled...I know it's a small thing..but in the moment it made my evening. Marissa (sp?) gave the class.. She's great...we sat and talked about 19th century literature....ok ...maybe that's a bit "out there" but I loved it!!! I try to take a class a month. Good for the soul. read more

This store is a gem. They stock unique and beautiful fabrics, provide expert advice and also run a bunch of classes that are incredibly helpful for people who are new or self-taught. I love going there. It has such a wonderful atmosphere, and everyone who works there really loves what they do. As is the way with small businesses, some of their products are on the more expensive side, but they're also of excellent quality. Their store helps support the local economy, and local artists. They have a showcase in their window which changes every month. Honestly, going there is a lot more economical than shopping for something special on spoonflower, and without any of the issues that come with taking a risk on hobby designs. The people at Gather Here know their products, and they source them well. I think Gather Here is one of the best things about living in Cambridge. I've never seen a store like it. read more
