This place feels more like a scam operation. We placed an order and paid in full in August. The owner came back more than 2 months later and said that the manufacturer passed on a 20% price increase that I would have to pay or they would refund my money. The sales people felt badly about the situation, but the owner would not consider absorbing any of the increase as "he was already losing money on it". I contacted the manufacturer who said that was not the case and referred me to another store out of state. That store charged me the same price I had originally paid. read more

As a former resident of Cambridge, used to l live around the corner from their showroom on Mass Ave (in what we used to call, the furniture ghetto). Although there was stiff competition from many competing retailers: Crate & Barrel (former Design Research space), Heartwood, Bowl and Board, The Home Design Store, Dynasty Furniture, later BoConcept, etc., (no DWR at that time), City Schemes consistently had the most practical, stylish, and accessible selections. Over the years, I had bought a desk, dining table, bed, and night tables, and was always fully satisfied with all aspects of the purchase. I've since moved to Brookline. The Italian Stefano Cavazzana platform bed I bought in 2008, somehow the metal frame warped, due probably to excess or uneven weight/stress. At first I despaired to be able to replace it, since I love the bed, so before doing any kind of internet search I contacted the Sales Dept at City Schemes...long story short about 2 months later and for $250 delivered and tipped, I have an exact replacement frame!! The store keeps immaculate records of all sales, I did have my original receipt as well, but in my mind it was a long shot this was ever going to work out, and that it did so, and so perfectly, is a commendation to this store and the way they stand behind their products. I would have HATED to through the hassle of needing a new bed, or searching for hours and hours to find the correct replacement platform if I even could have?? Thank you Joanne and everyone involved. Had a great experience this week, we bought a table and a sofa, the salesman in the store was very patient with us as we spent quite a bit of time looking around etc. What mostly stood out to me was a) the delivery crew was excellent, they had the furniture fully wrapped/protected and got this couch up a pretty narrow staircase in our 100 year old Charlestown home, and b) they took back a chair I bought and had taken home earlier - the delivery guys picked it up and handed me a check for the full amount, no questions asked. I'd definitely recommend and hope to buy from again. read more

I was referred to this store by another furniture store in Boston. He thought I might be able to find what I'm looking for here. I have no idea how I got to this place, if my gps had stopped working will driving there, I'm not sure how I would have found my way out. Unlike any other furniture store I've been to this store didn't have all sort of advertising to come in. I wasn't even sure if I'm allowed to go in, but I did. What I really liked about here was I was not ambushed by a sales person trying to furnish my house, or suggest some thing that was unheard of to me. But I would have liked a simple greeting from the four employees that I saw working there. Their furniture is contemporary, some too modern, but all together very high end. My husband and I brought a replacement cover for a split back couch because it's original cover is cracking. After waiting the 18 weeks, we just received an email saying there was something wrong with the vender AND it'll take another 16 weeks plus. That's it. Oh and a smilie face. That's absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. They also have been giving us a run around with how much it cost to have them put the cover on the couch, it's another $300. Do not give them your business. They are wishy washy and won't give you any straight answers. read more

I generally like their furniture which is modern with reasonable prices considering the quality. I have purchased from the Harvard Square and former Natick (?) locations as well. But on a recent trip to the Somerville store I inquired about a sofa I liked. I wanted to know if it came in a love seat. The salesperson came back to me a few minutes later and said NO it did not. Being the persistent person that I am, I was able to find out the maker and locate them on line. Oh why YES -the sofa did come in a loveseat size! Did the salesperson at City Schemes really bother to look up my request? Or were they just too lazy thinking I was not gonna buy anyway. In any case ... their loss of a sale. After shopping around for similar tables at many places (incl West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Cort, among others), I found that City Schemes had the widest selection of bar-height stuff, including tables and chairs, while other places focused on counter-height stuff. In addition to great and honest service from manager Igal, who will help you find the right pieces mindful of your budget and space, City Schemes has the best selection of modern, elegant, yet classic styles that that is so hard to find elsewhere at a decent price. City Schemes delivered the wrong sized couch after 16 weeks. Ruben Espitia verified that twice and didnt cooperate for any reasonable resolution. He asked for us to wait another 16 weeks to get the right couch. He offered no discount or keeping the wrong couch shipped till we get the replacement. Instead he was rather unprofessional and a bully. He firmly believes the client has to bear all costs and losses. read more

