During a recent trip to Boston, I found my way to Zinnia, the perfect jewelry store. Anyone's unique style could be satisfied as there were so many different designers in stock and all the items were beautifully displayed. I found a stunning pair of earrings by Ellis Crawford and proudly wore them. On the flight home, as I unloaded my backpack, one of the earrings fell off. I desperately tried to find it. I waited until everyone was gone and got on on my hands and knees, searching with my phone's flashlight. No luck....I called the Zinnia store and asked if I could buy another pair of earrings, and they said YES! Heather and Sarah were so kind and provided excellent customer service. I love my earrings and will be sure to visit this store the next time I am in town. read more

The jewelry is cheap and the quality is even cheaper. Bought a ring and a choker necklace from them. The choker ripped in half after a few months and the pearl on the ring fell off in less than two weeks. I told them about the ring because I was obviously pretty upset about it and they did give me a new one for it but claimed this never happens. Of course the pearl falls off of the second ring again within the month! Don't waste your time with this place. It's very tempting to buy jewelry from them because it's a cute shop connected to a candy store, everything's nicely displayed, and the designs are quite nice, but I guarantee you whatever you buy will fall apart within a few months if not a few weeks. read more

I'm from Texas but I was visiting Boston with my best friends, and we stumbled upon Zinnia while on our way back from Mr. Bartley's. We found the cutest rings for around $20. There was something for everyone -- one of my friends loved turtles and found one she loved with a turtle, and I love anything nautical so of course I found a beautiful ring with an anchor on it. I was unsure about buying one because I only like to buy rings that will last for a really long time and these felt cheap, but the lady reassured us that they were sterling silver. So I ended up paying $23.36 total for my ring. This was last August. Since then the ring has tarnished, the shape of the band AND the shape of the anchor has warped. I withheld from writing a review until the ring completely broke a few days ago -- the band broke at the part where it connected the anchor. Mind you, I treat my rings pretty well, I don't even wash my hands or shower with them. This all didn't happen at once by the way -- it happened gradually, and the wear and tear began to show around a month or two after I purchased the ring. This ring *almost* lasted a year, whereas I bought an actual sterling silver ring from Zales for $50 and I've had it for 6 years. Maybe I was dumb for expecting actual sterling silver for 20 bucks, but hey employees of Zinnia, maybe don't lie about the quality of your jewelry. Maybe just tell the truth and say they're *coated* in silver...? Just a tip. read more

I like this store. They have a great selection of reasonably priced costume jewelry as well as a smaller selection of pieces in sterling silver, glass and semi-precious stones. I especially like how they display the jewelry here. Only the most expense items are in cases and the costume jewelry is displayed on racks at varying levels so that you can see everything easily and easily try things on. They also have a great sale table with lots of good deals. I might give Zinnia 5 stars if it were not for the kind of obnoxious sales people working there when I visited this weekend. They were standing together behind the sterling silver ring display and having a personal conversation. I worked in retail stores while I was in college and was always told never to conduct personal conversations while customers are in the store. You should either speak with the customers or stand quietly ready for them to ask you for help. These girls needed some of that advice. I felt like I was intruding when I asked them to ring up my purchase. read more

I like most of the products here because they are stylish and really affordable. The location is also nice. What I really don't like is how the sales people are clearly directed to stay positioned so they're able to watch each shopper to prevent theft. It's entirely possible that they're just there to help you if you need questions, but sale people that do this usually wander around or check in to find everything you need- they don't just stand there and stare. I totally get trying to prevent theft, but if you install hidden cameras and have someone discretely watch them or increase the prices by a small amount to compensate for possible theft it would do the same thing. TL;DR THIS PLACE IS A REAL JEWEL/GEM (no pun intended lol) I love popping by this shop and looking at the new jewelries that they have in stock. All the jewelries that I have tried from them have held up well. I paid $15-20 for each ring, which I believe are gold plated or gold filled. Either way, I wear the rings everyday (even in water), and they haven't lost their color yet. I've also tried one of their hoop earrings, which has also held up well. It's very easy to forget time in this small store, because they have so many pieces. From dainty pieces, chunky rings, and stone jewelry, they definitely have something for everyone. Zinnia is a boutique, so there's only 2 (maybe 3?) stores around the United States. Overall, if you're in the area, I would definitely recommend checking this lovely store out! read more

