BUYER BEWARE: Do not buy anything from Sophie Hughes website, as the photos do no accurately represent what the jewelry looks like! Do not buy without going into the store and seeing the item in person. I made that mistake last week when I ordered a silver link bracelet from their sale items. The bracelet looked beautiful in photos and since I'm in Los Angeles I had no way of going to see the bracelet in Boston. So I bought based on the photos. Big mistake! The bracelet arrived and it is small, sad, and cheap-looking. It looks like a child's bracelet you might buy in a dime store. And it certainly looks terrible on a grown woman's wrist. It is incredibly lightweight - probably has about $3 worth of silver in it. I feel cheated and disappointed. I paid $200 - that was the sale price, the original price was $400 - can you believe it? I was dumb enough to buy this bracelet online without seeing it in person - OK, my mistake. I trusted Sophie, having bought an expensive gold bangle from her in the past. I thought the bracelet would be as pretty as the photo. Alas, Sophie refuses to stand behind her merchandise and will not let me exchange the bracelet for something else, something that might look good on a middle aged woman's wrist. I didn't ask for a refund - I asked for an exchange. So I'm out $200 - plus $20 postage - for a pathetic piece of jewelry I can't wear. Don't make the same mistake I did! I worked directly with Sophie to design a custom engagement ring for my fiancée and could not be more pleased with the process of working with her and how the final ring turned out. I knew that my fiancée wanted a ring that was more unique and creative than your average off-the-shelf ring from Kay, and I didn't want to bust the bank on a "custom" jeweler who essentially lets you choose the components (shank, head, and stone) then hurries you out the door. I also didn't want to buy a more unique ring from an established boutique jeweler elsewhere in the country that seemed overpriced and impersonal, limiting my design interaction to phone conversations with an assistant and minimal customization at best. Sophie was recommended to me by several other local small-scale, creative jewelers who didn't have experience with precious stones for wedding rings. From the outset she was open to discussing and sketching various nontraditional design possibilities with me, rather than limiting the conversation to her previously established designs. She then proceeded methodically with providing images for conversation, producing a mockup, providing samples of a wide range of options for all components, and discussing the nuances of each decision that was made along the way. The final price tag for the ring was incredibly affordable given the level of craft and attention to detail that Sophie provided. My fiancée is ecstatic about the character and quality of the ring, and we are eagerly planning to return to Sophie to make both of our wedding bands. I cannot imagine a wedding jeweler scenario more perfectly suited to our tastes and budget, and recommend her services wholeheartedly. read more

The service and quality of work here is just superb. The designs are all beautiful, elegant, and yet they offer many simple / modern designs. As soon as I saw their website, I believed this would be an excellent place from which to potentially purchase an engagement ring. I initially emailed the store to start a conversation about a custom designed engagement ring, and the staff emailed me back promptly, answered all of my questions satisfactorily, and often provided additional information that they thought would be helpful. I then made an appointment to have a consultation, and the staff, all of whom were super friendly, provided really good information about all of my options and gave me their full attention. I never felt rushed to make a decision or like they were just trying to make the biggest sale. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous engagement ring that was already on site, and the resizing took only a week. They also texted me when it was ready, which was super convenient. I also really like that the designer is very careful about where she acquires her stones, in an effort to be ethically responsible amidst what can often be very unethical stone mining practices. Additionally, as a woman proposing to another woman, I of course wanted to feel comfortable and give my business to a jeweler that respected my identity. To mirror many past reviews, working with Sophie and Kerry at Ore was a fantastic experience. I had known for some time that I wanted to have a ring created for my fiancé that was unique and reflected her taste and personality (in addition to something I was proud to purchase!). It was my great fortune to have Sophie recommended and loved the idea of using a local metalsmith who sources her metals and stones ethically. The entire process from our first meeting was accommodating, totally non judgmental, and open to design ideas. I had a specific price range I wanted to stay within but still wanted a ring that was truly unique. Kerry and Sophie took the time to walk through each element of the ring to create something beautiful while being transparent and up front about the impact in cost. I'm opinionated and critical with design decisions and it was easy to bounce ideas back and forth. I was quickly able to trust Sophie and her team to use their expertise to guide the design to it's beautiful result. Lastly, although I would not recommend it for your own sanity, I came to them with a very tight timeline and they delivered on the exact day requested so I can't thank them enough for coming through. The ring was exactly as mocked up and discussed, and my fiancé still swoons over her ring along with receiving many comments of how beautiful and unique it is! Our experience working with the ladies at Ore was absolutely unparalleled. My fiance bought my engagement ring there, and was exceptionally nervous about finding the right ring. The women at Ore were kind, helpful, did not make him feel pressured, and ultimately helped him choose an incredibly gorgeous and unique ring -- I couldn't have picked a better one myself! When it came time to buy our wedding bands we knew there was nowhere we would get better service OR a better product than Ore. We called to set up an appointment a few months after my fiance had bought my engagement ring and they actually remembered him by name, AND they remembered immediately over the phone what ring he had chosen for me! We came into the store for our appointment and they had so many beautiful options of wedding bands to choose from to compliment the unique shape of my ring, and lots of stunning options for my fiance to choose from as well. I honestly could not possibly be happier with Sophie! I was on a mission to create the perfect engagement ring for my now-fiancee, and Sophie exceeded my expectations. I basically showed Sophie a few rings that my girlfriend had pinned to her Pinterest board, gave a couple minor details to fill in the blanks (white vs. yellow gold, color/type of stone, ring size) and Sophie did the rest.