Citi Scemes warehouse is a great find for discounted price contemporary furniture. Also for mid century looking furniture which is all the rage. I recently purchase several thousand dollars worth of couches, chairs, tables, lamps and tables from the warehouse. Rachel, who works there, helped my Architect and I for hours and was a great help. From selection to delivery, seamless. Such an easy process from entering the store to delivery. Delivery guys were punctual and accommodating. I went back again this week to buy more! Communication about my orders were excellent. The rooms at my office I had to furnish are now Mad Men cool, I mean coolest. We recently moved into a new condo on Somerville and have been furniture shopping. We tried some of the furniture stores downtown but our HANDS DOWN favorite spot has been City Schemes. We haven't frequented any other furniture store since we discovered them, because not only do they stock gorgeous, high quality modern furniture, but they are transparent about their prices and they strive to provide the BEST customer service I've experienced from any furniture store. We had a minor issue with one of our deliveries and they were amazing (especially Igal!) with how rapidly and effectively they addressed our concern. Spent over $5k in furniture and worked with Rachel. She wasn't pushy and took the time to show us everything. She went over and beyond. Very smooth sale and delivery. 5 stars for her. I received a thank you note a week later from her, which was very thoughtful. One less star was for the manager (or owner?). After watching us choose several pieces, the manager came over and asked if my husband and I "hit the jackpot". He didn't think we could afford it? I was insulted. The thought of walking out crossed my mind. My husband whispered to ignore the comment since we really liked the pieces. Neither of us wanted to start all over searching for furniture again. I work in retail sales, and never assume that a potential customer won't be able to afford something. I know plenty of people who dress very casual, and yet, are closet millionaires. read more

After much research, we decided to visit 3 local and popular modern furniture stores in the Boston area. We ended our search at City Schemes in Somerville. They had the perfect sectional for us. Savannah assisted us and we found her to be most helpful and personable. The furniture was delivered on time and the delivery men were very careful and gave us the white glove treatment. Excellent! I was so impressed with their selection, laid back atmosphere and impecable service that I came back a week later and purchased my dining set. I came to pick up my table late in the day and was assisted by the owner (I'm guessing). He managed to complete my transaction with the same great service that I was given when I walked thru the door the first time. I did all the leg work for you...save your time and money. Needed some extra dining chairs for the holidays and waited until the last minute. Looked first at the clearance part of the showroom, and found some chairs I liked. Came back next day to buy them but, after looking once more at the extensive collection, ended up getting some much better, Italian made chairs (not on clearance) at a very good price. Though it was Christmas eve and they were closing early, they didn't pressure me at all, just gave me some helpful info when I asked for it. For several years, I have gone to City Schemes for many pieces of furniture and have never been disappointed. My latest purchase was a sofa, and this proved to be a bit tricky because of both living room space and entryway issues. City Schemes was very helpful in guiding me through various options until we found a sofa that would work in my space. In addition, it sent delivery people out to measure the entryway so that we could be certain the sofa would fit. In the end, it all worked out perfectly and was able to purchase the piece of furniture that was my first choice. Plus, delivery people were prompt and worked very quickly to assemble it. Again, I am happy to give City Schemes a 5 star rating. read more

All I can say is buyer beware at City Schemes. They offer great looking furniture but my experience was very disappointing. I purchased two leather sofas that were floor models They looked to be in great shape and admittedly, it was a great price. After a couple of months, both couches began to sag in places and became so uncomfortable that no one even wanted to sit on them. I contacted City Schemes and asked what we could do. Thus began months of being given the run around. The owner told me to get a quote from a local upholsterer to fix the problem, which I did. The quote was for $500. Then, the owner asked for more pics, and more stalling. When I finally got totally frustrated, I offered to split the cost, they declined. They kept offering me "in store" credits if I spent over $1000, to which I responded, "why would I buy more furntiure from you when you won't take care of this problem? ". You can't sit on these high end, all leather, beautiful looking couches without ending up on your back. I asked them to reconsider since I spent a good amount of money in their store and they refused. No attempt to make it right. read more

Over the last 5-6 years I've gone to City Schemes to look for items that offer me interesting design, delight and practical use. I've never been disappointed and always very pleased by the product and by the customer service they provide. Firstly, I love that they will just let me cruise their showroom which I find a necessity as I may go in thinking one thing but find after looking around am always inspired by what I see which makes re-think how I may want to approach things; two, their products I have purchased delight me visually, are of good quality, and hold up over time, and three, when I have needed information or a replacement part due to the much used that happens, even the littlest of things, they have been more than accommodating and have gone out of their way to locate what I need. Didn't do 5 stars only because I haven't ordered whole rooms and such or done deliveries with them (but got more than great help getting one item into my car) and thought it would be considered excessive.