Very lovely store that I always pop into when in Harvard Square and I always leave with a happy purchase of earrings! All the earrings I have bought (about 5 pairs now) have maintained their quality since the 5-6 months I bought them, and for the low prices, it is a great deal! They have a great selection of earrings styles, from drop downs to studs, from simple to more decorative designs. I have been going to this lovely store for a few years now and I am never disappointed. It is a really cool set up when you walk in. There is the jewelry store and a candy store connected to it. The jewelry in Zinnia ranges in price so it's affordable, and there truly are some rare and gorgeous pieces in this store. The thing that makes this place a gem, is the people that work there. I'm not sure what the manager's name is but she is extremely knowledgeable on the products and just a delight. I am not a jewelery person. I had been looking for an everyday watch and when we walked by Zinnia my accessory-loving friend dove in before I knew what happened to her. My version of "accessories" consists of a hair elastic on my wrist but I had a mission! She was visiting and wanted to pick something up for her mom. Even though she had all intentions of returning from her trip with some touristy swag, she thought a little something nice for the madre would be good as well. Zinnia provided just that AND it was totally affordable. I ended up buying my mom a necklace because I walked in and immediately thought of her when I saw it. Major brownie points with the mom for $20 = fantastic investment. I also picked up the everyday watch I was looking for. I get compliments on my new, white summer watch constantly and resist the urge to tell people it was only $10. The staff was also incredibly friendly. I walked out with my watch on and through the day I was disappointed because it kept stopping. Before we left Harvard Square I stopped back in to exchange it. The lady removed the little plastic thing that makes the knob pop out (so the battery doesn't die in the store) and didn't even laugh at me. Zinnia has fashion-forward jewelry that is jaw-droppingly affordable: distinctive, eye-catching necklaces for $5 to $20. Make sure you have a few minutes when you come in--give yourself time to ooh and ahh over all the candy-colored baubles. Some of it is a bit artistically edgy, too. They keep up with the trends (e.g., the recent feather earring craze). You can get something here for your wild night with the girls or your next job interview/that big PowerPoint presentation. YO THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. From the outside, it looks like one of those fancy, boutique jewelry shops where a plain silver ring costs $40. But, it's actually full of incredibly affordable rings, necklaces, earrings and such. And it's QUALITY! I found sterling silver rings for less than $15 or even $10 and there's an entire section of them. There were super cute, artisan-made necklaces and bracelets for less than $20. I even saw real pearl earrings for $6! This place would be FANTASTIC to shop for a birthday present or just some bling for yourself. Zinnia is a fantasy-land of cheap jewelry. Most of the pieces tend towards an ultra-feminine, whimsical style with lots of beads, stones, and intricate metalwork. The colors are bright and the designs are bold. This is not the place for understated elegance but then again you usually need to pay an arm and a leg for that. Zinnia is a quaint little jewelry and clothing boutique in Harvard Square. They also sell other accessories such as hair clips and scarves. I've never bought any clothing from the back store, but from what I can tell, the products look like they are of the hand-sewn, organic cotton/hemp mix, flower child variety. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not my style (or lack thereof). What I love about this store is the unique and beautiful jewelry they sell in the front rooms. These items range from very cheap, cutesy trinkets, to handcrafted artisanal silver and gems. I've bought several pieces and all of them have gotten a lot of compliments. It's not that they are particularly flashy either. I like them because they are well executed, artfully designed, and just quirky enough to be eye-catching without going into Zooey-Deschanel-I'm-so-weird-but-only-in-a-cute-way-look-at-my-ginormous-doe-eyes territory. Interesting but subtle, is maybe what I'm trying to say. The layout of the store is organized and clean, and the staff is polite and available for assistance, but mostly hands-off, which I prefer when browsing. I don't find something I want to buy every time I go there, but when I do, I am always very satisfied with the purchase. It feels sort of like stepping into a beautiful candy shop, filled to the brim with all sorts of colours and shapes, and while you will find yourself drooling, these novelties are not for eating! But they are certainly for buying. The last time I was here, I was enchanted by this gorgeous costume piece: delicate gold chain necklace with a lobster clasp, intricate cluster of green stones webbed together with gold pieces (bib necklace)... and a whoppin' 13.99! I quickly snatched it up (the folks behind the counter are more than happy to 'hold' pieces for you as you browse, if it won't fit in those cute little baskets you pick up at the front of the store), and thought to myself, "What a sharp deal." It looks like it should be at least five times as much as I got it for. And it has still held up after a few wears... quality. There are tons of other great deals here: earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces. Murano glass, sea glass, 14K gold, sterling silver, aforementioned costume... whatever kind of jewelry you're looking for, they're bound to have it. Zinnia is truly a unique shopping experience. They have pieces in every style, for every budget. The sales staff are helpful when you need them, but not pushy when you don't. I've given countless gifts from here and they have all been well received. They are as accommodating when you spend $10 as they are when you spend $100 or more. For the very few times I've needed to exchange something they are understanding and still helpful. I have shopped at Zinnia for many years and the pieces hold up, especially the handmade stuff. I know some get annoyed when items break or discolor but when you buy costume jewelry do you really think it will last a lifetime? However, several necklaces I have bought from here lasted less than two weeks because of poor construction, or cheap materials. So really make sure what you puchase is quality. I like Zinnia's quite a bit, their store is bright and airy, they have interesting jewelry that's very reasonably priced, and their selection is always updating so every time you pop in there is something different on display. While they have some classy things that you can pop on for class or work, some of their things are a little cheap-looking (like adolescent jewelry reminiscent of Claire's accessories). This, however, is scattered about in the slightly crowded displays with otherwise cute jewelry and accessories. I've gotten earrings and a ring there, and have also seen cute bracelets, hair bands, and a good number of glass and medal pendants for wearing on a chain (?). The other thing was the service, which is friendly but also watches you like a hawk. I don't think I'm particularly suspicious looking, but I half expected them to ask me to turn out my pockets when I was leaving the store (disclaimer: I have never and never will shoplift). Maybe they're just bored (and hey, it's true they have a lot of people and a lot of small merchandise) but I was a little uncomfortable shopping there with so many eyes on me. Bottom line? I bought a beautiful sterling silver bracelet here for $6.99 and that wasn't the cheapest item in the shop. The store is filled with beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and hair accessories. Don't be mistaken, this place isn't like a Claire's or some other cheap chain. Everything looks handmade and impressive. The only cheap thing is the price.
